What??? Why the dislikes.... im frustrated rather saddened to know this irony that some hardly can understand the talent who interests that left a heaven for us to rejoice and live in harmony..i salute this gentleman for everything he was..
@@kina7128 thank you for your comforting words. I understand jealousy creeps out of laziness and feelings of worthlessness. In such situations people should be alert erase jealousy by involving in some talent they can do better if not such a big garden challenge. It has little to nothing to do with the video. They are obnoxious people who like to mess with people. They're bullies oddly feeling powerful hitting the thumbs down or immature & like to upset people for no reason.
This is what every gardener secretly or not so secretly aspires to create in their own gardens. I absolutely love this & have gotten inspired! I’ve been into topiaries & wanting to create topiary forms this year.
I so want to dedicate my later years to my garden. I just can’t afford not to work. I’m trying to establish what I can. Recently bought a house built in 1905. There’s already many things that come up every year. I just need time to maintain and care for it more. No servants or money here to indulge my dreams.
I just loved both programmes. Thanks for uploading them together. Major Lawrence Waterbury Johnston (1871-1958) was a British garden designer and plantsman. He was the owner and designer of two influential gardens - Hidcote Manor Garden in Britain and Jardin Serre de la Madone in France. Both gardens are beautifully described here.
I really appreciate the schematics that let us understand the layout and sheer size and grandeur of the garden and its various rooms. Enchanted and inspired ... love this.
So beautiful! I totally enjoyed watching this, BEST time spent on RUclips ever! I totally believe the spirit remains, he put everything he had into his creation, heart and soul. Heaven ❤
Beautiful garden! Interesting documentary...if he was shy and introverted..he spoke beautifully and quite articulate to humanity through his passion and gift of gardening.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I visited Hidcote some years ago, but to see the garden sans the masses, albeit in a video, is something very special and enhanced by useful commentary, information from gardeners and peaceful music is truly lovely.
Wonderful pair of programmes, great to view back to back like this. I've been to Hidcote many times; my old dad grew Hidcote Yellow roses, as I recall. Now I must see the garden at Mentonne...
Just ran across the two videos and love both. Hidcote is my wife's favorite English garden which we have visited several times on our trips to the UK. We normally visit National Trust gardens. We joined the Royal Oak Foundation (which is reciprocal with the NT) so we are able to visit all the properties of the NT free of charge.
As a gardener/landscape designer looking at the end of my creation, Cypress Hill Garden Venue, I wonder how what I have created will evolve with its new owner? This was a wonderful, beautiful film and thank you so much for uploading!
If Freud had been a woman, she would have many things to say that some readers might not want to read here. So I will skip that. Tree ferns. God, how beautiful. A little bit in from the beginning was my first thought of the “futuristic” death scene in the film, “Soylent Green.” Now, I see it through out the entire film! I cannot grasp what kind of privilege these folks must have felt they were entitled to. Anyway, thank you. Without this, I will never see it. and will try to “imagine” their amazing fragrances.
WONDERFUL video! I recently googled 'Lawrence Johnston', wondering about his namesake rose (shown in the video, with Blackspot, of course - even in England). And here's a video about him! Does anyone know how about the heat tolerance of Mahonia Lomariifolia? And what's with, "Many of these plants NOW go back to ones Lawrence Johnston would have chosen?" Why was there ever deviation from his plant choices?
Beautiful ! Had a hard time with reading the subtitles and looking at the gardens and houses at the same time . Maybe that's just me... I had to click on subscribe . Thank you.
Loved the video, but the poor sound of an electric piano marred the unity, since the visuals and the voice of the narrator were lovely. Thank you for upload!
The “Red Garden” as installed by the National Trust is just a mess. Perhaps now with the examples of Piet Oudolf’s borders and gardens it can be properly restored to its original design, one of texture, winter perennials and grasses.
Thank you for bringing up this issue! So many fabulous documentaries are desecrated by this ridiculous music. Useless piano, and it's off key as well! What a magical program. Please stop the music!!!!!
Find the piano a complete distraction from the narration and the visuals, ruins it for me unfortunately because I’d love to watch it but can’t stand it.
What??? Why the dislikes.... im frustrated rather saddened to know this irony that some hardly can understand the talent who interests that left a heaven for us to rejoice and live in harmony..i salute this gentleman for everything he was..
I agree with you there. I often think that those who cannot appreciate the beauty in gardens such as this, are sad and jealous people...

I too share a burning desire to express my own inner beauty through gardening.....🤣😂
So beautiful.. 😍😍😊🤗 Thanks! for sharing, l like the garden and flowers, love nature!
Beautiful narrative/biography of such a quiet man achieving greatly his passion.
So so interesting Johnston and Hidcote complimented each other
It’s great to see you all just hanging out and fanning each other’s flames 🔥
A beautiful documentary. Love the story of Johnston and his two gardens.

30:35 The Skunk cabbage plant: every time I have been near this plant, it has stunk. Its so beautiful it should smell good.
I wish I had enough room to make a beautiful garden like this making the most of my Yard. Beautiful 😍

Garden, a 3D artwork that lives on rain and sun, and flutters in the wind.
So true! We humans are born to be gardner.

Not sure if I have already commented but really enjoyed this and after watching this tracked down the book Norah Lindsay; wonderful!
Absolutely great videos. Major L. Johnston was an amazing and beautiful person, thank you so much for sharing these video’s ♥️
Thank you so much for sharing this awesome video with us love all the beautiful gardens and all the history
A great film on a great man, who created two gardens in two nations! Bravo!

Fantastic!
Thank You for those Books you read that inspires you to do such Great Designs
Too formal for my wild wooded holler mentality. But nice anyway, fun to look at.
As a gardener/landscape designer looking at the end of my creation, Cypress Hill Garden Venue, I wonder how what I have created will evolve with its new owner? This was a wonderful, beautiful film and thank you so much for uploading!
Wish they would list the plants they specifically showed.

Derek Jarman hated these formal rigid regimented gardens and called them Hideouscote.
to be rich is to have such a garden! wowo

so his mother gave him his lands. brilliant.
some people have all the luck.
Not really luck, just money. If you feel like you're out of luck: you're just poor.
If this is on a DVD I would purchase it immediately. Please someone tell me truthfully it is..
I’ve been there , you have captured it well ! You do not need the heavy piano music ! Sad found it hard to hear the story !
Loved the video, but the poor sound of an electric piano marred the unity, since the visuals and the voice of the narrator were lovely. Thank you for upload!
Splendid photography of beautiful flowers. Feel sorry for the narrator who had to read a repetitive and disorganized script.
Music much too loud for the soft voice. Had to keep muting it. Lovely garden, though.
Oh my goodness. Even though he was American....lol
Can you turn the music off,it overshadows the commentary, can't hear it properly..............
The “Red Garden” as installed by the National Trust is just a mess. Perhaps now with the examples of Piet Oudolf’s borders and gardens it can be properly restored to its original design, one of texture, winter perennials and grasses.
I wish they would've named more of the plants shown and in text.
What is the orange blooming bush on 34:40 ? It' beautiful
Great garden, really a living masterpiece! Unluckily, too loud and dramatic music. Why don‘t you trust the pictures?
Thank you for bringing up this issue! So many fabulous documentaries are desecrated by this ridiculous music. Useless piano, and it's off key as well! What a magical program. Please stop the music!!!!!
Was the village of Hidcote in South Africa named by Johnstone?
8:30 for myself to continue watching later
Could someone tell me the name of the narrater please thanks

Ugh...the music ruins it
His Hidcote manor gardens was far better
