Before our Constitution we were having almost every acts Like - Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, Transfer of Property Act, CrPC, CPC. These laws were framed by Britishers, So don't get confused that we were not having any laws before our constitution came into force. The only thing happened after constitution came into force is that these acts were amended where it was required to do so. (Check Chapter 3 IPC you will see many amendments there) Plus we were also having Government of India Act or 1919 and 1935 etc before our constitution which used to act as a Fundamental law or we can say as a Constitution.
Section 9 says that words importing the singular number include the plural number, and words importing the plural number include the singular number.(Until the contrary appears from the context) For Example - If somewhere the word "person" is written then it not only means one person. More than one person will be included there.( Words importing the singular number include plural number) And if somewhere the word "persons" is written then it also include one person (words importing plural number include singular number). Section 32 says that - The word "Act" written in this code not only means Act but also include a illegal omissions. In this code the punishment can be given to any person by doing some act and also by doing an illegal omission.
