I'm 44, I turned 20 in 2000. So I saw the height of the cult of celebrity. I never understood it, and I'm glad to see its decline. I'm glad people are finally seeing past the glamour (a word with a telling etymology by the way) as I always have.
There are some celebrities that I am a fan of like Johnny Depp, and Queen Latifah But I don’t care where they shop who they date where they live or stuff like that I just really enjoy the work they do on the screen That’s how it should be
@@dfw6558I get that and it should be like that, sadly many people don't think as smartly as you and stress themselves over the fakeness of celebrity PR tactics and their crazy lives.
@@dfw6558 I love movies, and think some actors are pretty good at making me believe the part. Definitely. And I love some music (mostly 80s and 90s music and Salsa, merengue, etc) and think the songs are great, but I never cared about the actual singer and group so much. I agree.
Say it again for the people in the back! They need us for income, validation, and relevance. We are in control. Stop following, sharing, buying, watching, liking, and even disliking. When they get no attention from us, then they will either change or fade into obscurity. Meanwhile, we log off, go outside, get to know each other, build communities, and clean up our environment.
I think a lot is lost. Film and TV has power to impact us and make us think. Due to the short format of most social media, we often lose the elegance of communicating a point in as artistic of a way. Not to say that does not exist in social media, but the time investment, and therefore the impact it has on us, is not as great. Social media is a quantity game in that domain, whereas film or TV was more about quality of material. I'm sure once upon a time, authors were the "celebrities" of their time, but film & TV usurped that. So it's really a medium shift more than a cultural shift imo. I'm not saying we need celebs. God knows I hate the Kardashians. I'm just saying there is value in quality. If anything, social media is more of a problem as it distorts reality terribly. But then, I was never one to follow the personal lives of TV, film, or sports celebs. I just pay attn to their product rather than their lives. 🤷♂️ Sorry for the length. It's an interesting topic to me.
I'd say it's more like children are waking up to the fact nobody's perfect in every way, and that real life is actually a struggle to be as decent as you can while overcoming your own shortcomings the best you can. And the kids aren't equipped to cope. It's entirely weird to me. Like before, when the image of the celeb was carefully edited (as described at 4:27 ), we STILL knew they were drunkards, drug addicts and loonatics. But we loved their work end enjoyed the make belief. Todays kids, it's like, they watch movies and YT videos and then suddenly open their big, BIG eyes and go "...you mean IT'S NOT WEAL????" like someone was lying to them or something. When there was no lie; they were just stoopa enough to watch fiction and THINK it was real. Like, the Kardashians are A SHOW. And then you have people SHOCKED by the fact, it's A SHOW. "Nausiatingly FAKE compliments" like... love, have you ever left your house before? Ever?
I watch a farmer from Florida who just went through two major hurricanes (Helene, Milton). Now that’s a hero for me , defining what values I feel worthy of celebrating! I follow a bunch of RUclipsrs who are all interesting, strong and inspiring! Now these are stars to me!!
I think everybody was happier all the way around before the internet and we knew everything about what each other thinks... Not to mention the stars that hop online and tell us how to think
It's not just narcissistic, it's also arrogance. The old actors were humble enough to realize people loved their movie personas, not them. These actors think they ARE their personas.
No the older actors were the same. They were not humble. If you look at the inside of Hollywood at the golden age then you will see the vile and dark insidious side of Hollywood.
I really don’t feel like there’s been some major change. The only thing that’s changed is social media has removed the mystic and fake personas that were much more well hidden back in day. It didn’t become a sham, it revealed the sham
While narcissism, excess and greed always existed in hollyweird it was shielded, controlled and cleverly disguised, which allowed ordinary people to bask in the mystique of their favourite stars with only an occasional peep behind the curtains. Whereas today the 'stars' are as cheap, tacky and shallow as their ever changing values and beliefs which allows thinking decent people to see them, their desperation and their vacuous lives being played out like a circus filled with attention seekers. Its time actors and 'stars' stayed in their lane and acknowledged that their success stems from the talented writers and behind the scene artists who skilfully present them with the tools to perform.
I'm not tryna boast myself up, but since I was a kid, I never worship or idolize any celebrities, but I can see how a kid can get influenced easily. But as an older teen or adult, it's just sad seeing people worship people who not only give an ounce of an F about them but literally sell them out and believe they are above them. Not only that their are some people who literally spend less time on family to focus on celebs and pay, they hard earn money to go to their concerts etc it's sad
They in fact, are no longer special. They’re shallow and most of them stand for absolutely nothing. Glad people aren’t giving them the attention they keep begging for anymore
One thing I want to add: It is no longer about creating art; it is only about making money. Edit: Obviously creating things costs money. Hence why I added the word ONLY to imply that that seems to be the only factor that matters nowadays. Again, it has always been factor; no shit. But there was a time when big studios actually put in effort, hired people with actual talent, wrote compelling stories that had messages that matter. Today, they don't care about anything but money. It's solely about producing as fast as possible and quality doesn't matter as long as it's good enough that most people will still waste their money on it.
Because people who make genuinely artistic movies and artists that sign for these indie movies don't EVER get the spotlight they deserve. The people will only watch them if they're in one of the few lucrative high budget production companies in the industry that have lost touch with common people and their stories.
Let's end the hierarchical mindset that causes celebrity worship, along with worship of others for being rich and powerful. Albert Einstein said, "I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university" and if everyone thought that way there wouldn't be so many selfish narcissists rising to the top and influencing all society.
