Didn't know that "slice of life from City-17" is what I needed today but here I am *needing more.*
Now we wait another 8 months for more slice of life from City-17 because animation this good takes too much time :(
"TheParryGod" has several similar "slice of life" animations set during specific sections of Half-Life 2 that are really good and immersive.
more a slice of death :v
I remember good old machinima series named "civil protection"
Which is basically a slice of life with two combine cops in city17
@@licro4792yeah the dude that approached the fence literally was dave while mike was in the back
This would honestly make for a great background screen for the main menu of one of the games.
Especially some sort of other Prequel game to Half Life 2 that isn't Alyx. Maybe it'd be a Non-VR title

When the Combine Soldiers walk in after shooting the zombies I like the detail how the first 2 and the Elite Combine look very relaxed even bored, judging by how they move, while the third Normal Combine Soldier seems to be more tense like he is some kind of rookie. Great attention to detail.
The issue tho is that in lore they're supposed to be modified to not feel those kind of emotions, especially Elites, I don't think they'd be able to be bored like that
@@kiLLaima Could take place before the modifications were as intense as they are in half life 2, maybe.
@@Swordsoulreaver enough with this new age shit made up by trash youtubers
just because they are emotionless doesn't mean they won't act like humans
soldiers have emotional responses and sense of fear that is overriden to make them perfect combat element - that was always the lore
they yell "shit" and get scared - those are emotions, every other crap like love or empathy is supressed or removed
without fear they wouldn't know when to retreat and good soldier is one that doesn't die stupidly
walking relaxed when threat level is low is extremely well within their behavior
"bored" is a proper reaction of soldiers especially elites because they are being sent to kill few zombies - something CP can't handle
from a war machine behavior perspective Civil Protection is worthless waste of logistics if they can't deal with necrotic infestation
also it's not like they are on time schedule they can walk slowly and bored all the time
slowly and bored also hels with watching their sectors for headcrabs hiding in places.

@@ryszakowy Man you should really use punctuation more in your sentences, that was annoying to read. And no, i'm not talking about any "new age shit", i'm just talking about how it's supposed to be even in lore, if you can't accept that it's your own problem. CPs are another thing since they're just humans in modified suits mostly, I'm mostly talking about Soldiers and Elites there as they are more than heavily modified, and I'll disagree with you, fear or no fear doesn't change when you know how to retreat or not, analyzing situations helps with that and fear is too much of a primal emotion to be considered even remotely acceptable in warfare. You're allowed to fear but let it take over you and you're a dead man, take it how I experienced it in close quarter battles, if you're the pointman and you fear moving forward, wasting the opportunity of surprise in the first place, you're as good as dead most of the time. Now obviously it doesn't include other situations but I believe their emotions are heavily restricted because if they weren't, the regime would have already ended. Sure they can be in different combat mind-states, like patrolling, standing on guard, stand-by or full on assault mode, but I do not believe they feel it as a normal human do. Anyway this is a useless argument, portraying it like the video does absolutely doesn't hurt and it's not a bad thing for cinematography, otherwise it'd be boring to some, but to me, it's pretty inaccurate at to how Elites would react, simply.
This is what I imagined Half Life 2 with HL:A graphics will be like, changes the atmosphere of the game to a more depressing post-apocalyptic world
now take these graphics and imagine HL2 beta with it, that's whole another level of depression

Amazing video...
The scariest thing here is how quickly the combine respond to the perimeter breach.
"Attention ground units: Mission failure will result in permanent off-world assignment." With incentives like that, I'd be sure to respond quickly too!
@@rwkerstetter that one's my favorite since it boils down to 'work or get yeeted to andromeda", but we cant forget the "Non-mechanical Reproduction Simulation" that is just Nut-Drugs

@@TommieTheCommie The combine are also the ones who make the zombies.
We need more Pre-HL2 stuff like this, like showing the actual hopelessness and dystopia of the combine occupied earth.
I think a (maybe co-op) game where you play as a combine squad one be cool. Not just seeing the despair first-hand but actually causing it.

Do you not know of the half life comic series?
if you havent already seen his stuff look up the parrygod. same style of videos and done to an amazingly high standard. just gives you that glimpse of the HL world.
I always loved the radio chatter of the combines and how the Tower responds to a situation.
Really made me wonder on how the 7 Hour War goes down.
Hell.
radio traffic would be extremely filled with either "requesting support" or basically injured soldiers begging for help
From what I gather, radio chatter wouldn't exist thanks to warp storms that tore most of Earth's surface. Did more damage to the human nations resistance than the alien invasion could ever hope to do.
@@rhyscallinan9948 The warp storm likely didn't actually do *that* much actual damage. From what we know, civilizations was still very much alive. Newspapers were being printed, diplomacy was still handled and global news was accessable.
What the warp storm actually did, was concentrate humanity in key locations (cities) which made the combine's job of wiping out entire nations much easier.
7 hour war, and 7 seconds till they dispatch and properly respond to an issue. I guess the 7 hour war lasted longer though than the Combine were hoping for if this is how quickly they deal with small things as an example.
This could even be considered a trailer for the game, just because of its quality alone. Astounding work, left me wondering what's to come in the future and how was this masterpiece made. 100/10, incredible work.
The fog doesn't look well on the zombies, it doesn't even seem like they're being covered by fog. And the fence that is next to the one the grenade blew looks intact instead of deformed as it should. There's still work to be done here.

