So this is what it's like to live in a country that maintains and instills the culture of its indigenous people and doesn't commit a cultural genocide of its indigenous people.
They actually did do a cultural genocide but kept the haka for sports purposes.
@@jaredgarbo3679 ''kept for sports purposes'', where did this information come from? 😂. If you were from Aotearoa you would know Māori culture is strong here. The haka is just one small part of our culture. Do some research.
yep
While playing a sport invented by the invader. The past is the past, you learn history to not repeat the same mistakes not to insult the current generations.
ehh i disagree.
The captain instilled a deep fear within me. I have the feeling she could kill me through glares alone
I think my heart stopped when the camera showed her face.
This is just apart of their culture she's not going to kill anyone 🤦🏽♀️
@@briannamanmohan6459 I know, but the origins of haka was a dance to prepare male warriors for battle. Also, her expression is very fierce
@@Roma-kp4qg the Haka is not only used for war. It's more like a ceremonial dance, used at significant events, so you could think about it as a formalised expression of emotions.

True😘
right? I just watched the wedding haka and WOW
@@swhertzberg oh wow that's where I just came from too, how cool
I have been watching a couple haka videos. I don't see some random person screaming randomness. I see a warrior, a spirit speaking for war, gives me cold chills. Some may hear some random yelling, I see so much more. I hear war cries, language generations old, hundreds upon hundreds of years old. Still alive till this day, all the history coming out of the warrior as she sings. Such beauty.

I absolutely adore how the haka is not only about performance but also about passion and fierce. Imagine how great it must be to live in New Zealand.
It feels awsm. That's the essence of NZ.
Every time I watch a haka being performed, I have a feeling the performers channel their ancestors thrpugh it. It makes me both afraid and deeply respect the tradition. Very emotional watching, my heart races every time.
You do know that some of them are white people of northern European ancestry? It doesn't matter a whoople to me, but I know some people, with nothing better to worry about, get most agitated about something they call "cultural appropriation"..

For those that don't know, a haka is basically a dance/cry that is a challenge or declaration of strength - Maui performs one towards the end of the film Moana to distract Te Ka from attacking Moana.
Is it nice that Polynesian history is so carefully preserved today. "Te Ka" is virtually the same name as one of the two closest things that New Zealand's navy have to battleships. In fact the current commander in chief of the navy once commanded her. The other one goes by the confusing interpretation of "The Power" or "The Authority".
Except women arent allowed to lead a haka in Maori socicety.
Haka
dose also so have other meanings.
No you will Never know what it Really means in our ancestors I'm afraid why don't you go back too where you come from an tell your own sister's story's Thanks Alot.
Kia Ora!
@Not MyRealname It depends on the haka. I went to a mixed primary school and even with boys we had one haka that was led by the girls. (there was another just for the boys, and another with everyone that was led by boys). And then I went to a girls high school and we had our own haka - girls only. Haka are diverse. It's a living tradition with many different facets and contexts.
I love seeing a girl version. The girls definitely are more graceful in their movements. With the guys, you see more stomping and they make more sounds and slap more. The women are doing more dance like movements, but still are very intimidating with the way they speak and act. If I was on the other team I would be smiling tbh. It would be such an honor to be watching this in person.
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING
Haka is beautiful
I agree with you. I could feel the emotions watching it. They did amazing.
I like stomping
Thats because the girls can't clap their boobies, that hurts even being a man dude.

This is the first Haka from Women that i saw, and they are actually amazing
It's very normal in new zealand, females and males have always performed the haka. The actions or "dance moves" are just varied depending gender.
This is one of the more impressive ones, I've seen others where the majority of the team looks like their watching it on an instructional video for the first time.
Haka gives me chills every time. Male, female, rugby, wedding, funeral; doesn't matter. Often brings tears to my eyes.
Same here, I'm on a haka binge currently, these are amazing!
I wish we had something like that here.
Haka makes cry too. It is touching and moving

Amazing!
Dude their ultimate goal was to instill fear in the hearts of their enemies and boy oh boy was fear instilled in the hearts of anyone within a 100 mile radius
The intense look on their faces, the fierceness and not to forget, their buffed physique... Man.

From what I understand of the Maori cultures they have totems and carvings with similar expressions and are trying to emulate them by making facial expressions like that. It truly it a beautiful tradition! So much love and care for the past! :)

Cool
So many sexist and disrespectful comments towards these amazing ladies & their culture. Some People weren't raised right.
Do not confuse Kiwi indignity as weakness. When the natives realized exactly what it means to cede "sovereignty" to the crown of London it caused a 30 year war in 1843. A short firefight with "armed police" in 1915 over a "non conceded" Maori village was later seen as potentially the last engagement in that war. If the UK army seriously retained a tactic regarding dug in infantry the Great War could have been easier for them.
"european and spanish" lol like spain isn't in europe. what a stupid comment
Kay Hefner Some people have different opinions. And doing something that was originally meant to be done by men only is something they have taken from our culture, not theirs.
Daniella Etxezuria You could say that about almost every European country, their cultures also extend outside their countries. Irrelevant point.

Why do people become scared of this? I really don't kknow. They are just humans with the urge to say some things I don't understand anyways. Since you do not win rugbymatches with tribal dances etc who cares? Where I come from it did not matter a bit. With football we played for one thing: win. Who our opponent was, bigger, stronger, better whatever...We did everything necessary to win. So with some team from New Zealand we would just make kissing gestures to them and laugh during there dance. They wanted to be respected? We would do the exact opposite for sure and this would continue 90 minutes long during the match as well. So scared? No. Win in whatever way needed.
Haka doesn't mean to kill, its showing tribal tradition, if your scared by tribal tradition then dear God how do we win the next war?
@@Emberchariot But he is right. The purpose of Haka dance was to intimidate the enemy before the war. Maori tribe had seen lot of adversities, so one of the men created this to instil courage in the people and fear in the enemy.
theyre energy is literally echoing throughout the whole stadium; WOW THEIR ENERGY ✨⚡️😯👍🏻

So much passion! And such a great honor for the England team to receive!
Is it weird that this amazing performance made me cry?? Could it be the call of my ancestors? I am moved by Haka.
Er no, you were moved by the emotion it generated in you due to a cultural connection, but call of your ancestors? Dead, gone, dust, oblivion, like everyone who's died. No communication with them I'm afraid.
Definitely made me cry too. I am mesmerized. They are amazing!
Bekuska we Maori believe our Tupuna or Tipuna (depending what part of NZ you come from) Ancestors are around us all the time. Sometimes they let you know they are there and sometimes we talk to them and sometimes, we call to them through Haka, chants and by Karanga. So for someone to say there's nothing and no one there, have no spiritual feelings and connections to the past and the ancestors who have passed. You and anyone who have these feelings are apart of the spirit of this earth and our people. ✌
Kina sandwich Thank you, Kina, for your honest reply ❤ sending love
Bekuska you might like to listen to "Maisey Rika Tangaroa" I hope you do, I think you will enjoy it. 🤗
Age old culture in full display despite the world bragging about embracing modernity..... Absolutely brilliant.
In fact both of the helicopter gunship frigates in the NZ naval battle fleet go by the native names of "Strength" and "Authority". in the language of these chanters. Their support ship for supplies and equipment runs back to shore during battles is being replaced by a ship that will be titled the native name for the region as well.
It is strange how NZ is the only commonwealth nation and ex-british colony that embrace and integrate the local indigenous culture. Australia have some what but very minimal, samething for Canada but they did try and America didn't even try.
