Xanthos, one of the famous #Lycian cities of antiquity and a theater of war for the power struggles of many states throughout history, was undoubtedly the symbol of freedom for the Lycians, who considered independence the essence of life.
Xanthos is on the #UNESCO World Heritage List and is one of the best archaeological sites where you can trace the Lycian civilization in Anatolia, and famous for its funerary art. The rock-cut tombs, pillar tombs and pillar-mounted sarcophagi you see at the site are unique examples of ancient funerary architecture.
