    An article about Sidecar has been posted on Proa File for those interested. It has more pictures, as well as specs and build details. proafile.com/multihull-boats/article/the-proa-sidecar

    Mr. Bent, well done. This boat needs more sailing video. A detailed explanation of the rig would be awesome. Here, or on SA, or on the Harryproa board.

    There's me thinking I know all the possible Proa configurations in the world and I stumble upon this amazing creation, such are the wonders of the RUclips algorithm! A teepee biplane rig that...works! With a Proafile ref too! Huge respect to the designer / builder. Thanks Hell-Bent for putting the canoe out here on video.

    This looks amazing! I would love to see a more details of this boat. it's really hard to tell how the boat works though - I'm a proa enthusiast, but the camera doesn't take in enough at once, and the walk around at the start is cut too short.

    Lots of views of the bow wave and the wake. It would have been nice to see something of the boat. No real detail to get excited about. Let's have a boat tour and explanation next time.

    • @hell-bentfpv
      @hell-bentfpv  Год назад +1

      The owner of the boat specifically requested that I not post anything with him in it, which is why there is no real footage of the cockpit while we were sailing. I had shot some interior footage, but GoPros really don't like moving from outside to inside and the footage got really dark and grainy and was basically unusable. I probably should have taken more video at the dock to explain stuff, but it was near 0°C and standing around in the cold was not high on my list of things to do after a day of freezing out on the water. There are lots of technical drawings and explanations from the owner available on SA if you want to learn more.

      It was homebuilt by its designer (not me). It is a one-off, there is no kit available, and I do not know how much it cost. I've done some design studies on a folding version that can fit in a monohull slip, but nothing far along...

    I see you have this I don't even know what to call it . An outboard stay sail aero rig? If that is what I think It is? In Hight winds you can just use that sail alone and maintain good stability. Great Design .

    • @hell-bentfpv
      @hell-bentfpv  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for your comment! Because of the nature of the camera used and wind conditions on the day of shooting, the recorded audio was rendered unusable by really bad buffeting, and thus was replaced. Also, due to the nature of the edit (necessary due to the sporadic recording of smaller clips) sounds would have been cut off and patchy even if they were serviceable in the first place.
      I am returning to this boat and it's very gracious owner early next year with vastly improved equipment (including microphones) in order to film a proper mini-doc on it, which will contain more nat-sound. Stay tuned!

    Looks great from what I can see, but I am always disappointed with a Proa demo that does not show a shunt.

    • @hell-bentfpv
      @hell-bentfpv  8 месяцев назад

      I would have shown one, but it was the owner's request not to be filmed and so there would have been very little to show anyways. Due to the bi-plane rig, I couldn't exactly sit out on the aka to film from there and any other angle would have had him in the shot. By the third day of sailing with myself on the helm and the owner running the lines we could carry out a shunt in about 20 seconds and were able to do so in very confined spaces, often coming to a stop within spitting distance from the shoreline. With the boat's rudder layout I could simply dump the sheets and push both tillers to leeward (causing both rudders to turn almost 90 degrees in opposite directions) and the boat would go from 12 knots to a complete stop in less than its own length. Never sailed a boat with brakes before 😆

      @@davidcummings6299 you're right, you don't need training wheels, just a giant chunk of training lead hanging out under your boat and slowing you down. Enjoy doing 7 knots upwind in 20 knots of breeze, I'll be sure to tip my hat as we leave you in our wake. Oh, wait, the narrow, light hulls are so efficient that they barely leave one. I'm sorry you feel that way. I didn't think it necessary to include any information given the multiple forum threads with double digit page counts and the Proafile articles written on the boat which provide much more info than I could cram into a 3 minute video. As a side note, if you want to try and insult people on the internet, you should at least check your spelling, because mistakes like that completely neutralize the insult. Thanks for stopping by and adding to the view counter!

      @@KingMinosxxvi The 6.8 million people who like that song on RUclips would likely disagree, as would the people who have listened to it over 314 million times on Spotify, but I don't find much point in arguing with people who try to pass their opinions off as fact. Music is subjective by nature, and that a fact. As an example, every clip on your favourites playlist would put me into a coma, but that doesn't mean they are objectively awful, and I won't think of you any differently because that's what you enjoy. No, instead I'll judge you based on the fact that you have nothing better to do with your time than to insult random content on the internet and the people who spent their time and money to get that footage to you.
      I would have liked to have been able to film a good interior tour, but unfortunately my GoPro either over or underexposed every single shot I tried to film in there so the footage is largely unusable. It's not my boat, and I'm now on the other side of the planet so it's unlikely that I'll get another chance any time soon.
      If you don't enjoy my content, that's fine, go somewhere else. I, for one, certainly won't lose any sleep over your absence...