She isn't happy because it's all about her. Happiness comes FROM making other people happy. Narcissists can never find true happiness because the concept of making other people happy is wholly alien to them.
This is a good thing for society. I never understood the celebrity idol worship...I think the Covid lockdown was the final nail in the celebrity coffin... remember the cringe "imagine" celebrity sing-along?
Absolutely, especially when people become overly invested in parasocial relationships. I enjoy Chappell Roan’s music, but I’ve been eye-rolling at the recent uproar just because she mentioned being on good terms with her conservative family members. Some people took that way too personally!
The old school celebs had the right idea , keep it mysterious keep it private , DON'T LET THE PUBLIC KNOW WHO YOU REALLY ARE , because they probably Won’t like it, unfortunately now, we have these narcissistic idiots , so the public is switching OFF .
❤️🔥💯🔥💯🔥 FACTS. There's a saying, "Don't ever meet your hero". Lol there was a young and up-and-coming movie star named Gabby Hoffman who met her idol Madonna and was quickly smacked down to earth, when she realized Madonna was extremely rude and told her "Get away from me kid" when she ran up to her in a hotel or somewhere, asking for an autograph. 😐
@@DarkroomMedia007 I remember the time Madonna was on the Graham Norton Show and when there was a segment with fans presenting her a gift she was extremely rude and dismissive towards them. That always stuck out to me as one of the reasons why we shouldn't put celebrities on a pedestal.
Hollywood was the internet of the day. All content was planned and measured, totally controlled and the press had to snoop to find their lives and private moments. Now the people themselves display it all for you There's nothing a mystery
The lack of talent in Hollywood, will lead to the raise of independent film and I'm here for it. Hollywood is over and reality TV was one of the death marks
Nope, movies and distribution still require a large sum of money that's why movies suck they're not made by artistic people they're made by the bean counters
@@CGD777 Ya British actors are more private as well. Many of them don't even use social media and focus on making good content. I appreciate that more than the actors who are mostly nepobaby no talent influencers
Movies and series are still great. Reality TV is absolute trash, I don’t know what people see in it, but millions upon millions love it. Oh well, we can’t all be the same, but we don’t want to see any celebrities in ridiculous clothes at the Oscars or hear about the after parties, or hear celebrities politics or opinion in anything else. I appreciate my shoe store, I love new shoes, but I don’t want to know the salesperson’s opinion is on the world, I just want my shoes. Movies are great but the people in them are just actors not mini-gods. Same with sports stars…ka-boom 🤯
Oh, I have been waiting for the moment people realized these attention seeking people are just that…attention seeking people. I am so disinterested in it all.
Ya maybe if they focused on making good stuff instead of attention seeking we'd have more great entertainment today. But a lot of celebs got caught up and became reality stars and influencers.
to make it big now, with who is deciding who makes it, you need to have little morals to get there, it being just about wanting attention is long gone as that can be quite innocent
There are plenty of grounded actors in Hollywood, but most of them have paid their dues and have spent a lifetime shaping the kind of world they want to live in. They haven't sold their souls, but they aren't going to be offered any new jobs anytime soon. Dean Cain is one actor who comes to mind. He's not popular, and you're not going to see him in any new, big-budget films anytime soon, but he takes a stand against what Hollywood has become.
Influencers are somewhat a problem too. It’s becoming too easy to become famous. If everyone is famous, eventually no one is famous. And it’s also become about pushing products instead of the art. People are seeing through the lies.
Exactly! Not as many kids these days talking about “I want to be a Doctor (Lawyer, Teacher etc) when I grow up!” Now it’s, “I want to be famous!” Or, “ I want to be an influencer!” It literally kills my soul a little every time I hear a younger person express that desire.🙈 Ugh! I also just said “these days”…I think my 50 year old, I have become my mother transformation may be complete!
@@dcrewmomma You probably don't see many kids in your life if you think that more of them want to be famous than previous generations. The only difference is that millennials and older didn't specifically say they wanted to be influencers, because they didn't have social media growing up (because it didn't exist), but I know a ton of people around your age who have admitted to wanting to be a singer, movie star, model, etc. when they were children. Being famous looks appealing, especially to children, where they see that they have tons of money and validation that they are lacking, so wanting to be famous as a kid is nothing new. I know not everyone in your generation wanted to be famous, but the same applies to young people now too. Every kid is different.
@@mynameisreallycool1 at least in the past most kids wanted to be famous for an actual talent because they loved their hobby like and valued it as an art not just their looks so they can sell plastic garbage
Just wait. It's going to get worse. Gen Z hardly watches movies, and the older generations are getting pretty tired of being lectured instead of entertained, so they're not exactly breaking down the doors of theaters to see a movie either. I think Hollywood is falling fast...
I'm a 70's kid (Yess I'm OLD) but I've been on a kick lately watching movies from the 50s, 60s and 70s and it's a lot of fun. It's a throwback to a day when we weren't lectured and told who to vote for - actors and actresses were admired and they kept their opinions and business mostly to themselves compared to today. Besides 70s horror movies are a thousand times better than the CGI garbage of today because they left more to the imagination, so were much more scary. Maybe it's my way to unplug from a society circling the drain, not sure but I just don't like the mess we're in right now.
@@9teen9t4 just rewatched Amityville Horror, prob one of the worst horror movies of the era, yet its leagues more watchable and memorable than 90% of horror nowadays.
I remember when I heard about the "famous" Kardashians for the very first time from my friends and I asked, are they actors? Are they singers? Are they artists? What are they famous for? And my friends told me, well, no, they're just famous for being famous... I couldn't quite wrap my head around it. The world is wild.
