Gleyber Torres has a career .631 OPS batting leadoff, in 226 at bats. It's his worst OPS by spot in the order, by far. Why are we assuming that Volpe can't handle leadoff, but Gleyber can? I'll take Volpe's makeup over Gleyber's. And if Volpe does struggle with the pressure of batting leadoff, why not get that out of the way now, since we want him there by the playoffs?
I'd also disagree that the lineup is currently firing on all cylinders right now. The Yankees are 13th/30 teams in OPS, for a team that should be carried by the offense. They're good at winning close games, but they're not a juggernaught.
Volpe got on base 3 out of 5 times last night from the leadoff spot.
one game
Long term it needs to be
LF: Dominguez
CF: Jones
RF/DH: Judge and Soto
We get Stanton out of here so he doesnt clog the DH anymore.
Joez and BBD Talkin Yanks Episode? LFG 🔥
Thanks BBD and Joez! Really enjoyed this episode!
I think judge is the most likely to move to first to try and keep him healthier. So potentially the outfield of the future could be jasson in left, jones in center, and Soto in right.
Judge should be the one to move to 1B. He's the oldest, he has a permanent toe issue apparently, and being so tall is a huge advantage for a first baseman.
Except for the fact that Rizzo is a multiple time Gold Glove winner and a Platinum Glove winner, where as Judge is a ++ outfielder that never played 1st Base. At least not throughout college, the minor leagues and in the bigs (he may have played an inning at 1st in a blowout game in the past, but if he did I don't remember it).
So I just checked and I was mistaken. According to what I found on Google, at best you can throw Judge at 1st only in case of emergency. This is what I found when I asked Google:
Judge has worked out at first base before and played the position during his freshman season at Fresno State, so it's not totally foreign to him.
@clammer23 I meant for next year - Rizzo is a free agent after this season so the position could be open. Highly doubtful this would happen though unless Judge's ability to run becomes more significantly impacted due to injuries.
@@Requinix17 Fair point. I thought you meant to move him this year lol Who knows, he's a great athlete. He's
I need to see volpe to play in at least one postseason before I say extend him. Not saying the team rests on his shoulders but I would like to see if he can get a hit and make throws under that type of pressure. It’s been awesome watching him succeed in the first 13 games of this season but let’s see a little more.
Likes: Volpe’s 1st to home speed on a Soto/judge double.
Dislikes: less Volpe steals with Soto/judge behind him,
changes the chemistry of the middle/bottom of the lineup, and Volpe walks will likely go down as he’ll get challenged in the zone more
I think once Dominguez is back Volpe should bat 9th and Jasson should leadoff.
@@jd3thegreattm380bro r u serious? Dominguez probably won’t even be on the roster when he comes back he will be in triple a
@@thechallengers3652 you think he'll be in triple A all season?
@@jd3thegreattm380 nah but if he were to come back rn then he wouldn’t have spot on the team especially with Stanton playing how he is
@@thechallengers3652 by the time he comes back Stanton is likely injured judging by history. I hope not and I hope he's still playing well. And my point still stands if he's not going to be in triple A all season.
the sigh Joez made after BBD said Wandy is me
I honestly think if volpe keep his play up by 3/4 of the year they should entertain a long term deal
Will Warren isn't on the 40 man, Beeter is. They will call up Beeter first.
really hard ranking there. Normally something i'd feel confident in but it's just too hard i love them all so much
I think give it another month to make sure legit and he doesn't go back to hitting 200 lol
Unless you can get a deal that's too goo to turn down like 6/50million or something
No! You don’t extend a guy when he is going to be making the league minimum for the next two seasons.
He is not eligible for arbitration for 2 years and not a free agent until like 2028 or 2029. In two years you extend him
@@Platerpus7 i meant like 8/50 or 60 woops something that would be team friendly that teams have being doing lately
4:14 regarding Volpe hitting leadoff, Joez says "the yankees just like to overhthink sometimes" as he and BBD do exactly that
that's baseball, suzyn
Volpe
Soto
Dominiquez
Jones
Stop saying Hamilton to closer, he’s the Mike king 2 inning lights out guy
Soto Jones Dominguez Volpe
from what i saw in september my gut is telling me
dominguez soto volpe jones
edit: i know its too soon to tell and im influenced by years of hype
You’ve seen nothing from Jones yet. Aside from a home run in spring training.
Yes based on last year's .209 BA and two weeks of hitting well this year, they should extend him for 15 years at $30 million/per year. They should do it today. Now, immediately!
Can yall put these episodes on the talkin yanks podcast feed?
It's on its own podcast feed! If you search for the voicemail show, you should see it
@@BigBabyDavidJMthanks for the reply BBD! I’m digging the show. Unfortunately, I don’t see it available on the podcast catcher that I use (Pocket Casts). Perhaps the production powers that be can look into that? 😄
Why is it awesome that Jasson is 5’9? Dudes in this company love some weird stuff. Lol
Im surprised Joez's little league jersey still fits
Why miss out on the huge advantage the Yankees are benefiting from by having him cheap for years?
Major contributors being cheap is how you afford 5 or more hyper expensive stars.
Because you can lock up your star prospect now on a relatively team friendly contract, rather than pay through the nose for him later on in his career if he balls out. It's the difference between a manageable contract like Wander Franco's and breaking the bank for Aaron Judge. Top tier free agents already cost a fortune now, and they'll be even more expensive when it's Volpe's FA year.
