Fun fact: the last rapper on the 3rd verse, Zev Love X, is MF DOOM himself before he became MF Doom!

3rd Bass is an interesting group with some great songs. They were brought onto Def Jam after the Beastie Boys left, and were thought to fill in that gap on the label. "Sons of 3rd Bass" went after the Beasties, but MCA took them down in "Professor Booty". "Steppin' to the AM" and "Wordz of Wizdom" are other great songs on this album. I would say their most well known song is "Pop Goes The Weasel" - ruclips.net/video/HzXI_ApY4dY/видео.html - off their second album, which is in response to the Vanilla Ice uprising. These were their only two albums. Serch then made a solo album and Pete and Richie Rich teamed up for one as well. Also, fun fact: The Gas Face is the very first appearance of Zev Love X who is now better known as MF Doom.

After Zev Love X's brother, fellow KMD member, DJ Subroc died in a car crash, he re-emerged a few years later as MF DOOM. Greatest rapper ever!

Public Enemy, EPMD, 3rd Bass, Don Newkirk were signed to DEF JAM Records thats why they appeared in this video. I believe Public Enemy's Production Team, The Bomb Squad produced some tracks for 3rd Bass

Fun Fact!! There was an interview with MC Search saying Hammer put a hit out on him for dissing him. People thought because Hammer danced around in baggy pants that he was soft. Hammer and his peoples were some of the biggest gangsters in the game. haha

These guys are considered one of the first multiracial Hip Hop groups to receive critical acclaim, and only the second group with white members to have acceptance from the Hip Hop community at large. I wish they were around longer. I had both of their studio albums on tape.

Beastie Boys had beef with 3rd Bass - MCA'a last verse in Professor Bootie (off of Check Your Head) is ripping the group to shreds! Classic Diss track long before Kendrick and Drake

1989 youngster, different times... No deal/label = not getting your music out. Maybe bootleg from the trunk of your car, but that's not gonna make you a household name/ sell units. Being independent was not a thing & getting a deal didn't mean that you was being paid properly either. Plenty artists been robbed or hustled by labels back then, a struggle that is lost on later generations.

Their first two albums are excellent. DJ Richie Rich was a badass on the turntables. I'll pull out some recommendations from their catalog later. Not sure why MC Serch and Pete Nice broke up... Serch had like 1 or 2 solo albums post breakup.

As much as I like Gilbert Gottfried, this is one instance where the non-video track would have been better for a reaction. His interludes break up the song too much. Great reaction though. No gas face for Stax Reacts!

A week or so ago I recommended MC Serch to you, this is where he was at before his solo stuff. I still ask that you peep "Here It Comes" and "Back to the Grill Again" (which features an early appearance by Nas, as well as Red Hot Lover Tone and Chubb Rock!)