SAME people would ask me if I saw this episode or that one.. same with Jersey Shore! 🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮and I'd always answer I have NO idea WHAT you're talking about, and PROUD OF IT. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Remember in the 70's (and even into the 80's) when musicians refused to allow their music to be used for commercials, etc.? They called it selling out. Boy, have times changed.
There are still genuine artists but the controllers of what goes mainstream tend to elevate people with low character who won't call out corruption at the top.
Streaming destroyed much of the traditional income of musicians (physical media to sell) so many absolutely will take royalties from commercials, video games, etc. The world we grew up in no longer exists.
@@tysonblake515 physical media only existed (commonly) since the 30s (musical sheets notwithstanding). Musicians have been around for thousands of years...live performance is supposed to be the main bread and butter.
Thank god that the streaming platforms and AI is killing the celebrity culture. Streaming is killing off the movie theatres thus killing off the whole movie star culture. Thank god for that. With AI we are going to be fortunate enough to see fake actors and hear fake singers that look and sound as good as the real thing and we won't have to pay homage to any actor or singer anymore.
I read this article that criticized Snow White and the Seven Dwarves for depicting the Dwarves as doing back-breaking labor and enjoying it. I was like "b--tch! That's Walt Disney! The Mouse Man himself! There was probably not a single man in Hollywood at the time who knew hard work like he did!" When he talked about dreams and imagination, he meant it! For all his flaws, I love the icon that Walt Disney was.
@@TheRisky9And look at the mess Bob Iger made of the Snow White remake. Woke Snow White who assigns all the work to the dwarfs, who doesn't get rescued by the prince but becomes her own "girl boss." Oh, and to boot, a very unlikable actress to play the role. Not what Walt would want.
Agreed. Both they (Hollywood) and professional ball players get paid waaaaaaay too much. They are our entertainment and somehow they've become worshiped.
Not really, they get paid what the market dictates. WNBA players would be an example of people getting paid too much. Their product loses millions every year. Fortunately the market is now being flooded with low quality content, so actors salaries will soon reflect that.
They are treated like Gods and Goddesses. I’m tired of these vain narcissistic celebs and actors. Not musicians as they create music that stays with you forever. Takes talent to master an instrument. Still paid way too much in my opinion though. And I’m fed up of seeing the same actors in the same movies. I’m really sick of the ubiquitous Samuel L Jackson and Nicole Kidman. For example I like Harrison Ford but who can take him serious as a Geriatric hero who thwarts dangerous criminals and black ops style teams. Time for some new blood. Celebs also know a lot of bad secrets like all the SA and drugs that goes on in Hollywood. I mean perhaps Matthew Perry might still be alive if celebs had ratted out the Drs illegally prescribing things like Ketamine. And all the SA’d young actors some of which took their own lives or got heavy into drugs and OD’d
They are too stupid to realize that when they get political, they alienate roughly 50% of the population. There’s so many celebs I refuse to watch anymore due to their ignorant political comments. That’s dollars they are losing from their bank accounts. Their job is to entertain, not lecture. They have free speech, but they must realize that voicing their opinions will hurt their bottom line.
Thank you! Right now they are pressuring the black community to vote for Kamala because she is supposedly black which she is not, she needs to stop playing games and be proud to be Indian.
I agree with you. At a young age of 13 something clicked in my head and made me not want to do that because it's like a form of worship. There's a saying, don't ever meet your hero you might not like them. That stuck in my head as a teenager.
@@PatNR813 so what you are saying is that there wasn't a single public person that inspired you ever? Not even a person like Einstein? Or a famous athlete?
@Elimbi1 I am talking about celebrities...movie stars. Sure I liked some but I wouldn't idolize them! People in history inspired me: Helen Keller, Founding Father's, War heros and the like. Not movie stars.
Celebrities used to inspire awe. They were other-worldly. Today's celebrities are keen to show everyone how normal and relatable they are, which instead just shows how ordinary they are. We live in an internet age where anyone can become a celebrity and a lot do, with very little talent (looking at you Kardashians).
for me, it was June 1992 when Clinton went on Aresino with that sax.. That was when America went after style rather than substance. there is a vapid response that I see on TV all the time as a response to that moment. It is a young guy gushing like a schoolgirl "like it was so amazing...like we finally have a cool president." Cool is fine for a high school president... but not the leader of the free world. Then it has been downhill ever since.
@@Lisa-co9ng BIG boomer energy in this post, omg 😂😂 “Someone called the president really cool! It’s all going to hell!” Go sip your Vermouth somewhere else, gramma
There's a lot of belief that Kennedy beat Nixon in 1960 due to the first ever presidential debates that were also televised. Nixon had a 5 o'clock shadow and was sweating bullets while Kennedy looked calm and cool... the power of imagery. That said, if you listen to those debates today, they sound like classical statesmen compared to the modern clown show, illustrating how far our politics have also fallen, a much bigger deal than Hollywood. But of course, they're inextricably linked.
@@wordup897 It's even worse than that. Some pollsters surveyed people who'd listened to the debate on the radio, and people who'd watched it on TV. The former group said Nixon won; the latter said JFK did.
I was just talking to my wife about him. I think 25yrs ago before social media he would have been made out to be crazy and a conspiracist, but..... We're all seeing celebs fall hard
People don't care, true. But not just because they came to this epiphany on their own. We can't afford to care. We don't have the attention spans to care about them anymore. Not only is our media landscape fragmented (so there's less incentive to buy in to "the popular movies or shows" that everyone else is watching as purchase on social capital) but also our attention is fragmented. Celebrity culture seems so dull and vain and superficial compared to outrage culture online, doomerism, etc.
