This is common sense stuff for people who actually know how to drive. Other people, not so much. Most people are too busy staring at their phones.

I always treat the highways as the autobahn. So naturally I try to have as much lane discipline as possible and there will always be someone faster than you

Same. if I'm going twice the limit I still get over.

    My additional tips and tricks.
-Don’t be the fastest. Let that Altima blow by at 85, you stay at 80.
-Left lane camping is both annoying and making yourself a target. I never got a speeding ticket in the middle or slow lane
-Don’t be stupid. Doing 90 in a 65 is obvious, not to mention dangerous, and could get you called in by other drivers
-Radar detectors work, but unless you’re laser jamming you’re still at risk

You get drivers calling in speeders? thats insane! In europe you can easily do 25 over, its like a slap on the wrist.

I usually set my cruise at 65, in the right lane, so much more relaxing.

One issue with speed today is that the cars today are more capable then the average driver. Yes, people can push even a small econobox to 100 mph today. But, when something happens like needing to swerve around an obstacle in the road, this is when people get into real big trouble because at 80 or more mph, people's reactions are too slow and next thing you know they are crashing. In Florida, there is a pile up every day on the major interstates. In most all cases it is due to excessive speed and tailgating.

thats because in Florida people are doing 100 mph in heavy traffic lol

100 in an economy car is thrilling. 100 in a performance car is pedestrian. 100 in traffic is stupid as hell. Not being able to top out a performance car anywhere in the state… well. That’s Ohio.

2 tips that will save you thousands. 1. When possible, find a shield car...one that is going fast that you can stay behind and show your intent by staying a few car lengths behind them so they don't pull over 2. Always keep the app Waze running in USA and Canada to get RT warnings about speed traps. The interstates and expressways are filled with speed traps but with these tips you can drive safely and still enjoy some speed.

My biggest pet peeve is when a bunch of people blow by me going 5 over just to slam on their brakes and cause congestion when they see a state trooper on the median.

9 your fine 10 your mine. I ride 15 over and stay out the left lane, when I see blinds spots I coast down. No tickets in years.

Having cops coming after to give you a ticket is weird concept for me, where I live ,they just photograph you and send ticket later, we can't renew road tax if the tickets weren't paid.
I hope some day they do that in the US, it is safer to not do traffic stop or chase as most of the time, speeding isn't the problem. It's speeding then not leaving distance, going fast round blind corner or distracted driving that are the bigger problem.

Yeah that sounds like a surveillance state. Not that the US isn't one, but if they started putting speed cameras everywhere they'd get shot out, and for good reason.

On 75 mph roads, I tend to cruise around 60 MPH, or 57. I have slow reactions, and also going that fast saves gas.
In California here I tend to go about 55 miles per hour. But if there is a sign saying a minimum speed will make sure to go at or slightly above the minimum speed.

Slightly concerned about getting ran into by a distracted driver going 80 in a 70, when I'm going 55 or something, quite a big speed difference. But it hasn't happened yet, or even came close yet. @@MetalTeamster

I should add, going 55-57 MPH, I have averaged 55 MPG on the freeway. Overall my car has averaged 49.3 MPG over the last 8,880 miles.
The EPA of the car is 39 city, 42 highway. But my light foot seems to drastically change that.

It's got to be extremely rare to get stopped for speeding simply for doing less than 10 mph over the limit on a highway. If you encounter a cop just temporarily slow down to 5 over and you will be fine.

  • @8307c4
    @8307c4 4 месяца назад +1

It would do you a far bigger favor to learn the laws in your state and how they pertain to the DMV's points system, because where I live 1-9 mph over the speed limit is a lower class citation than 10-19 mph over so clue: The cops in my state can and will pull you over if you're 10+ over the speed limit but if you're below that they usually leave you alone.
That said I limit my top speed to 63 mph because of fuel economy, also I usually travel within +/- 5mph of the actual speed limit.
