- On this Episode we take a look at my take on the "Perfect Orient Mako." We examine a modded white dialed SAA0200CW9, as well as a blue USA II and Ray II. With the addition of an in-house hacking and hand-winding movement movement, Orient's Mako/Ray line has really stepped their game up. Now add to that the Mako USA spec and you get Sapphire crystal and solid end-links, in an even more original to Orient design aesthetic. Even at the current specs and pricing, I felt there was still a little room for improvement. The Yobokies coin-edge bezel, made specifically for the Mako/Ray line, allows use for any standard sized SKX bezel insert, to include the fantastic DLW SKX-style ceramic insert shown here. Additionally, adding a bracelet with an increased tapper, down to 18mm at the clasp opens up a few more solid claps options, while adding comfort. In the video we take a look at a few options ranging in price range and difficulty to source and/or install, let me know which is your favorite in the comments below and/or what your "Ultimate Mako" would look like, thanks guys!

Very cool mods. I recently had the pleasure of getting a white dial Mako USA 2. I like it a lot and just ordered a blue dial version.
Sweet mods, really like the white Mako USAII and that Ray II
These Orient mods are great. I would recommend the Strapcode Endmill bracelet to finish these pieces. The Endmill would match the way the rest of the watch pops. The oyster style bracelets are too common, and a bit plain compared to these modded looks. The Endmill would stand up to what you have done to bring them to a new level. Cheers.

Results: Orange Make "1" with Strapcode endmill bracelet and a yobokies coin edge bezel with stainless steel insert (like shown)
Black Ray 2 with Strapcode solid endlink oyster bracelet and double dome sapphire from crystaltimes. (I like the stock
bezel with the DD crystal, the edges line up flush and the crystal continues the angle of the bezel perfectly.)
They look and feel VERY different from each other now. Handsome and Chunky vs Smooth and Refined.
Before anyone asks I got rid of one of the Makos to make room for the Ray 2.
Got a white USA II coming in the mail, can't wait for it! I also think it's probably my favorite out of these ones as well. However, I do love a domed crystal a lot more than a flat one.
You made 3 really nice watches that white one is so sick. I have a blue orient 2 with the coin edge bezel a full lumed Pepsi bezel and the double domed ar crystal it’s on a solid end link jubilee bracelet.

The blue with SS insert is my favorite.

I wanted the mako usa because of the sapphire chrystal. I have bought a Seagull Ocean Star instead. Sapphire and solid end link bracelet. I love it.

I bought Mako 2 because of the shape of the bezel. Look slick and gives the watch a lightness because is tapered shape.
This mod ceramic bezel looks like milion others which I`ve rejected because are so heavy because of the flatnes.
All watch looks like Big Mako.

Bought a Blue Ray 2 earlier this year. LOVE IT! Except for the bracelet that I replaced with a miltat bracelet. I just found out about the Orient USA models, and now I want to purchase one of those. But I want to be able to replace the bezel with either a Pepsi style if I get the blue face Orient USA or a Black and Red Coke Bezel if I get the black one. do you know of any replacement bezel mods out there that are of good quality?

Hi! Great mods. Thx for showing the Yobokies bezel insert. It opens ton of options for modding. For the Ray2 mod could you share where did you get the Double Domed Sapphire chrystal? Does an SKX007 sized chrystal fit the Ray?

I would like that mod for usa ii white. So I saw a pro saturation bracket on ebay but how would it attach to the lugs? The bracket ends look flat even, no staggering links. Would be nice if you did a vid on how to and maybe links to the exact one you used for the white one. Sounds to me like you did 3 different mods on the bracelet alone.
Quick question, the bezels and the bezel inserts that you use, are they designed for Seiko SKX and can use them for Orient Mako? Or did you find them specifically for Orient Mako? I am looking at bezels and majority of them are for SKX

I put a 20 mill bracelet on my kamasu makes it look more like a vintage watch and used the end links that came with just different slimmer bracelet it's so much better looking and I need that darn bezel cause I have the seaweed green dial and a green bezel insert for it

Hi man, do you have any idea if hollow endlinks made for s Seiko SKX will fit Orient Ray 2 lugs with a bit of bending... I got a strapcode supposedly for the Ray II but it does not fit at all, so I have rushed and ordered 22 mm end links (oyster style) from Watchgecko... The inner link will fit on to the strapcode bracelet (99%) but I am still unsure if the endlinks will be moldable to fit the Orient properly... (I know, I know... I just have to wait for the delivery and I will know... But still... Lol)

Basically this is what I understood from the video..
Take off the endlinks off of your original orient strap.. do the same for the skx aftermarket... Now you have endlinks off on both right? Now put the orient original endlinks on that strap you bought (skx aftermarket) is that what you mean? I hate the stock mako usa ii bracelet and if it works I will be down to do what you did. Thanks

Aren't the cases of the Mako USA different than the Ray? ie. the pin location relative to the case body. Is the Mako JDM non-drilled vs. drilled for the Mako USA?

What's the thickness of the double domed crystal?
Depends on the company you source it from. Me make it as much as 16mm thick. This is why I went for the flat with AR. The Domed is very 2018 IMHO.

Orient Porn! Very nice, each and every one. I only have a new Ray 2 but regrettably have used up my current budget on fripperies like these things - it'll need to stay stock, or maybe till the crystal get marked up and I can persuade myself to splash on a Sapphire replacement.
One big grouch for me with this watch. The crown is too slippery - and when screwing it in/out, it's horribly gritty-feeling. Feels like something's rubbing in ways that should not be happening... I'd be inclined to buy a cure for the stem grittiness over a cosmetics mod. meantime...
