Thanks for the video! Just put all your links in a folder, right-click the folder, and "open all in new tab group." That's the workaround I use to save my tab groups.
If you have multiple windows running, rather than using X to close out of Chrome, use 3 dot menu > Exit. This will close all windows, and when you re-open, ALL windows including their respective tabs and tab groups will be restored.
I also recommend an extension called Session Buddy which saves all your sessions (sets of windows and tabs) automatically, handy when Chrome fails to restore them occasionally.
I was looking for a way to save groups and on top of finding a great walkthrough I found someone who also loves Resident Evil! Lol I was so happy seeing that shirt 😄😊!.
Fantastic video, Chris. Like you and many others, as my workday progresses I'm opening more and more tabs. Within a few hours - or at the end of the day - I discover a cluttered mess of open tabs. This instruction video you've made has saved me so much time and frustration locating where I was at after each of the umpteen times I am interrupted during the day. Thank you so much!!
Very helpful feature to organize multiple tabs. Another workaround to get back the closed group is CTRL + SHIFT + T. Would be better if Chrome comes up with the Pin Group feature. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this. After Apple's announcement yesterday of their version of tab groups on Safari, I just had to have a look for it on Chrome. Just hoping Chrome gives us the option soon for saving the group tabs like in Safari's future roll out
For anyone ending up here, know that you can know save and hide your tab groups. This video is no longer needed. But making Chrome start where you left off by default is still a nice tip for other reasons.
Thank you! It is crazy that you can't save tab groups. That (to me) would seem to be the entire point of them and therefore where the value is. (I suppose you could argue that bookmarks would accomplish the same thing, but the difference to me feels like tab groups are more regularly used sites while bookmarks would be things you want to find at some point later.)
Agreed! I'm so annoyed. I saved a bunch of tabs in a group for my work research, assuming they're now saved somewhere like a bookmark. I could also see them in the restore tab recent history. Fast forward 24 hours, that group is gone - some 4 hours of valuable research wasted.

Great workaround to save tab groups! Unfortunately, my organization has locked that setting. However, I will take advantage of this on my home devices.
They need to save the groups in a dropdown option somewhere on the bookmarks bar. So that we can close the group but still have other groups open in other chrome windows and/or so that we can quickly select a group and it pops up on the screen in front of the others. It's still so cumbersome but a start to a great feature to have.
Thanks for the workaround... I wish it wasn't necessary... how hard is it just to have a "save groups" option for Chrome? Unfortunately, most of the time when Chrome closes, it's due to an error, and I don't necessarily have the option of being on the proper page, the one with my "Manuscripts" tabs. But, your workaround is better than the nothing that Chrome is offering right now. Creating tab groups is *half* of a good idea...
@@ChrisMenardTraining , still "save groups" looks obvious for me but I doubt will be added. Currently I have like 5-6 Chromes and each of it has like 5-15 groups.
