So i've reached the last video 23/23, it was awesome all these great explanations. I hope that all your hard work will pay off one day, so for now i'll say "keep it up guys" and again thanks.
On Windows Vista/7/8 the local profile will be created on the computer when they login under c:\users. With Windows XP it is in C:\Documents and settings. This is copied from the default profile if it does not exit already. If the user profile setting is configure in the properties of the user, the files in this location will be download to the local computer and upload when they log off.The home folder if used for where the user stores their documents.
When you open Windows Explorer, the home folder is essentially the documents folders. So instead of storing documents on the local computer they are being stored on the network. The user just opens the documents folder as normal and does not know they are being silently redirected to a network location. Your are correct, user profile is the settings, desktop, user registry files, icon positions etc. Home folder is just that document folder.
It is hard to estimate, but if you look at the Microsoft web site this will show the objectives for the course. We have covered about a 30% of them so far.
The username is a string like Bob, Pete, Jill. Windows allows you to add a Universal Principal name (UPN) to the username. For example. Microsoft (dot) com, ITFreeTraining (dot) local. So the user can login using the username or the username with the UPN on it. I do not know what you are referring with user+email.
One more thing I'm uncertain with. When we talk about 'user profile' and 'home folder', having gone several times through this video I still don't fully understand what type of data is stored in each of those. Home folder is where the documents are stored, i.e. all the files created, whereas 'user profile' is where preferences are stored, desktop icon positions, those kind of things?
Your videos are really very helpful thanks a lot to making such a great effort. It will be very thankful if you could make video on RODC as there is some confusion on Replication b/w RODC and a Normal DC.
In my environment some users folder are created as X12345.Domain I would like to know how to fix it. I want whenever they login it will create only X12345 folder Note : I use Roaming profile. Sometimes I have to delete their roaming profile and Local profile. I would like to know why it is happening
By default, the profile should be created with just the user name. If a folder already exists with that username, a new folder will be created with the username followed by the domain. So you need to make sure there are no existing folders with the same name when the user logs in. I am not sure why you need this, but if you are using scripting, you can use variables like %userprofile% which are configured to the path of the current user’s profile. This way, you are always looking at the correct folder.
