For 200 users I would recommend a Global Catalog. A global Catalog is also used for searches. If you are using a single domain single forest the replication should be small since a lot of replication will happen between partitions on the same Domain Controller. See the video Active Directory Partitions to see how this works. If you have multi domains I still think it is worth trying. AD replication is quite efficient so many not cause to much load on the lines unless the company is really large.

You should have a GC available when you log in just in case. In theory if replication has not occurred it should allow them to login. However, once replication has occur it is going to know that the user is a member of universal group and require access to a GC to work out what groups that user is a member of. However, depending on how they log in the user may require access to a Domain Controller anyway, for example they login using a UPN.
The video MCITP 70-640: Active Directory Partitions explains how all these works. Essentially the Global Catalog is a subset of the information stored in the domain partition.
If it is a new install is most like there are no computers in your domain. If you only have domain controllers the computer account for the domain controllers will be under domain controllers. When you prompted a server to a domain controller the computer account for the server is moved from computers to domain controllers.
Some functions require a global catalog server in order to operate. For example finding a forest wide operational master role will require a GC. The GC contains a partial replicate of all objects in the forest. It does not have separate index for each domain. When doing a search you could ask for all objects in one domain and this would give you a domain wide search. If you have not GC's on your network certain operations will fail even in a single domain single forest environment.

If I have a single forest with a single domain with 2 DCs, why do I need to make them GC? In such an architecture, how does the system differentiate Forest wide searches to domain wide searches?

Hi, I had a clean copy of Server 2008 R2 Enterprise installed on the VMware machine and was follow you allong the series.... When i clicked on AD Users & Computers and found my Domain there and when i click on Computers in my domain i can not see any computer listed... What can be the reason? THANKS

The global catalog is a distributed data repository that contains a searchable, partial representation of every object in every domain in a multidomain Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) forest. The global catalog is stored on domain controllers that have been designated as global catalog servers and is distributed through multimaster replication. Searches that are directed to the global catalog are faster because they do not involve referrals to different domain controllers.
