- The Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) made a few changes for the 39th running of 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971. One of them was the standing-start in echelon from the previous years which was discarded. From now on a 2-by-2 rolling start behind a safety car became the most preferred way till today. This allowed an Armco guardrail to be erected between the pits and the main straight, greatly increasing the safety of the pit-crews. And now drivers were also permitted to stay in their cars during refuelling.
The ACO received 80 entries for the race, which it reduced to 63 for qualifying, though only 53 cars arrived to practice. And this year Ferrari and Alfa Romeo decided to not take part on the race with official teams. But hey it was Le Mans, everybody wanted to enter. So Porsche was the stronger maker with 917s K and 917s long tail, plus the army of 911s in the GT group. The german brand set a record with 33 Porsches out of 49 starters.
Still, Ferrari used the 512s with customer teams. The North American Racing Team (NART), Scuderia Filipinetti, Penske Racing, all with 512M and Spyders. Even José Juncadella of Escuderia Montjuich had employed Nino Vaccarella as his driver.
In 1971 Matra only had entered for the 1000 Kms of Buenos Aires but now were in full force with the 660 for its F1 drivers Chris Amon and Jean-Pierre Beltoise.
Guy Ligier was there with the JS3 a prototype with a Ford-Cosworth DFV F1 engine. Against the French prototype were a collection of privateer Porsche 908s. Guy Edwards took one spot with his Lola T212. With no Chevrons or Hurons present, its only competition was an older Porsche 907 from the André Wicky team.
Due to insufficient production, Ferrari's current GT car, the 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" had to run in the Group 5 Sports category. Its 4.4-litre V12 put it head-to-head against the Porsche 917s and Ferrari 512s. NART entered a single car for Bob Grossman and Luigi Chinetti Jr. But... well NART also entered another 365 GTB/4 which will be our car for this race. Enjoy!

Again, so much fun to watch. I also took the 365 for a ride on this track, but switched to the 312PB to be more competitive. Nevertheless I enjoyed driving it, cause the acceleration of the 365 is also quiet stunning.
I liked that you really did some more laps, to recreate a bit of this Le Mans feeling. Crossed fingers when you spun with the car. Gladly you could go on without damage.
And strange to read the name Pedro Rodriguez here. A month after this race he died in this terrible crash on Norisring.
Thank you, cooling down after the race, I think I should have taken another car, and the Lola T70 or some Corvette came to mind. Supposedly I was in S5 class being able to battle with 917s and 512s. A setup mistake, with the long gearing? I don'k know. Also I had to edit the brakes ini. Brakes were very weak.
I didn´t want to spin and crash head-on into the barriers because that would break the lights and I would lose a lap limping to the pits for repairs in the middle of dark. I had prepared a pit entry variant just for repair the lights 😉
Pedro Rodriguez had the accident one month later. This was his last Le Mans race unfortunatelly.
That track is really scary at night without lights 😧
Well, maybe some more lights here and there but in those days was close to this.
En 1971 ,pour la 1ere fois le départ n'eu pas lieu en épi, mais lancé derrière la voiture de sécurité. J'étais le kinésithérapeute de la Ferrari 512 de l'équipage Juncadella-Vaccarella
Yeah the safety car was used for starting the race in Le Mans 71. In those days this kind of starting the race was known literally as "Indianapolis type start". Thank you.
Lucky man you were there, privileged witness of racing history.
Hello jeune homme, merci pour ce partage. Un retraité parmi tant d'autres. bye
I like how it went from pitch black night to mid-morning in half a lap😅

Merci :)
Hi, yes all the cars are mods and the game has all DLC.
And yes, all other cars are IA.
@@Racer63. Ok, thank you, you are helping me to choose the game for racing on old Le Mans : GTR2 or Assetto Corsa :D
Where can you get this carset thanks
Nice Ferrari but heavy on the brakes. I had to brake and downshift earlier than competition specially at White House and Indianapolis.
how can i add this map to asseto corsa ? it dont work in content manager :/
Hi, do it manually , just unpack with winzip or winrar and move the lemans70 folder to your content/tracks folder.
