    LYRICS
Show me a sign of troubles in your heart
Spare me your lies and tell me that you're mine
And our bodies float on the river
    To the oceans of demise
Made me a slave to the secrets of your silence
But you told me to stay
And you told me you're mine
And our bodies float on the river
    To the oceans of demise
In light of all things to come, why do you despair?
Because when you have no one, no one would care
    So don't care
And all things will come undone
    There is nothing to share
I'll be waiting for no one
And no one is there to care
    Can't see, can't feel
    You run, I long
    I wait, he comes
    Takes you away
'Cause he can feel you (on the)
On the way to comfort you
    In the embers of summer
    All things must die
There's a passage of fire ahead
    Fire on the other side
There comes a time when the river runs dry
    Winter comes and we sacrifice
    Our lives

Wolven Throne You can not like something but I hate when people say that music they don't like is "uninspired, meaningless etc.". Just because the musicians change what they want to do doesn't make it bad....no matter how much you might not like it.

I even like some of the new songs more than the old ones. I don't say ones are better than others, they just get more to me in this moment.
I've changed. They have changed. And also their music has changed. And that's great, I love it

Musicians change and mature throughout their lives and their music changes with them. This is what's happening to Michael Akerfeldt and his music. It's not selling out. Selling out would be to keep making death metal just to please old time fans.

    • @iDoqz
      @iDoqz 5 лет назад +7

I agree. Selling out is making music to please the audience, whether thats people who enjoy pop music or old time fans who want more death metal.

I agree completely. I love their take on prog so much, and then there is the first section of this song that is not particularly proggy, but it is one of my favourite bits of music ever and that solo is smooth, golden perfection. Part of me wants that solo to be 8 minutes long. This was my first Opeth album and it's the first album for a long time that literally made me sit up and listen to every single note and love it from the first listen. It is superbly produced too. Some other modern prog band's sound exactly like every part has been recorded separately and fail to sound cohesive to my ear (dream theatre I'm looking at you...) But this just sounds so damn good. You hear every individual part but it forms a beautifully cohesive whole. I could go on but I already sound like a twat, lol. It's great, go listen to it again! ;)

There’s so much expression to be found in Mikael’s solos. The only one I can think of that may rival this is Windowpane or maybe the clean solo midway thru Bleak.

What they are doing with melody and harmony is out of this world. 2:33 - 2:38 - genius music move. I am very melodic-oriented, and I want to listen to this song forever, I want to play it, sing it, I want to live in it. "No one is there" - holy cow, these polyphonic voices...I could go on forever, this song is just so amazing.
I actually love thrash metal and alternative, and my favorite band for years has been Metallica. Now I'm not sure which one I would name as my favorite one.

  • @noahballs

First time I listened to this I was thinking 'wow Mikael has made such a happy, heartfelt song for once' and then the song really does go down the river through turbulent rapids and finally into despair and demise. The whole song is a really masterful musical execution of the lyrical metaphor.

Colin Estes Well no, as someone who has studied music his whole life, I can safely say that they have expanded musically and definitely become better musicians, and Mikael Åkerfeldt has definitely become far better as a vocalist. Listened to this whole album last night for the first time and surprised me no end.
I heard ELP, Kansas, YES ,CSNY and Poco drifting through but with an original twist.

One of the most BEAUTIFUL, immense, EVIL, creative, and goosebumps-y songs from Opeth!! \m/ \m/ \m/
Every album from them brings in the MUSIC with the capital M \m/ \m/ \m/

      Lorenzo Tosi "Evil"? Really?

    • @lorenzotosiart
      @lorenzotosiart 9 лет назад +17

Yep. If you listen to the lyrics it's unsettling from the beginning (because the music is "happy" and so it contrasts with the content of the lyrics which are quite depressive) and then that evil part breaks in (he comes...takes you..etc) and then BAM "fire ahead, fire on the other side", there's no escape. It's so INTENSE!!
