I am so blessed i came across your channel. As someone who is learning this is very helpful. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit i believe i can reach a higher level in my piano playing
I watched this video sometimes back and recently I was playing those riffs and I count tell where I got them. Today stabled in the video again and it is now giving me firm foundations of the source. Thanks for this boss
All these parts work so beautifully… thanks 🙏 I’m a guitar player… musician and songwriter and singer and producer … it’s so important for everyone to play their part and coming together it’s very moving musically and also in the Spirit Less is more
Years ago the father of one of the inner city kids that our church tutored weekly was shot and killed. There was no one in the city to do the funeral, so we were asked if we could handle it. I was asked to do music and said yes but warned them I don't know how to do gospel style music. So we were in pre-service and I was playing my "straight" hymn and chorus arrangements on the piano; then I hear a booming voice reciting Scripture from the back. I looked around and saw a beautiful, big, robed black pastor processing down the aisle while reciting the Scripture. I thought, ok I can go with the flow. Then I looked over and saw a young black man slip onto the organ bench. I knew enough to know what to expect. Hooray! I quickly finished my song, looked over at the kid, nodded and smiled. He smiled back and then we were off. :) This young guy was awesome and made that B3 sound like a heavenly instrument and the funeral was beautiful and moving. I LOVE gospel but have no idea how to play it. (If you want inspiration search RUclips for Cory Henry on the organ!!!) Thank you, Isaac, for giving me some beginning tools for moving up a step in my playing. Thank you, Sunday Sounds, for highlighting this inspiring player. Blessings.
@@verbotenco Why does it matter if this is impressive to me or if I would like to learn from this guy? Maybe this is where im at in my music journey. Like a lot of people, im still learning, and I learned very unorthodox, self taught, by ear and my own research on music and theory. This is literally a "beginners guide" to this kind of playing so idk what you're confused or surprised about.
@@AngeloJSeanTorres116 It is not a problem unless you use the term 'masterclass'. The dude is not a master, he plays major scales in a church...come on...
@@verbotenco to be fair just because you see him only playing major scales that doesn't mean he cant do more he may very well be a master pianist. just saying.
If I may say to help others who are also classically trained, what you're referring to as "Riffs" in this video, are referred to in written music scores as "Grace Notes" (decoration notes) and/or "Trills" = small super-scripted notes just to the right and above the "Principal or Main" note, or a "Sideway 8 or Infinity symbol in Math" above the Principal note, that indicates playing a few "linear, fore and back, or circulating looping" quick notes, to end on the principal note. 😉
Not quite.. Grace notes/trills/ornaments can be found within these little melodic blocks called riffs, also called licks. In other words, the trills and/or grace notes within gospel riffs are elements that make them up, rather than those elements being the riff itself, if that makes sense. Example: I can do a ii - V - I riff, but not a ii - V - I “Grace note”, or “trill”, because those are elements within the riff itself
so good! This is helpful for me as the keys player at a multi cultural church. I've been wanting to incorporate more gospel flair but didn't know where to start. Thanks David, Isaac and team!
Sunday Sounds and Isaac Rodrigues, thanks for all the great lessons and tips. 👍🙏🙏🙏 Despite I have all the classical piano trainings from my young age to 40+ years of VOLUNTEER services in a few big churches in Canada, in choirs as singer and accompanist, worship pianist & organist, and as keyboardist, bassist, drummer who also sing backing vocal in multiple worship teams in last 20+ years, I'm still learning something good from you guys for my serving to God, and to pass along your good tips to my younger fellow worship teams members. 👏👍🙏 Kudos to you guys and may God bless your sharing to benefit many👍👍👏👏🙏🙏
Thanks so much…I appreciate this coming now… you’ve earn yourself a subscriber… I love the sound it gives whenever you strike that black note.. was really searching for this.. please do more of this with some couple of songs on the key of cmajor
Another tips to help newer pianists in playing these Trills notes fast and evenly, is to keep your playing fingers "curved" (like holding a baseball with your fingers, not straighten out) to play with the front tips of your fingers, playing with fast action from your 3rd joints of your fingers (in front of the knuckles) while keeping the 1st and 2nd joints curved. 😅 This way the fingers can develop good pressure control on the keys to even play more advanced piano playing. 😅
Hi there! I am trying to figure out the easiest way I could program an automation in Mainstage that EQ a piano patch so it starts with almost no high end and over time the filter opens up. Do I need an external DAW to be able to do that? Thanks! Your channel is life saving for live keyboarists :)
I love the way you play. I like to learn, but it's too fast to catch. It would be so helpful if you can go slower, n showing only Right hand, also. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Amazing the fact he say that people shouldn't be doing this riff all the time, i know a pianist that does this every freaking time he do chords and it sounds ridiculously bad and annoying
I play at my local church. Confident with the little I know but I still have a long way to go to get here. God bless these brothers
Me too. I can relate.
I've been playing for years, but RUclips channels made me realize I still have a lot to learn.

I could listen to Isaac play all day. Oh, and he’s a pretty great MD too.

Wow! There's this riff I've been looking for over the years...just got it now
..thanks to y'all
I need a masterclass from this guy
Are you kidding? This is very basic, rudimentary level piano typical in kids early music education.

Riffs are like triplets. They are a series of notes played that have a unique rhythm and sound that adds flare to the melodic progression.