Honestly, being famous would be a nightmare. Being looked up upon on everyone, not being able to do basic things without selfies and pictures and chats. And that lingering feeling of you make one mistake twitter will absolutely cancel you...
I dare you to go down that rabbit hole if you haven't already. MGM- Louis Mayer coined the term Star, and had a rating system for the actors. He was actually a vile human being who exploited his employees. Most notably, Judy Garland 😢
To be fair, this also applies to regular people. People have forgotten how alluring mystery is. Within days of working with someone, they have told you everything there is to know about themselves. Everyone has most of their lives documented on social media. And none of it is that interesting. Remember when you used to glimpse someone regularly and wonder about them? It was intriguing and so sexy! People are so obsessed with themselves now, its really quite tasteless.
It's gotten so out of hand that we have parents, since the 2000s, posting their children's faces all over the internet, despite knowing how unsafe it is for them and their kids being too young to understand the negative consequences, even posting embarrassing content that would make their kids a target for bullying or even harmful content that pedophiles would enjoy, or posting what school their child goes to and other private information. All because mommy and daddy need likes and clout.
True .i mean at one side they throw the word Personal space, personal life and at another side they will be telling every sh*t to the world..they also put themselves in danger too by putting so much information
Actually my disliking Blake Lively had nothing to do with her film, it was that interview where she bullied that woman for congratulating her for her “baby bump”. Classic mean girl right there.
And the worst part about that interview is that the interviewer has been trying to get pregnant with no success. She deeply hurt that woman and Blake SHOULD be ashamed of herself....but I won't hold my breath.
It evaporated bevause anyone can be a star with a phone and a youtube channel...celebs arent 100 miles away anymore, now theyre next door, down the road.
Reminds me of the "actress" who did the protagonist in "the Acolyte". In one of her interviews she explicitly said how she was given the role. Like, she didn't rehearse for it. There was no selection process to find the best actor. She was "given" the role bcs it fit her RL personality and her socio-political views so well. She never once acted in her entire life, but always just literally played herself.
If actors aren't any good at there jobs or more like "careers" there is a casting couch And then they aren't inheritantly good anyways but if they are good at there jobs then you have to worry about how bad that real person really is.
I'm wishing people would stop buying into Taylor Swift's "All American Girl Boss" persona soon. It's gotten tiring seeing the media treat her like she's some kind of otherwordly being you can't criticise.
Even Classic Hip Hop Music, which was still sexualized had class. Not every video had half naked girls in it and it was rare enough to shock people, now it's garbage. 🗑️
They WERE normal people. Until they sold their souls to Satan. (And they did, whether they join in with the “goddess” circles, weird cult parties, and child SA 💩 🤢 or not. Every last one of them has sold their soul to get where they are. It’s time they get out of our faces- kinda like Gypsy Rose who would sell her baby to be one of them 😂)
The saddest thing in life is not when someone gets tired of too much pain, it's when they get tired of too much pleasure. Truly a hollow and decaying feeling. Graveyards are FULL of young "celebrities"
What's even sadder is that they simply reflect the misery of the country - Celebrities are just on display so their addicted, depressing lives are exposed more.
@ChildrensRightsFirst947 I respectfully disagree. I think that the reason why celebrities are failing, as per the video, is because many people are seeing the hollow lies that their lives are. With all the sex, drugs, debauchery, etc. and, in turn, pulling away from Hollywood.
It isn’t 15 minutes though, that’s why it’s so gratifying to see this happen. Because it has been lasting for YEARS. So it’s not 15 minutes of fame, it’s 15 years of fame.
@@aycaiix The problem is that people don't ask WHY these celebrities became so famous... and WHY all these celebrities try their best to brainwash people into becoming bigots, racists and "victims" all the time... it's because these celebrities and who becomes a celebrity is hand picked by the owners of the world (billionaires) and celebrities are their puppets that try to do their best to divide the people... force racism and sexism and all the other isms into every conversation to pit men against women, black against white etc because the owners are afraid of one thing... the people waking up and realizing that together they hold all the power... that the owners of the world are owning us only because we haven't realized that we can take their power away if we truly unite... that no matter how rich they are, they can't go against billions of people around the world if those billions realize they've been lied to for decades and that they all face the exact same problems in their lives... because it doesn't matter if you're black or white or yellow or a blue smurf, man or a woman... The problems are the same for all of us... quality of life is at it's lowest... people that have entry level jobs at big companies nowadays can't even afford the very basic need of being able to rent a decent home (let alone people that work 2 and 3 bullshit jobs just to barely get by)... prices are going up constantly while salaries haven't gone up in the last 20 years and in many countries like mine (I'm Greek) have even gone down by about 30% since the 2000's... They have used celebrities to brainwash people and created a fake illusion of the "great life" while they suck the people's wealth and hide all their dirty money in Panama, Marshall Islands, Cayman and every other "tax paradise" cause they take it all and give nothing back... we're paying their taxes cause the rich pay NOTHING... and celebrities are their hound-dogs for keeping the sheep always nice and quiet in the sweet little cage they've made for us... THAT is way celebrities exist...
Let's get one thing straight. Stars in the Golden Age of Cinema had talent. Today's celebrities like the Kardashians have nothing to offer. People are getting tired of that. I'm glad this is all ending.
Yep it showed us who they really are, entitled rich assholes but forget their selling a product the the public then shits on them. Hollywood is a cult.

