The only difference between now and the 80's is that our parents didn't care about our mental health. we tried to do better by our kids cause we remember struggling alone everyday.

Well, if I'd had something really serious like depression or anxiety from neurological causes it would probably HAVE been more poorly handled then than it would be in a slightly more knowledgeable present. But I'd need to know what percentage of teenaged problems then, or now, truly fit that category. Back then most of the kinds of stresses most of us dealt with were not likely different from those our parents had known in their time, and most probably didn't require or benefit from clinical or chemical intervention. I'm not sure how many of us actually had anything like a mental health challenge let alone crisis. No one I knew in high school, at any rate.
Oh my god, the zoo thing... Most zoos these days are focusing on conservation. Animals at those zoos get top medical care, top quality food, and it does all it can to give them comfortable and happy lives. Zoos in that picture example are probably tourist traps in different countries
And yet they die much sooner as they would normally.

Yes! Thank you for saying this. Some zoos are run down & in need of maintenance, but others are wonderful. & nearly all of them do their best for the animals they care for. One of my favorite places ever is my local zoo. It’s one of the places as child where I was usually happy
This is how I define the difference between a zoo and a menagerie:
Menagerie - oooh cool animals, but in crappy living conditions and suffering
Zoo - oooh cool animals, also conservation, rescued animals, breeding programs, and fancy habitats.
It makes it easier to explain why I like zoos to people who think they're unethical

For the last one, animals in Zoos usually live longer and are being treated fairly well most of the time, while it is still debatable whether it's moral or not, I don't really feel bad for them.

Can confirm, the character in my profile pic is both canonically 14 and canonically one of the most powerful characters in the franchise.
As someone around the age of fourteen, I can tell you the kids at my school say that they are friends with other kids at that school then two seconds later they are using some of the more brutal police interrogation methods on their “friends.”
The one time I spoke up about this abuse I was told to kys since I have no friends, while I was sitting right next to some of my actual friends, and I say actual since some of these kids say they are my friends then blatantly stab me in the face.
I am exaggerating obviously, but still , the only way to get these kids to treat you with minimum human respect, is to ignore their existence entirely until they stop whatever they were doing.
Lol reminds me that back then, kids couldn't stay friends for a week. Especially the girls acted like they were best friends and a few weeks later they hated the other.
This is why people thought my besty and I were lesbians cause we would stay best friends for years *huge facepalm*

I am 19 and this (below) is deep. I wore an actual suit of armor to class today and have done so before, because I love medieval things and the reactions I get are astounding.
People who wouldn't ever consider talking to me come up and give me a fist bump, students and faculty wave as they see me walking by, and my classmates get quite the kick out of it. Without this costume, this... Mask, I am seen as nothing.
Normal me still loves medieval things, and listens to medieval songs. Nobody values that, only when I make a show out of it. Perhaps the reason people go out of their way to be different (in every way humanly possible) is because they are invisible otherwise.
The armor is pretty heavy too, so there's a point to be made on the cost of popularity. If I wore my "mask" whenever I was around people, I would be exhausted beyond belief.
Just don’t wear the costume and actually try to make friends
@@slam.p I sincerely wish I could put aside my armor, but I consider this "costume" and everything it represents to be a critical part of my personality. I'm cripplingly introverted, and my armor is just a physical expression of how I shield myself from things that could hurt me.
The time for making friends is basically over for me, I have had to watch them leave me over and over. I can barely hold on to the ones I have, hundreds of miles away and in different stages of life. Survival, for me, is more important than being buddies with my fellow college students.
I hope you understand, very few people are in the right stage of life and state of mind to just... make friends.

@@crapaudbiscornu7941 I understand that, my armor and the concept of being a knight is just one way I inspire myself to act with kindness and respect to everyone I meet. Chivalry is super helpful to learn, even if it's outdated the concept of bravery and honor stands the test of time.

Obviously it isn't from your experience but I've seen a lot of friendships completely detiriorate because of someone getting a partner. It goes without saying that that doesn't mean "friends getting relationships = bad", just saying it happens more often than it seems

Being impressed isn't the right word. As a musician who's hella picky, you can't really impress me easily by saying hi, or the other things. For artists, I can't easily impress an artist. Hell, I can't even impress my own piano teacher all the time. It's kind of like a thing you earn, not something get by saying hi.
