I have a PTR32, except for the fact that it seems pigeon holed by taking Magpul Pmags it worked incredibly well. It’s also pretty accurate for a 7.62x39mm. It’ll accept G3/HK91 front handguards and other upgrades/modifications for roller locks.
The 2nd Gen is supposed to be better. I got a PTR-91 FR and since I unfortunately live in the Commiewealth too, they gave me a faux flash hider that fooled the transferer (Minuteman Firearms) almost wanted to take off because it was convincing byr the slits in the "flash hider" are actually solid. I had to sent it back once and since has been fine. A word of warning do the Hk slap. If you ride the handle, you won't always seat the round reliably. Particularly with surplus aluminum mags. This is a non-issue on mine if I do the slap to chamber the round. My M1A is lights out reliable in comparison but the 91 is decent reliable, particularly with the heavier steel mags. Mine is really accurate. Hitting a duelling tree accurate at 300 yards. The stock stock needs another inch or two of relief for a scope. Surprising especially as German people are above average size having been there.
I owned a ptr32 and had similar issues with the bolt and case extraction. I replaced the extraction spring with a heavy duty one and that fixed extraction. Had to send it back for the bolt lock issue. I got the rifle back after 4 weeks and since then Iv had no issues. I did buy one of the early versions but the fact that ptr payed for shipping and returned my firearm in a tinly manner made it forgivable. Unlike some companies they stand behind there product. Ps. If you have trouble charging the firearm get the extended charging handle or get stronger lol
Mine likes the Korean steel magazines and Serbian reloadable M67 ammo. I put the Shooting Sight trigger pack in it which I like. Note that Tela Impex commercial ammo is advertised as non-corrosively primed but it is not.
I’ve got a good one . Feel good about it . I replaced the stock furniture with wood and replaced the grip module with the magpul. It’s a good rifle, the wood hand guard does a much better job of heat management . It’s been very reliable with lots of different ammo. I love HK irons . It’s what I run. The surplus plastic handguards have a metal heat shield the stock one lacks and is sturdier.
I have been a 7.62x39 cartridge enjoyer for majority of my life. The ptr 32 is by far the most accurate 7.62x39 I have ever shot. All of the issues you stated in the video are valid and I sadly agree. I would say if you wanted the role of designated marksman using cheap rounds then use this gun. Otherwise just wait for the new PSA JAKL or buy a nice ak and get an m4 stock adapter. This gun is good for sitting and taking accurate shots, other than that you better lift weights or get really familiar with troubleshooting.
Outstanding review. I’ve been seriously curious about these, and that tends to me buying one. I’ll keep eyes on them to see what shakes out. The concept is great, but we’ll see. BTW, I’d skip the GT impression. You do you, bro. No need to copy anyone. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I think that ptr really should just fix the gun and re-release it again. It has a fluted chamber so it shouldn't have an issue with stuck steel cased ammo. I shoot steel cased in all of my H&K clones because the fluted chambers are hell on brass anyway. Also it really should be built on the 33/93 platform instead of the full sized 91 rifle. I have a century c93 that runs great and is very accurate, I have a vector v53 which also runs great and is extremely accurate for a short barreled 5.56 (it's the same size as a full sized mp5 but chambered in 5.56) and I have an Atlantic arms mp5 9mm and the gun that got me started with the roller delayed blow back actions, the ptr91 which is an awesome rifle and is very accurate (I opted for the step above the base model ptr91 but I can't remember what its called). Its a heavy rifle but I expected that. Its alot of steel and it makes the 308 feel about like shooting an AK47 when it comes to recoil. I think the lighter and very handy 93 sized rifle would be great for the 7.62x39. The mag well should be made to work with surplus steel AK47 mags (I hate to have an all steel gun with a polymer mag). Fix the reliably issues, down size the platform to the 93 sized rifle, make it accept surplus steel mags, and get more realistic with the price. This rifle with the issues it still has shouldnt be $1300+. Its sad and it doesnt represent SC or PTR very well that this is the gen 2 version and it's still not a fully trustworthy and reliable rifle. I'm a born and raise SC native and I'm also a gunsmith and HK armorer. Maybe I'll get a ptr32 (as I've always wanted to anyway) and actually make the damn thing work. If a commie can make a gun back in the 40s that will feed the damn cartridge and go on to become a legendary firearm I dont see why ptr cant get it figured out. Although, S&W nor Spikes tactical could get 5.45x39 rounds to work in an AR platform with out constant failures, or in my case a brand new fully built by spikes tactical 5.45x39 AR blew up in my face. As for now I'll keep my AKs for the x39 rounds, be it 5.45 or 7.62. I love the RDBB guns but a 9mm, two 5.56s and a 308 will have to be good enough for now. Though I'd love the hell out of extremely reliable 5.45x39 and 7.62x39 H&K style roller delayed guns. Seems to me that some of these manufacturers just don't invest enough in R&D and its costing them money and costing us shooters the pleasure of guns that would be that cool.
A 93 sized version would be stellar. I fully agree it needs to be able to take standard steel AK mags. Great thoughts! I’m still mixed on getting another PTR at some point.. I have my eye on the GI model still. I would like to pickup one of the H&K licensed clone MP5’s at some point as well. However, I just picked something up that kinda meets that need in my collection, and is an oddball piece.
I bought a ptr 32 a few months back and mine has a problem as well. I get light strikes every other round, I shot over 100 rounds with this issue and I don’t think it’s the ammo but I’m using Barnaul 7.62 X 39. I bought different ammo to try but I think there might be something wrong with my bolt carrier group. Overall i don’t see myself buying another ptr even if I get my issues resolved.
I don’t blame ya. It’s likely not the ammo, I’d reach out to PTR and go from there. I’m still very mixed on the idea of another PTR myself. I’m probably not going to grab another one.
I just got mine back a couple weeks ago. I had same problems, light strikes, failure to ejects etc. PTR put a new barrel in, charging handle and locking piece. They fixed it in less than two weeks. Other than initial frustration I’m happy with it now
@@jasonschmidt157 it amazes me how many are leaving the factory with issues, to this day. Sounds like this barrel swap fix is working. Mine has been fine since getting it back as well.
It’s such an awesome firearm when it works. It’s the smoothest/softest 7.62x39 gun on the planet! They need to figure out the quirks, my brass is always thrown at 1 o’clock. It also looks to me like a better feed ramp might help. It is pretty much 90degree shoulder from chamber to barrel.
Just seems like they're not fixing the problem and keep putting them out what if a company like this they should have better quality control especially after getting a lot of complaints that are all similar issues

funnily enough, people note that the PTR32, in full auto, has a slow, very controllable RPM very similar to an STG44
