Such gorgeous perfected beauty that just flows out naturally. This music is a delight anytime it's heard, just so easy and comfortable for the ears. Lovely!
Jo Stafford is one of my very favorite female singers. She had such a smooth way of singing a song. I have these songs, they were later released again on a 12-in. LP with 4 other songs. This is a 10-in. LP. Just like so many other great singers of the past, she's no longer with us. But her beautiful voice remains with us through her recordings. Her husband was Paul Weston, whose orchestra backed her up on the majority of her recordings. Paul Weston himself, was a great composer, arranger and orchestra leader. Thank you Gustavo for posting yet another beautiful album
G.I. Jo they called her during WW2. Imagine the poor young guys fighting in the Pacific or elsewhere listening to her beautifully evocative performances, longing for home and loved ones and knowing they probably wouldn't make it back. What a great singer Jo Stafford was. She didn't have to scream and warble with her lips flapping around in the wind like Whitney Houston did on the video of "I Will Always Love You", a truly painful piece of music and a terrifying sight to behold. Thanks for this, it's beautiful.
I didn't know this mid period album ... her first foray into the world of jazz ? I only discovered her about 5years ago ... I'm continually amazed that she's been forgotten , a voice every bit as remarkable as Sinatra or Holiday. So bluesy , dreamlike & enchanting ....
As You Desire Me. My god, what majesty from Jo Stafford. And the bridge, from 1:15 to 1:40..."I doubt not...that you will...do what you will with me......I Give my life to You. for you're...my Destiny." Such lyrics could not be written today. But back then, a love song was allowed to express total devotion....And loving submission.
J'ai découvert Jo Stafford en écoutant la radio de la base de l'US Air Force à Casablanca (Morocco) . Elle chantait " You belong to me" en 1955 ! ! .....Souvenir Souvenir
