I heard my first pair of Maggies back in 1984 as a college freshman paired with a Velodyne subwoofer and as I recall, Audio Research electronics. I was hooked. Fast forward to 2000 when I was finally able to afford a pair of MG-1.6/QRs which are now paired with a REL T/7 subwoofer and Rotel electronics. I listen to this system almost daily, and my beloved Maggies still sound amazing. Affordable and fairly priced indeed! RIP Mr. Winey. Thank you for bringing great sound to so many audiophiles! Your contribution to this hobby will never be forgotten.

I purchased my first Maggie’s in 1975 and continue to own Maggies. My latest are the great 3.7is. May God comfort the Winey family during this difficult time. RIP, Mr. Winey.

This past week was my first Magnepan experience, I’m a proud owner of a new pair of LRS+. I appreciate Jim was humble and didn’t name the company after himself like so many other brands, although the name Winey speakers might have turned some people off. 😉

And never used crazy prices to position their products!! Magnepan is high-end sound with prices related to production costs instead of marketing shenanigans. Something totally unusual in the hi-fi world always prone to elitism and stupidity. I hope they continue with this honest and pro-consumer philosophy that Jim had.

My first three loudspeakers were Magnepans, the first sold to me by Mike Kay of Lyric Hifi fame. I can’t think of a better value for dollar in high end audio. Thank you Robert for this video. I think you summed it up perfectly.

So sorry to hear that. I still have the 1Bs that I purchased in 1975, rebuilt twice, and, knock on wood, still have them. Along with an SP3A-1, SP6, two D75As and a D75. Heaven, where, if you believe in that, I hope he now resides.

Very sad to hear of his passing. I still have my Magnepan MG-1.5/QR Speakers that are around thirty years old and still going strong. I think that when Magnepans are set up correctly they are hard to beat.

I met him in 1975 when he came to a stereo shop where I was working. He offered me the employee discount on a pair of MGIIas that I owned until 2021. I now have 3.7is in my listening room and Mini Maggies on my computer desktop.

When biamped with tubes on midrange and treble and transistors on bass there is no music the Maggie 1.6's can't excel on. May the Lord embrace Jim Winey's musical spirit (Thanks for making it sound so good) and bless his family and his company! This is from a 64 year old O.G Black man, music lover and hi-fi enthusiast. Peace and blessings, Amen.🙏🙏🙏🙏

They where my first speakers, as my second and probably also my third pair, when I have saved up enough.

You know, I was confused when I saw these tributes come out today, but then I realized what it was. I thought that Jim Winey had passed away a number of years ago. But I was actually thinking of Harry Pearson, who passed away ten years ago. Nonetheless, both of them were great figures in hi-fi. God bless their memories.

Why are all these great people dying now ? I never owned Magnepan speakers but I always appreciated them. They have a nice big sound. I went with Acoustat electrostatic speakers instead.

Sadly, whenever you hear a Magnepan (except for their original Tympani models) you think "why is there no bass?"
When they took them on a dealer tour the pair of 30.7s they were demoing exhibited the worst sound I had ever heard, and they tried to fix the crossover with a handful of loose components and alligator clips.
