with a mixture you don't get a sharp switchover like that. you pretty much don't get any methanol until the ethanol is boiling. if you want to separate out methanol without throwing away much ethanol you need a reflux column with a high ratio of reflux, meaning you use a lot of energy as vapor and condensate cycles up and down the column many times. you also need an ungodly long reflux column. so it's a lot cheaper to just throw away more ethanol
Where you are relative to sea level will change that temp by a few degree. Where I am that temp is 173, But yes; I will usually hold the temp at 165 until it stops producing. That practice takes a little more finesse if you are using a pot still.
Collect the first stuff in a spoon and light. If burns with yellow flame it’s still pumping out methane. When the flame burns blue it’s ethanol.
lol that’s a hillbilly myth
@@jaymcbakerk It is true that flame colours
nope., wrong notion

Thanks for the info.. How about boiling at the methanol vapor temp for a extended amount of time. Maintaining that temp not to vaporize the ethanol.
thas what i was thinking

Does a sugar wash have methanol if so is it as much as other stuff what is it that creates the methanol
Everything below 175 degrees I toss.

lmao big words. Great video thanks!
Drain it off. Got it.
About how much does the lab test cost each time to test the methanol content?
i saw a methanol test online that was about $104
I have a 5 gallon pot and figured the first 100 cc gets tossed.