It is high time our society abolishes celebrity culture, these narcissistic people do not care about you neither do they know about your existence, all they care about is money, fame, success, idolization and power. It has always been this way. The world needs to wake up and focus on the things that truly matter.
Fat chance. There's always people who want to worship something if it's not celebrities it's influencers if it's not influencers it's politicians and so on and so forth.

@@MayaHendsenmayajs19442 What she said made sense. People with not much to lose tend to seek “higher powers” disconnected from them that they simply have to put a lot of their energy into to feel gratification. People around their rock bottoms for example- they tend to seek spirituality. This can be in religion, God/gods, or human worship. Anything the individual can project themselves upon for their own feelings, needs and desires. Those people in those isolating/hopeless/rock bottom situations tend to parasocialize while their self hatred keeping them from bettering their lives eats them up inside.
even the older celebs i am finding so many had eating disorders and were addicted to uppers and downers and alcoholics and so much cheating and divorce ugh
I truly believe the shift changed during Covid lock downs. We were forced to focus on ourselves and prioritize what was important in our life while the celebrities got to stay in lock down in their huge mansions and had the nerve to complain about how bad it was. People lost jobs , kids lost proper education, many lives were lost. It woke up a lot of people.
I've just written almost exactly what I see you have written. Lockdowns really showed up the cracks. Watching some of them whining and breaking down when they were so privileged with space and luxury homes really opened up my eyes and now I'm very particular as to who I can stomach watching. I'm done with most of them. And if they try and share life skills or political views, I can't switch them off quickly enough.
And they lectured about how we should "stay at homes" while they were throwing parties, and next thing you know they are all lecturing us about who we should vote for.
@@adrienchl4265 Throwing parties on their private islands. Lecturing us about our carbon footprint when they are tooling around the planet on private jets. But thats ok because somebody planted a tree.
I also agree 100%. While I do believe the main driver is social media both showing us other people tobe sources of entertainment, the biggest trigger were the lockdowns as not only did people suddenly struggled heavily, at that same exact time the celebrities were posting more than ever about how they are "also suffering". Remember when a bunch of them sang Imagine while in the middle of their fleshed out mansions and a song that starts with "there is no heaven" with almost certain someone's watching was having their grandma on a ventilator dying.
There's this quote: "Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people." It's never been worthwhile to follow the antics of some individuals. Go live your own life!
I would also like to add that a lot of things people loved in the past are now reaching its 20th or 30th anniversary. And considering how nostalgic the internet, streaming services, and hollywood has been for the past 10-15 years as well, it's no surprise that hollywood is tanking. On top of that, nothing is fun anymore. Everything feels like a business and all you seem to hear about now is how a celebrity has become a billionaire.... I never thought anyone reaching billionaire status would make me even less interested in their work, but here we are...
Some of us never idolized them.... We mostly saw them as disturbed individuals and just sat back to watch when the facade would collapse. Glad that you are finally catching up.
This explains why Hollywood seems to hate genuine people like Henry Cavill and a few others. People with real talent who keep to themselves about their personal lives and merely show admiration for the subject matter pertaining to their work (like Henry's love for the actual source material for projects that he does). I think this also means that private people like him aren't busted doing things they shouldn't, like, say, going to a P. Diddy party and are thus not subject to blackmail.
Lol, Henry Cavill is a typical typecast, boy can't act and he's also part of the dumbass culture war. A perfect example will be Christian bale or cillian Murphy
Celebrities are either getting too old, dying, or being exposed as human trash.....A true hero isn't someone who you can look up to anymore, it's someone who you can RELATE to.
And when they open their mouths and start spouting what they feel, what they believe, what their ideologies are, and whet they’ve turned their kids into, I’m done. No matter how much I like a show, as soon as they do all that, I quit watching. Definitely liked them better when there was some mystery. Making me know them makes me not like them!
Agree, people need to separate the actor or singer from the person, its about the art and what they produce. You dont have to like someone to respect their craft.
I don’t even enjoy their work anymore. I’ve watched a handful of movies and left others midway since lockdown. I’ve re-discovered nature, travel and have taken up music. I’ve forgotten hollyweird even existed
@MorgMorg-uf6ps they're the ones that insist on telling us about themselves. That's when they blow it. Because strangely enough being able to act, sing doesn't make them super anymore than being a brick layer does, or a secretary a solicitor, librarian, care worker, dinnerlady, joiner.....I think I've made my point. They just act. And some are pretty good at their trade. But they're still no more special than anyone else
Even if a celebrity endorses someone or something i already support, i resent the idea that they feel the need to instruct us commoners on what to think or do. They're qualified experts bc they can memorize lines, look attractive, sing or play a sport? It's so pretentious and condescending. 👎🚫🤮

