  • Did you know that the song behind the Main Street Electrical Parade, perhaps one of the most famous Disney parks songs ever, wasn’t made by Disney, had nothing to do with Disney when it was made and that the person who did make it didn’t even know Disney was using it for nearly a decade?

    I would love to see a video of the moment he realized that the whole parade was based off of his music. That has to be the most amazing mind blow of all time. You'd just be in shock, turning to everyone you came with, saying, "that's my song that's my song, this is unbelievable!"

    5:41 Don Dorsey is actually the person with the mustache standing in the background by the window. The seated tech is Rich Banales.
    This pic is in "audio control" above the Opera House in Town Square. The audio tech can observe the parade as it leaves step-off and goes around TS and up Main Street. This was important before the parade route was automated and relied on people on rooftops to communicate by radio to audio control for sound cues as key floats entered each new sound zone. Now it's automated with embedded sensors in the route and GPS/wheel rotation data from the floats themselves to cue music timing.

    Perrey was a wonderful man. Late in his life, he did a three-stop tour and I was able to see him perform. Loosely similarly, having seen the Parade as a kid, when I got a copy of a Perrey & Kingsley compilation album in high school, I was stunned to hear the theme on it!

      The first use of Baroque Hoedown by Disney, was in the Electrical Water Pageant at WDW. It (pageant) was created for the Grand Opening of WDW, which was popular and it still operates nightly (down now due to the pandemic). The Electrical Water Pageant inspired the Main Street Electrical Parade. A new sound track was used for the water pageant, when the MSEP used the Baroque Hoedown.

    This isn't the only time that Baroque Hoedown was used in 1973 by Mexican actor, screenwriter, director, and comedian Roberto Gomez Bolanos aka (chespirito) used the track for the ending credits of his show el chapulin colorado (The red grasshopper)in 1973, he also used the track of the elephant never forgets for the opening of his iconic show el Chavo del 8 in 1971 which is an electronic remixed version of the Turkish march by Beethoven.

    This was simply a fabulous presentation of this material. I first went to Disney World in the Summer of 1973 and again in 1975. One of my fondest memories of these trips is this song and this parade(even though I'm from New Orleans where we do parades!). I also got to see Michael Iceberg on these trips. He had a huge, home built analogue synthesizer and would perform where Sonny Eclipse "performs" (which is a giant elevator). He would appear out of the ground from the utilitidors. Would love to see someone such as yourself do a short video on him. He was truly amazing and deserves a bigger place in Disney lore.

  • @dpamio

    • @alfredohurtado7229
      @alfredohurtado7229 3 года назад +5

      Not exactly. Chespirito used music that was already written by Perrey, in which case he also didn’t know it was being used for many years and eventually sued him and Televisa for back royalties.

    • @dpamio
      @dpamio 3 года назад +1

      @@alfredohurtado7229 you're right, I expressed myself as if he was "tasked" with the music creation for the show, while in fact they use his music without paying royalties. I should have said "He also composed the song that later Chespirito used (without express consent) for El chavo del 8"

    • @dpamio
      @dpamio 3 года назад +2

      BTW, it's called "The Elephant never forgets" and is based on the classical music of Bash "Turkish March". There is an excellent video about it, though in Spanish: ruclips.net/video/BWDAZgwvuIU/видео.html

    • @dpamio
      @dpamio 3 года назад +1

      And just another data: even though el Chavo del 8 main theme is "The Elephant never forgets", Chespirito used Baroque Hoedown (the one of electrical parade) for the ending titles of El Chapulín Colorado (another character on the same TV Series).