Awesome, this kind of stuff makes me fall in love with the HL universe all over again just when I thought I was tired of it.
didnt expect to see you here stamina
@@neezynoryu2003 I'm always around the half life stuff brah
Dude, I love metrocops laughing at the most random and disturbing things, as if they aren't just regular civillians in cool outfits with tazing sticks and run of the mill bargain bin guns.
The life they live probably desensitised them to stuff like that, also under combine occupation you don’t really get a chance to laugh
Beautiful! Something I'd totally wish to see from Half Life universe.
I honestly think that white fog greatly enhances the already-depressing nature of City 17, reminds me a bit of the beta if it didn't go for such a (admittedly) generic "toxic" look. Good stuff!
Holy shit this is amazing. The atmosphere, plus the actions of the soldiers, first just the metropolice kind of fooling around, next the combine soldiers, more serious, more professional, bringing order back to this segment of the perimeter. Awesome animation.
if it wasn't for those 2 fooling around, there wouldn't need to send reinforcements.
@@chibisayori20 true
@@chibisayori20if it wasn't for those two the hole in the fence would've never been acknowledged
They were not expecting one to have a grenade. Scared them to call overwatch due to its damage
The Combine were quick to send a squadron of 3 Foot Soldiers led by 1 Elite.
God this takes me right back. The story, the enemies, and the sound design of this game were top tier.
Seems like it'd be a good menu background. Especially a version where the fence isn't blown up so it could maybe be made into a loop
I Like that the radio on the ground at 1:10 lights up when overwatch starts speaking
I think they should make a co-op game where you play as Combine Overwatch, and you gotta clear dangerous infested zones or outbreaks in progress.
Could make a great horror game too.
I mean with the fast zombies being very horrifyingly and the possibility of there being mutations to head crab zombies that the combine didn't make, it actually could work as a horror game.
That would be cool and all but Valve would add funni Hats so RGB colored combine soldering running around bunny hopping with crazy hats
entropy zero 2 is the closest of a half life 2 game like that there is
Imagine one of those ps1 graphics horror games but you play as a stranded civil protection (a bit like entropy zero) and you need to fight zombies in a Ravenholm type environment where even other humans (the resistance) want you dead
This keeps occasionally popping up on my fred and I watch it every time.
Now I just need to figure out how to make it my wallpaper.
This feels a lot like a background map. In another world where we actually got the full S2 SDK and could make our own proper Source 2 Half-Life mods, I could see this as being something bigger.
This is the only SFM I've seen that doesn't make my skin crawl of cringe. Usually SFM charcters always move in a overly soft and with goofy gestures. This is actually good, nice work.
Look up theparrygod. His animations are actually godlike
TheParryGod's animations blow this out of the water.
That's the power of motion capture

What do you expect from a high combine special forces unit?
Just gotta say that I really like this. I don't really see animations like this that just focus on the environment and atmosphere of a game. Great job!
The quality of the actual animations is crazy despite the small inconsistencies when it comes to how smooth they are - definitely keep up the excellent work 😊
I really liked it, it gives you a little bit of how the "life" is in areas thaht are being patroled and not just running and shooting like we see all the time in game
This is extremely well-made, i really love the still shot aspect of this.
the combine actually look more...human in this. great job with that
I still think this is one of the best sfm I've ever seen, this time the graphic or story doesn't matter but the environment the ambiance is so incredible
Amazing work and seriously VERY inspiring for someone like me who is trying to learn SFM (plz Valve update the stinking software) Thank you!

is always Mike and Dave
This is pretty great stuff as always. Always a fan of Combine operations and their simplistic classic design is unmatched so far.
@Cameraman_Scientist. Autistic
I love how much story is told, and how much information you can get of the situation and world without even moving the camera
I love this take on a universe ambiance for various series. Helps flesh out the smaller details of expansive narrative worlds that tend to be either overlooked in other fan animations, or seen as a nod or in passing (Not that there is anything wrong with that based on what the artist is prioritizing).
This is just different and I appreciate it.
0:36 Strider with its morning bread taking a walk 🤣
It´s funny. The more human like movement and gestures of the soldiers here actually makes them less scary. The janky, fast and linear movement they had in Half Life 2 and the Episodes made them feel even more efficient, robotic and alien. Nonetheless this is a nice piece of SFmaking!
The animation may be breathtaking, but the sound sold it to me, and to think this is based just on concept art. Mastapeece
Good stuff! Always love seeing your animations, keep it up!
It sounds like the grenade zombie cries "stop it!" just before he throws the grenade. Reminds you that the poor things are in so much pain.
This could easily be a scene from "Civil Protection" Dave wanting to mess with some zombies
Dave: "Hey, Mike, look at these buffoons"
Mike: "I don't think we should be-"
Dave: "Shit! That's a grenade!"
The strider just waddling away in the background
The sad part is there is plenty of people who would join the Combine in a heartbeat and turn on humanity
is there anything worth saving in this planet?