I recently had foot surgery and for the past 3 months I have been situated in bed with my foot elevated so I was unable to maneuver myself in the living room at night while my husband watched TV. Before the surgery I was already getting so bored with anything on TV (including movies) and then after the surgery while in bed I was either reading, studying Italian, drawing, or watching YT videos on travel, gardening, home decorating. I didn’t realize how much Celebrity Culture (along with boring TV/movie formula) and even TV commercials was making me very sad… and now that I have my mind back, I am so much more balanced and happy. Many years ago I saw a bumper sticker that said… “Hide from your TV”…. How true… Americans in particular need to stop worshipping celebrities and buying whatever it is they are selling….Stop being sheep… While they are living the life of their dreams, they thrive off of us eating their crumbs…
People all around the world are awakening spiritually. When this happens, you begin to crave authenticity. Celebrities tend to represent the opposite. A large part of their focus is on “me” - what I’m wearing, owning, doing. Very few are interested in the betterment of humanity and bringing a present awareness into this reality. It’s becoming much easier to see through, especially when so many are also struggling to make ends meet.
After the literal year of the beat, 2016 (666+666+666+6+6+6), the year Western society really started falling apart at the seams, it’s like that year was the beginning of the end and the end of the beginning for good and evil in the world- mainly the western world (for me) as that’s what I’m predominantly exposed to; like BIG things that have never been questioned before were set by God to over time/now, be exposed, burn away slowly, or straight up die. Like it’s all wayyy too coincidental when I look back at it all over the years; just the way everything is turning out over the years- like a random global pandemic on a mirrored, decade breaking year?! Maybe humanity just decided to be extremely stupid that very special year and coincidentally, accidentally brought upon an entire global plague on humanity which we’ve haven’t had to deal with to such magnitudes for how long!? Marking a unfathomably bad start to the new ‘modern’ decade now making people talk about each year separately like each one is an abusive ex they’ve experienced trauma from. Like humanity in general now just seems like it’s just hurting the most it’s ever have due to the romanticization and rewarding of publicly being a victim, while others are healing from acute to severe trauma caused during or before 2020 and trying to make changes in their lives, while other people are doing both, or even one at a time simultaneously, while mainstream media as a whole is completely changing… what is happening in the world right now? Maybe we’re just being on the internet too much consuming this type of content about current society and these thing don’t really matter as much as we think they do if we practice common sense and rational to understand celebrities were always just regular humans at the end of the day like you and I, flawed creatures, logically, emotionally, no matter how skilled in an specific area. Unless someone changes the course of history for humanity for the better, they should not be worshipped. In fact, nothing should be *worshipped.* Things should be admired, respected and have inspiration be taken from to continue the good qualities of humanity for humanity’s sake.
Philanthropy is fake. Let's see real celebrities trying to better others like Russell Brand, he does seem really spiritually aware and truly trying to change the world in an authentic way
Actually, just idols. If an idol is false, then one is misdirecting their faith to what isn't. And if it is real, then it is guaranteed to be a demon in disguise (even if the entity it poses as seems outwardly good).
Did this person forget that Jackie Chan and Jet Li they also do their own stunt work because I remember people saying that Jackie Chan got hurt a lot for doing his own stunt work. In the movie Lethal Weapon 4 the director had to tell Jet Li to slow down when it came to the fighting scenes because he was too fast lol 😂
@@lancetaytayninh Yeah whatever stunts Tom Cruise actually does (who knows how much of his stuntman image is actually fake), guys like Jackie Chan are the true legends. Hollywood with all its money never made or will make action scenes that are as impressive as those in Jackie Chan movies from his good years.
The Hollywood virtue signaling.... Ugh. They live in a house the size of a small college campus, travel in private jets and yachts. But everyone else needs to take a bus.... While they are wearing an outfit that costs more than an average person could earn in 3 years!
Social media influencers are already far worse than movie celebrities/stars..... I don't want to think how bad those TikTok brains will become when they will get even bigger/more famous.....
That’s not entirely true. Celebrities were a part of spreading the Civil Rights Movement as well as raising money to take care of soldiers during WW2. Celebrities having a voice isn’t the problem it’s that this generation of stars doesn’t know how to use their voice effectively.
Social media is like steroids for them. They have turned into something I don’t think would’ve happened otherwise. A sea of boundless egos, absent souls.
Mark Hamill, Chris Evans, Mark Rufallo, Michael Shanks, Madonna, Ashley Judd. There are so, so many actors and celebrities I could name that are horrific individuals. To say nothing of all the Instagram "models" who've somehow become "actors" like Emily Rajtakovsky, etc. The ignorant, and arrogant brainrot is unreal. And it's all propped up with gaslighting and strawman fallacies.
It’s all become so droll, mundane and repetitive… boring 🥱 people famous for being famous, I mean, it’s so far beyond a joke that nobody even remembers if there was a joke, let alone if it was funny. Those who spend their blood, sweat, and tears doing good works to help humanity progress at their personal cost, are the ones who should be lauded, enriched and revered by society, not those who play pretend, trade on their appearance, or kick a ball around a field for a living. About time that society gets its priorities straight. Talk about so-called ‘social injustice’, that fact is the biggest joke of all time. #societyisawful
Not just Tom Cruise, I think the guy who played Oppenheimer is another one. He plays a lot of well-known characters, but is very tight-lipped about his private life.
Mm but it’s not just about being quiet. She was saying movie stars of old were also extraordinarily talented. Multitalented. There are a handful of good actors who are tight lipped but almost none are also vastly talented in many areas. 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah the majority of them today are basically groomed from childhood to be actors… come from means to help them get ins… and often times are not very talented in their craft… much less have other talents.
Cillian Murphy is not on social media, he doesn't know how to use it, doesn't understand the terms... his confused face in an interview when he was told about the CM disappointed face meme and his response was, what's a meme? Priceless
I think the problem is they go all over social media and tell people who they really are... what made celebrities previously was people could use their imaginations and pretend that actors and singers were anything other than just regular human beings with all the same flaws. whats the saying? never get to know your heroes?
@@donquixotemom ok i'll phrase it differently... it's your imagination that lets you see an actor in a movie as the character in the movie, but when you learn about who they actually are in real life, it's really hard to separate what you know about them in reality from the person they're pretending to be in the movie, and that's why there aren't really any movie stars anymore.
Except their flaws are exacerbated due to being in a permissive environment with tons of money, fame and power. It’s easier to be a nice person when you have consequences for a hole behavior
This is not true for Hollywood but also for Bollywood, nobody cares for the new actors and the production companies keep using the same 50+ years old starts to get money. I personally don't know any new actors except a few whose acting i actually liked.
Celebrity back then was a bit more “accidental”. Actors like Jimmy Stuart enjoyed the art of acting but outside of his movies he had a private life and never forgot his beginnings.
He and others were also real actual heroes, willing to risk their lives for a war they thought was just. Edited to add: My brother was a very high end restaurant waiter and met Jimmy Stewart and the actor just wanted to chat a bit with him. He said Jimmy Stewart was really nice and just wanted some non--Hollyood talk for a few.
@@sdube001that’s incredible! He’s my favourite actor because not only was he great at acting but he was a humble and kind man - every story I’ve seen about people who met him has been the same as your brothers! Your brother was very lucky to have met him!
I think Hollywood needs to shrink down dramatically, cut out the cancerous agendas, and focus on meritocracy again. Stop preaching to your audience and focus on creating great entertainment.
It's somewhat incredible how many actors of the 'Golden Age' were military veterans with some jaw-droppingly heroic actions to their credit. And there were actresses, like Audrey Hepburn, who was part of the Dutch resistance, or Hedy Lamarr, who co-created a radio guidance system, among other things, who were pretty amazing human beings as well. The Golden Age actors and actresses just seemed to be more grounded, in general, than their modern counterparts. There are always exceptions to any generalization, but I think that is a fair observation when comparing past to present.
@@sully2737 Jimmy Stewart deserves special mention. He insisted on serving in the military, even though he was too skinny to meet the physical requirements and he could have easily gotten an exemption as a Hollywood star. But he got his way in the end, and he served honorably in WWII. (Sadly, he also got a nasty case of PTSD, which is part of what made his performances in _It’s a Wonderful Life_ and especially _Vertigo_ so intense.)
Personally. I think it's because in The Golden Age, celebrity was sort of a 'hobby you could turn off' [how many people could spot, say, Humphry Bogart in public. Modern celebrities CAN'T turn it off and it turns them into monsters

