....he got screwed. Was he aware of this rule prior to competing? or are they making up rules on the fly? Because I know that one time they docked someone for saying a word that was similar, but another time they let it slide.

I have been watching lots of these episodes recently. There are other rules that are never mentioned on the show but maybe they are explained off camera? You can’t use any part of the word in your clue included abbreviated words: you can’t use “CD” for the word “disc” because it’s one of the words. You can’t give # of letters on word. You can’t say “rhymes with” for your clue. (So “sounds like” is probably out as well.) I am not a fan of Meredith explaining the rules (I skip them every time), but I do wish these would be mentioned.

What's worse is they were enough word to give more and better clues

I don't think that he got screwed, unless of course they really didn't explain all the rules to him. It seems pretty obvious to me that telling your teammates how many letters long the answer word is is just as illegal as saying, "rhymes with" or "alliterates with."

I'm not being mean; I'm just being honest & logical. That was her own damned fault. Rules are rules, and you are supposed to keep track of how many clue words you have left. Plain & simple, she blew it.
Heck, she didn't even need to use that many words to convey the concept to her teammates. A simple "department store dummy" or sometimes like that would probably have been sufficient.

Not the judges' fault on that last one. The lady was so excited and got ahead of herself, forgot to think.

I know that she said if I was 5 words left and that was five hours on her clock and then she changed it to four at the end

@@beautifulwonderful4391 It doesn't matter if she had 4 or 5 left. She used 6 to describe manniquin.

So many people on this game would do better if they just left out the prepositions and spoke like cavemen.

Forgive me if I come across as very argumentative, but...
Having watched scores of episodes of this show, that rule struck me as quite obvious.
For example, U r not allowed to give clues like "rhymes with..."
Legal clues are conceptual. Illegal clues describe the structure of the answer itself.
Come to think of it though...
      🤔💭
I'm trying to remember if I ever saw a player get away with "2 words" as a clue. I'm not sure off the top of my head 'cause I don't trust my memory 100% these days.

Even before he blew it with an illegal clue, I think he would have done better to say "certain" than ,"synonym yes."
