In this week's vlog you will see the interview that I did with Hans Weekhout in his studio in Amsterdam.
Hans Weekhout is a Dutch musician, producer, engineer and music teacher. In 1993 he had a big club hit with his track "20 Hz", which came out under his alias "Capricorn" via R&S Records.
In the interview I'll talk with Hans about "20 Hz", his job as engineer, his work with Prince, about the book he wrote and more...
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

I hope you get more exposure because the videos are both educative and entertaining!
Thank you! I hope so too haha ;-) Glad you like the videos, hopefully more people find them in the near future :)
Not sure how I had never heard this song until 'Tokyo Vice'. Now I'm hooked. Those snare(?) hits have OOMPH
oporto swing underground clube at Porto in 93 open many times the night with this masterpiece. Sound system was incredible ( it was a underground floor) and this music there bring great moments to my memory!
I keep a copy of DJ Chus' bootleg edit from 2005... I don't even think it was credited as being from DJ Chus, he probably used some other alias ("Muchodrums" maybe)
There's a bit in this Documentary dedicated to this Track, Documentary is free on RUclips..."Sir Henry's 120bpm full film".
I used to play this in 93 when it came out. Huge track, so great to hear the back story. Thank you, love your videos.
Thank you! Always happy to read when people enjoy the interviews!
I remember when it went out, it was something really unique, and still !!
I’m 25 years old and Idiscovered this song a year ago in a club in Portugal. The sound experience was brutal. a classic track from 1993 breaking the dance floor in 2020. my respects
allways some on this music remenber me brasilian Music Samba.. when drums start!
I truly believe it to be one of the greatest techno tracks of all time. It's amazing - there was nothing like it before it and nothing like it since - it is truly unique. It was a huge hit in the underground scene in Toronto, Canada and holds a special place in my heart. A wonderful interview with great questions all answered so well from a living techno legend - thank you.
Thanks so much for the feedback and the kind words!
Do you have a Patreon or any other mean for us to suggest questions for future interviews? I would have love to ask Hans about Taiko "Die Blechtrommel", was it just a blatant copy? was he aware of it when it was released?
Yes I do! You can find links to my Patreon / PayPal etc in the video description. Patrons can indeed suggest questions for future interviews as well (and win signed CDs!), plus get new videos before anyone else. Thanks to Patreon I’m able to keep doing new interviews, so all support is very much appreciated! 😊
Big hit in Italy too! Thank you for these great videos. Each time it's an unexpected surprise, as if you were bringing back heroes from a mythical time!
Glad you like the videos, thanks so much!!
Gaaf!! Lucky you!
humble chap, love it
Great interview. 20hz was a landmark track. The first time I heard it I remember thinking, "What...THE FUCK..is this!?. Bizarre to hear Doop and Hokus Pokus are the same people too. Talk about extreme opposites.
Thanks Mark! And indeed, such an original / unique track, very ahead of its time! And indeed, Hocus Pocus, Doop, Boobytrax are all Ferry & Garnefski (and they're part of Peplab too). I know Ferry is still active in the music scene. Should I try to do a vlog about Doop? hehe
muzikxpress I think you'd be run off the internet if you did a Doop one. Hocus Pocus is another matter though. Bow Chi Bow and Here's Johnny were absolutely huge in the north of England when they were released. Would love to know more about those. 😁
Haha, I still like "Doop", plus it was a big hit in many countries. I know "Here's Johnny" was a #1 in Australia for a few weeks. Maybe I can do both, let's see hehe... Would be cool to get to know more about both tracks I think. These guys did so many great tracks and remixes! Loved the Ferry & Garnefski Remix of "Slave To The Music" by Twenty 4 Seven; massive!
Memories
One of the great club tunes of the 90s, got into the Rave scene way back then, those days can never be replicated.
This is one of my favourite tracks from the time I was a club dancer in Club Exposure in The Hague, DJ Remy played it often.
Oh wow, how cool! DJ Remy, another legend!!
@@jeroenscholten7193 hoi Jeroen!
In 1994 I was a regular at club UK in Wandsworth London. It was a legendary place….in the two years I went there every weekend pretty much. And this classic got played one time and the entire club roared as if it was a final at Wembley. It was a stunning e moment that I will never forget…
Please
Please tell me, the bells at the start did you take this from Badu Batucada feat Regina? Or they if you as both song sound exactly the same.
You mean the background music I used for the vlog? That's "20 Hz". If you ask this to Hans, you should reach out to him hehe ;-)
No ways!!!
This track blew the sub-woofers in my pick-up truck!
The woofers were not even a week old!
I remember when I started clubbing (underage) and I heard this track the 1st time... Man!!!
Currently looking through your vids for Jam & Spoon - Right In The Night ft Plavka!
I actually do have plans to interview Rolf (Jam El Mar) about "Stella" later this year ;-) Glad you liked the interview with Hans. I always loved "20 Hz" and because there is hardly any information to find about Hans and this track, I did contact him for an interview. He was very enthusiastic and I'm really happy with the result :)
@@muzikxpress Thank you!
wow, that is amazing that you’ve mentioned so many classic tracks! didn’t expect to see this one
thank you for what you do❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Basic equipment..😄
Loved this remember being the first person in the techno tent at tribal gathering just looking around watching people running into the different tents
paul candy I’m still very happy Hans was willing to tell the story behind “20 Hz”, what a track hehe... glad you enjoyed it!
@@muzikxpress just seen your channel just watched the rozella one be watching a lot more great channel thanks
paul candy Thank you very much! Lots to come in the next weeks, hope you’ll enjoy it!
Groetjes, keep up da good work! Mvg, Sebas Jonkman
I am curious who did the "vocal" 1, 2, 3 in this track.... Hans himself and then changed the pitch or something?
Hell of a tune always remember loads of people going round the club (The Orbit , Leeds) going round like army drummers lol
Since hearing this in the clubs in 93 I've always loved it, but never known what it was called or who created it.
Today that journey of questions comes to an end. Thank you :)
What a brilliant track.
Love this track. My 12" still gets played at parties.
My memory of this track is from legendary Edinburgh nightclub PURE at The Venue, in 1993. That crescendo effect in the track just used to bring the place to another level, with people on each other shoulders, all bleary-eyed, jumping all over the place, sweat dripping from the ceiling, laced with all the mood enhancers and adrenalin. Such sweet memories.
Really informative interview. Keep up da good work!
Thank you very much! I was a bit too young myself to go out by the time it came out, plus I live(d) in a small village, not close to the big cities with all the cool raves. Bet it must have been amazing to experience all this new music live in the clubs, lucky you ;-) Glad you enjoyed the interview! :)
I can remember hearing this track on a dj mixtape but never knowing the name of the track. So I took the tape to a record store in Birmingham called "Hard to find records" and they played it over there sound system. Then loads of people came forward asking what this song was. Eventually we found out the name of the track but the store only had a copy of the remixes
Ah nice one! I used to buy from HTFR online as well back in the day!
@@muzikxpress Ozzy Osbourne’s son Louis was the manager there