I'm 44, I turned 20 in 2000. So I saw the height of the cult of celebrity. I never understood it, and I'm glad to see its decline. I'm glad people are finally seeing past the glamour (a word with a telling etymology by the way) as I always have.
I never understood people that worship celebrities. I never will.
There are some celebrities that I am a fan of like Johnny Depp, and Queen Latifah
But I don’t care where they shop who they date where they live or stuff like that
I just really enjoy the work they do on the screen
That’s how it should be
@@dfw6558I get that and it should be like that, sadly many people don't think as smartly as you and stress themselves over the fakeness of celebrity PR tactics and their crazy lives.
@@dfw6558 I love movies, and think some actors are pretty good at making me believe the part. Definitely. And I love some music (mostly 80s and 90s music and Salsa, merengue, etc) and think the songs are great, but I never cared about the actual singer and group so much. I agree.
What a big waste of time like they even know who you are
Me neither.
We don’t need celebrities, we need community.
They need us
Say it again for the people in the back! They need us for income, validation, and relevance. We are in control. Stop following, sharing, buying, watching, liking, and even disliking. When they get no attention from us, then they will either change or fade into obscurity. Meanwhile, we log off, go outside, get to know each other, build communities, and clean up our environment.
Absolutely. Who needs celebrities anyway? I only want small influencers.
😂😂😂Communities lolo boring
That's where yt come in
And nothing of value was lost.
Yep!
It’s actually a net positive for society!
👏👏👏👏