@@clerns what makes you think volpe is going to be "top tier"? he sucked all of last season. this is a tiny ass 7 good games.
@@AnimeBronx Last season was last season. We're in this season in case you didn't notice. I wasn't implying he was a top tier guy already, but I'd rather believe he can get there than just assume he can't. Even if he doesn't keep up this torrid pace all year his processing at the plate looks improved. That and he's always had above average pop for his position and he's literally a gold glover. He's not even close to his ceiling and if he can reach it he'll be worth big bucks.
@@clerns what a profoundly unscientific retort that was.
@@clerns you can absolutely still sign him to a team friendly contract next year or the year after. Giving yourself time to afford Soto
You’re not even 15 games into the season, 11-3. Rule of thumb, you make changes when you start loosing, not on a winning streak. They’re not only looking to jeopardize volpes confidence, but also glybers. The only guy who’d fit the role pretty good is unfortunately judge or verdugo. Which both would throw off the lineup chemistry
Highly doubt Volpe confidence will change in lead off, might very well boost it🙄
No sharp stats this year?
Soto,volpe,Jason,jones
I think in 2 years we are going to put vivas at 2nd
I know he hasn’t shown anything yet but I really like what Berti brings to the team. I want him as the 3B majority of the time even over DJ.
He’s a full second faster than volpe & hits like what 280 for his career?
16:11 why oof ? 5’9 = smaller zone
I think they are trying to see Volpe at leadoff with DJ getting closer. DJ is not a leadoff hitter. Would be nice to have him and Gleyber lower.
Whispers: *alright*
If you want Volpe in the leadoff spot, why nitpick the timing? Volpe has been producing and Gleyber hasn’t. Make the change, thats obviously their long term goal so just do it
tiny sample size
@@AnimeBronx But they have made it clear that their plan is for him to leadoff. Why wait, especially when hes performing. Gleyber is not a leadoff hitter even when hes playing like himself
Because Volpe is still very young and is 2 weeks into a bounce back sophomore season. No reason to add additional pressure to a kid, especially when the team is winning like it has been.
@@drascula3806 everyone knows this is what they want in the long run. Theres just as much pressure in that as there is in actually moving him
@@Nickish36 There definitely is not the same amount of pressure, lol.
Definitely not yet. He was pretty bad last year, and this year he's been good for a week. Gotta be good long-term to get a long-term contract.
What difference does it make with slot he's in to comfortable, this kid has will be fine put front
Soto Dominguez Volpe Jones
Confirmed: Joez jinxed the Yankees sweep
No! Stop with this stupid question. He’s not a free agent for like 4 or 5 years and is not eligible for arbitration for two more years. Why extend him when he’s going to be making the league minimum?
It’s just bad business. If he plays so well for the next two seasons then it makes sense to extend him.
I like it better with jomboy and jake
This is what you got
The wait for Volpe to bat lead off argument is one of the dumbest I’ve ever heard. STOP
Yes they should extend volpe now, get him now at a low price. But that’s not how the yanks roll. Gleybor will be pissed.
what makes you think volpe is going to be top tier? he sucked all of last season. this is a tiny ass 7 good games.
@@AnimeBronx hope:)
No
The yankees have beaten the Astros (who were annihilated even more by Kansas and have virtually their entire rotation out) and literally the worst team in baseball. Yes, they are playing much better than last year, but they can't rest on their laurels and act as if no improvements can be made
Gleyber is trash, just because you are friends with him is not enough.
I can't watch this video just based on the absurdity of the title😮😮😮 why extend a kid that is cheap and awesome and allows you the freedom to pay for other players?? Yes pay him eventually but why early? This whole topic ignores the basic strategies of ANY Team, mix young cheap talent and pay for the career guys you need to keep, and strategically sign free agents.
Why do you think other teams do it? It’s because if you sign them early you can be paying them half of the what you would have to pay them if you let them reach free agency. The money you save from that is what allows you to go buy stars in free agency
@@noodler5583 I get what your saying but they don't do it this early! Name one team that has? He's literally played one year and has How many years on his rookie contract left? Pkus he JUST started to hit... Lets see him rock out this year and talk about this next year possibility.
@@3SonsRCJ-Rod, Acuna, Franco, hell Chorio on the Brewers got extended before playing a single game. I agree that it would be dumb to give out an extension to a guy that hit .210 last season, but if he continues to hit well throughout this season and gives another season of gold glove caliber defense, I think the Yankees definitely need to try and figure something out to get him locked up on a more team friendly deal.
@@noodler5583 I looked into this a bit more and your right.... There is presidents for this but I personally don't see the Yankees doing this type of strategy either this season or next season, they might wait for the third year.... Or after a second Plus .280 Ba season. I absolutely hope Volpe stays looking close to this good because we both know he's not going to be a career .340 hitter.... But would love to be wrong on this as well, because with his great defense him also being close to as good as he looks now is HUGE BONUS💪 Yankees For Life🤟
@@3SonsRCeven if Volpe doesn’t continue this amazing start throughout the rest of the season (which I agree is very improbable), I don’t think extension talks should be ruled out. The problem is the longer you wait, the more Volpe’s value as a big leaguer becomes established. If he truly is one of the elite shortstops in the game right now, the Yankees would have to pay him a lot more in free agency than they would if they extend him early.
Volpe was trash all of last season. This is a tiny ass 11 good games.