Dank je Marcel! Wat een track hè? 😊
Really enjoyed that 👍
Love the track and your video's..... Thanks again Twan :)
Thanks a lot Thijs!!!
Hans , i would very much like a REMIX by you of 20Hz ! Can't wait to hear it ! Go for it !
I don't think anyone can make a worthy remix of something so perfect, may be Ajja
the man behind the legendary 20 heartz, magic
Hope you enjoyed this rare interview with him!
@@RHINOSHIT2010 haha great! I’m still happy Hans said “yes” when I reached out for an interview, such a nice guy!
I´ve just discovered your videos this week and loving seeing the interviews. Congrats from Campo Grande, MS, Brazil !!!
So an amazing guy. Love 20Hz. I actually have my copy signed by him
Ah nice! And same here, he did sign mine too after the interview 🤓
@@muzikxpress Such a gentleman
Awesome as usual!
Thank you Niklas!
(((♥️)))
but italian subtitles when itvwill comes?
Sorry I only speak Dutch and English. If someone can provide Italian subtitles I’m more than happy to add them.
@@muzikxpress and who can do it for us? :) what a pity ...more interesting your channel
@@rox2099 I don’t have a budget for getting translations done. Muzikxpress is just a hobby for me and the little budget I have is being used for camera / recording equipment and to cover a part of my travel costs when I’m doing interviews. Unfortunately I don’t have a sponsor or big budgets. So if you know a volunteer, feel free to let me know 😉
@@muzikxpress like tells the titles of Mohikana ( a 1993 tune track) ..."I will find you" 😅
Eva Simon - that's a big deal!
Yeah true! Oh, Eva Simons also did tracks with Afrojack, Sidney Samson, R3hab and of course plenty of great solo tracks as well.
Am I mistakng or Am I guessing
/gettng it rght about my assumement that ; Capricorns Hz20 is largely used in the track, "Plastc Dreams" by Jaydee and/or n the track 'Give it Up" by the Goodmen Houseparty V.
Thae reminds to drop a request some assistance / clue"s/ awnser on my quest => searching a/the track, best described as a Mash-up/remix of all three tracks, as described above, put all three together into one Track.
I sort of tought there was something in the name of the Title of that particular Track...., Like: crazy Drums{boyz ?}, Drumwar ....?! and perhaps even the number 10 in some form.....??!
thanks and Grtz
Paul
No, the track itself isn't sampled in any of the tracks you did mention, but I guess since you are Dutch (same here hehe) that you know the Turn Up The Bass Megamix of 1993 and in there 20 Hz is mixed together with Plastic Dreams, plus I have a feeling they added some extra drums taken from "Give It Up". So I guess that's where you got confused ;-)
Thanks for the quck responds .
Any tips where to find some unique remixes not necessarly those of an Hour or more rather like to find some remixes/mash-ups --->Back to Bacck 2/3/4or even 5 tracks/records of different Artists/Dj'S. Like: Euythmics VS Pat sharp Boys VS DJ. JEAN or Gipsy Kings VS DJ Ramirez VS DJ Gregor Salto VS Patrck Hernandez. this prefered in a knd of way non-standard remix,..noho,... rater a bit more '.....'orginaty''....eh gosh, ...Uuuhhhhmm maybe even some funny stuff.......///!!!??///
Thnx & Regards from Tilburg

Yes, I wanna interview Ferry & Garnefski (or at least one of them) in the future for sure. Still got 4 videos to edit, 2 new interviews, so enough to do for now haha ;-)
No plastic dreams and The Goodmen Give it Up both came out in 92......Capricorn was sure inspired by the Goodmen even though he doesn't admit it.....in this interview he was asked what was the inspiration for a reason! :)