Whereas today the 'stars' are as cheap, tacky and shallow as their ever changing values and beliefs which allows thinking decent people to see them, their desperation and their vacuous lives being played out like a circus filled with attention seekers.

They are watching movies and TV shows, just not Hollywood’s
I'm a 70's kid (Yess I'm OLD) but I've been on a kick lately watching movies from the 50s, 60s and 70s and it's a lot of fun. It's a throwback to a day when we weren't lectured and told who to vote for - actors and actresses were admired and they kept their opinions and business mostly to themselves compared to today. Besides 70s horror movies are a thousand times better than the CGI garbage of today because they left more to the imagination, so were much more scary. Maybe it's my way to unplug from a society circling the drain, not sure but I just don't like the mess we're in right now.

And my friends told me, well, no, they're just famous for being famous... I couldn't quite wrap my head around it. The world is wild.
They got famous for Kim giving dome to Ray j on camera and leaking their own tape. Easy.

I know now all these celebrities are doing Uber and poker commercials like Ludacris and Vanessa hudgkins or nespresso with George Clooney it's bizarre
that is because YOU insisted that music be free.

Most old movie stars came from brutal poverty and fought in wars, had careers before even hitting Hollywood.
Quite a few did back breaking, blue collar work.

They get paid WAYtoo much.
That's because people value them too much.

I’ve often thought a clear sign of the demise of Western Civilization is the celebrity of the Kardashians.

for me, it was June 1992 when Clinton went on Aresino with that sax.. That was when America went after style rather than substance. there is a vapid response that I see on TV all the time as a response to that moment.

Let's see real celebrities trying to better others like Russell Brand, he does seem really spiritually aware and truly trying to change the world in an authentic way
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaa420 not trying to be funny but russell brand is an accused r*pist.

Something like 75% of "celebrities" I've never even heard of and have no idea why they're allegedly famous.
THIS! And people kinda think it's my job to know who these people are. Nope.
We were all told years ago... Beware of false idols..
Actually, just idols. If an idol is false, then one is misdirecting their faith to what isn't. And if it is real, then it is guaranteed to be a demon in disguise (even if the entity it poses as seems outwardly good).
@@benrositas8068 Are all celebrities/idols evil/bad? It seems like a lot of them are nowadays.
I believe the quote you are looking for is “no good comes from hero worship” , lex Luthor said that in Injustice: Gods Among us
If you notice Hollywood and the music industry are also falling at the same time not a coincidence
Tom Cruise is a Scientologist. We DO know too much about him. He gives me gross 🤢
Yeah.. I can't stand Tom Cruise
Why though??
Did he ever recommend or suggest or encourage anyone to join...?
Seriously, I don't know. This is genuine question...
It bothers me when influencers show off, like it always has when celebrities do. I'm not a fan of influencers.
Agree 100%! Thanks for this video! Very important message not to blindly follow people!
Social media killed them tbh. Familiarity breeds contempt.
Oh wow, I’ve actually never thought of that before. Very true.
Social media influencers are already far worse than movie celebrities/stars.....
I don't want to think how bad those TikTok brains will become when they will get even bigger/more famous.....
You are so right. The mystique is gone.
Being rich doesn’t equate being happy, which is completely obvious when they still treat people terribly and bemoan their lives.
The second celebrities decided to “use their voice” or “use their plate form “ is the second everyone started to hate them and their work.
That’s not entirely true. Celebrities were a part of spreading the Civil Rights Movement as well as raising money to take care of soldiers during WW2. Celebrities having a voice isn’t the problem it’s that this generation of stars doesn’t know how to use their voice effectively.
er because hollywood has blackmail material on them?
It's not a new thing, stars of old Hollywood were political too, it's only amplified now because of social media
Don't forget Taylor Swift
@@jilliegirlie333 She's one of the worst. As evil as Markle, Heard, or Pinkett-Smith...but better at hiding it.
@@talithakoum3922Too true.

Cillian Murphy(hope I spelt his name right) is who you're referring to😊he also does a grand job in Peaky Blinders which is his most memorable role.
Cillian Murphy is not on social media, he doesn't know how to use it, doesn't understand the terms... his confused face in an interview when he was told about the CM disappointed face meme and his response was, what's a meme? Priceless
@@SabrinaLWilliamsyeah, he is a brilliant ❤
I think the problem is they go all over social media and tell people who they really are... what made celebrities previously was people could use their imaginations and pretend that actors and singers were anything other than just regular human beings with all the same flaws.
whats the saying? never get to know your heroes?
Exactly. Too much information these days.
Best not to make anyone from Hollywood a hero
@@donquixotemom ok i'll phrase it differently... it's your imagination that lets you see an actor in a movie as the character in the movie, but when you learn about who they actually are in real life, it's really hard to separate what you know about them in reality from the person they're pretending to be in the movie, and that's why there aren't really any movie stars anymore.
Except their flaws are exacerbated due to being in a permissive environment with tons of money, fame and power. It’s easier to be a nice person when you have consequences for a hole behavior
@@eddiejohnson4434 well there are the exceptions, obvioiusly, the only rule there is no exception to is that there's an exception to every rule.
This is not true for Hollywood but also for Bollywood, nobody cares for the new actors and the production companies keep using the same 50+ years old starts to get money. I personally don't know any new actors except a few whose acting i actually liked.
This can be said about various of industries like kpop
Who?
I think Hollywood needs to shrink down dramatically, cut out the cancerous agendas, and focus on meritocracy again. Stop preaching to your audience and focus on creating great entertainment.
it was never about merit read old hollywood gossip they had MOB connections
Know the history of Hollywood before spewing thrash, it was never about merit
the cancerous agendas are the entire point of hollywood
Nowadays most celebrities are like Errol Flynn... 🙄
Personally. I think it's because in The Golden Age, celebrity was sort of a 'hobby you could turn off' [how many people could spot, say, Humphry Bogart in public. Modern celebrities CAN'T turn it off and it turns them into monsters
But is our fault for putting celebrities on a pedestal, and they believe they are untouchable and above all !!
hepburn didn't get past them by batting her eyelashes, she was offering herself
Keanu Reeves is one of the last film actors too. He is silent most of the time, he acts, he promote his movie, he go home!
Thank God and its about time people wake up and stop putting corrupt and evil and predators in a pedestal
The so-called movie stars don't understand how much they're despised outside the Hollywood bubble.
That reminds me of one my favorite rap lyrics _‘Suckers don’t know how bad I’m at ‘em’._ Obviously, meaning his opposition isn’t even aware of just much venom and wrath he has for them.
