What a fab video this is Ant! Beautiful Derbyshire scenery & history with the bonus of Martin, James & the star of the show Timmy! I really look forward to your drone footage Ant its brilliant! ❤😊👍🐕
Back in my school days sixty or so years back, we went potholing at Lathkill dale. An ex pupil was a keen potholer and along with the geography teacher. we went to the cave where the river flows out from only during winter months! all the pupils with fathers who were miners bought safety helmets in for us all. We then went down the valley and went into some mines which are now blocked off! Very adventurous.I like watching your stuff especially Derbyshire items as I am a Derbyshire lad! Cromford and the like have always been our hang out!
Martin Zero and James!!! Another great channel and one really worth subscribing to. I've been to Lathkill Dale three times this year but sadly we were confined to the paths as they were felling infected trees. Another great video documenting the history of the peaks. Thanks for sharing Ant.
Nice, I explored all there over 30 years ago as a lad, no fences or gates or restrictions, lots of mines to explore until there was some collapses and rescues, so they gated them up, also abseiled down the shaft and explored it before they fitted the stairs and grills, all overgrown back then everywhere, a lovely valley to explore! brings back memories. Thanks.
Just amazing what you can find if you look hard enough! Enjoyed this immensely - the marvellous ruins, the clear water and, of course, the lovely music. (What's next - Mozart?) Thanks for such a great video.
Great place . Great video full of knowledge and information and wow three famous explorers with their guide dog absolutely love it .. thanks Ant. Martin . James and Timmy
That has been amazing. The amount of infrastructure that still exists really brings the whole site to life. I could imagine men hewing out the stones to make the buildings and the water courses for driving the wheels. Shere magic thanks for posting.
What a great watch, so much history to see. It seems one could spend a week to explore and take everything in, so much history. You three make for a great team, just thinking how about a vid with you, Martin, James plus dog, Darren and Ollie. The title of the vid could be Manchester Madness. lol
24:31 the millstones, possibly the most important find you found, these would have fed the community, where i live, they knocked our local small mill down in the 1990s to expand the lakes, i now have the stones built into my garden wall
Fabulous enthusiastic explore. Loved every second. A beautiful place. Well filmed. Thank you Ant. Great banter with you and Martin and James. Cute little Timmy.
@@TrekkingExploration I grew up with that song, I think I was just starting high school when it came out. As soon as the words came out of your mouth I knew the song and remembered the band. So cool.
I am a huge fan of Martin, James and Timmy and was introduce to you via their video on this. I wish to say that I really like your drone work and the excellent complimentary music. Excellent, well done.
Best vid so far, I've watched most of your walks because I grew up in Ilkeston explored around it extensively. Our family had a caravan and stopped in Derbyshire quite often. You're very good Martin on human geography and industrial history. Super camera work and documentary production for a one man band. Fancy doing video blog going to Ben Nevis from Nottingham? That's on my to do this, I very good on landform and plants.
Wow, das war ja wunderbar!! Manchmal ward ihr ein wenig zu schnell!!...... für mich nur.... natürlich. Und..... Was für ein tolles Team 😂😂😂 Hervorragend lange nicht mehr gesehen. Hoffentlich alle bald mal wieder zu sehen Thank you ❣️❣️👋🏻
One of the great English Chalk streams with trout fishing to die for! Great video. New subscriber. Just taken the boys there for the first time and they loved it. Walked in from Monyash end.
That was fantastic. Lovely to see Martin and James. Just loved all you showed us though but of a shame you couldn’t go in one of the mine entrances. All that stonework was stunning. B thanks for taking me along. Please take care
When I visited Lathkill Dale the other year I only saw the river, had no idea of the history in the area, or maybe I wasn't interested at the time 🤔 great video and definitely will be going back at some point. I was in Mandale group at school can't say that I remember why it was called so.
That shaft at batemans house is part of a network of undergound passages now used by caving clubs and just behind the house is another entrance where they abseil down into the system. As you can see water levels are very high in the footage so the drier months are preferable. Lathkill head cave is also worth an explore at the top of the valley which is also a very long cave system which also gives access in the drier months. I recommend head torch for that one :)
Great to see you get together with Martin and James , love the guys , and another great video again Ant will be going to explore this myself next week , have been there many times but never seen what you have just shown many thanks , just a little foot note the building behind you at the very beginning when you did the introduction used to be an old corn mill i took some photos a while back , all the old oak pit wheel and wallower is still in there and the grinding stone its fascinating cheers keep them coming
@@TrekkingExploration During the summer the river can be little more than a trickle. That final waterfall in the video is made of tufa basically dissolved limestone deposited by the river. I've stood directly under it when the river was a lot lower. If you'd continued further up the valley towards Monyash you would have come across Lathkill cave where the river emerges after heavy rain. Great video. You and Martin make a great team.
Great stuff! Amazing how they harnessed water power for industrial purposes back in the day. Seems a rather remote location, so I wonder what forms of transport were used.
Amazing! I follow both channels. Both are grand to watch. Two for viewing time as one. A great adventure today as always. Cheers Ant, Martin & James plus the puppy! ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Hey Ant - Have I got the right Channel??? - You've got Martin & James with you!!! Also when you go into those small Caves - you ought to be wearing a safty helmet to that you don't bump your head!!! Very good - thanks for sharing!!! 🙂🚂🚂🚂
Maybe you've been there before but I think you missed a trick by not going up as far as Lathkill Head Cave where the river dramatically gushes out of the cave during wet weather.
@@TrekkingExploration ha ha, in dryer weather it doesn’t happen. After a month of torrential rain wait for a day very soon after and walk down the valley from the Monyash end. You will be impressed.

Thanks very much Paul
What a crew, the Three Musketeers plus dog. Just got coffee, time to watch.....
Perfect, enjoy 😊
@@TrekkingExploration Resurrection of 'Last of the summer wine'. Which one is Compo?
Lovely shots of our wonderful history. Stone and water, with a bit of lime and wood mixed in, making power. Made Britain 🇬🇧 Great.

So much history just lying around, thank goodness we've got you to sniff them out for us in your usual enthusiastic way👍👍👍👍👍

The river Lathkill usually completely disappears underground during the summer months due to mineworkings.
I thought i'd read that somewhere. I bet its crazy after heavy rain too