while europe burns in "protests"

The sound mixing is insane!
When i see such competent combine soldiers, I realize how nearly impossible work Gordon freeman had managed to do.
and he didnt even had military training, he was a scientist that got and polished his skills on the run...
I really like that you combine (no pun intended) funny/meme hl vids with more serious ones. Also the atmosphere in hl2 is so amazing. Perfectly depicted here and in higher fidelity due to a source 2 and hl Alyx. Although it looks much more depressing and apocalyptic here. Great stuff.
This could easily be the menu of Episode 1.

So true
fascinating, almost like dreams i've had as a child, but it's the soundtrack that REALLY stitches everything together nice-nice. would love more please.

I'm absolutely entranced by the soundtrack, here. It's so perfect for this scene, so eerie and droning, even horrifying. I NEED this soundtrack to play on loop, lmao.

This animation and atmosphere was great as hell.👍
I actually wanna see an sfm of the combine soldiers being heroic against these creatures
This looks like a really good drawn comic instead of an animation and it blows my mind.
Only thing i saw was the strider passing by had its legs noclip through the rubble but overall this is a great animation, would love to see more use of the hl2 combine in the future, maybe let them work alongside the quarantine zone combine from hla

"Why do we always have to clean up the mess the grunts can't handle".
Making the color correction and fog set to look like HL2 cover is genius!
Before I've actually got to play it, I thought that this is what the game is:
A postapocalyptic city layout with enemies moving in a mist (strider noises, mobile wall and citadel alarms sounded even more blood-chilling then)
Sick little video Diorama. Very cool.
this could be those in menu background screens
When the last guy paused and started looking around, I was waiting to hear that howl from those fast zombies before everything goes pear-shaped.
Beautiful as hell, wouldn't mind seeing more bits of random times/places in the HL universe.
almost perfect animations, i can feel the weight of their weapons. bravo
It’s ironic that even though there’s monsters and threats outside the gate, the wire at the top are still pointed inward… not trying to keep anything out, but to keep people in.
Absolutely amazing, well done once again
Beautiful wrong like always dude , Eeerie nature and that 0:55 bit was beautifully executed
God I don't want to know what it's like to live in a world with the combine. I actually had a dream last might where I was in City 17 and it was a nightmare but I'm so glad we live in on an earth where Combine don't exist...
Hopefully..
The rat is the main character
fucking love it in sfm when the walking animations are quite fluent and realistic for once, amazing
Good to see some use of the hl2 soldiers, I'll always prefer their simple utilitarian designs over hla's overdesigned enemies
I can watch a two hour version of just this. Just the ambiance of City 17.
This is brilliant I love it and I want more.

This is one of the best put-together sfm clips I’ve ever seen, keep up the great work!
The thing is; the beings on neither sides of the fence is human.
The "zombie" is a human being controlled.
The way the angle is placed it makes it look like a animated menu, like the ones from l4d2 & black mesa
Oh, so Combines are aware of the headcrabs but they actually dont care? Damn
Well they do use them as weapons in half life 2

1. Nice ambient
2. Wow the sound and colors
3. For some reason gives wings of desire vibes (that german movie)
This would be an amazing menu screen, great job dude, 10/10
A small detail I just noticed is the radio on the ground by the fence. It actually lights up as we hear overwatch speak
There's so much here. The fact that the strider doesn't even notice or respond to the breach because it's not important enough, the behavior of the soldiers at the end, where three of them are just super relaxed, another day at the office, while another is nervous, scanning the entire area, even behind him, and then the casual elite arrives at the threshold of the quarantine zone and instantly turns into a machine, scanning the area, before proceeding (you can see his entire body language and pose just change like the flick of a switch it's amazing). And that's not even mentionning some of the more basic stuff, like the metropolitan police getting close, playing with the zombies before going 'alright, fun time's over, let's do our job', while the soldiers just ice everything in sight before even getting in view of the camera.
Bruh this would make for a great screen saver on loop. Very impressive, Komegatze.
Very nicely done! Won't want to be in a world like lol.
Excellent. I enjoy the bleakness. 8/10 from me personally.
I could watch like an hr of stuff like this happening from a single static cam. Just a 1 of many things happening at once.
