And Summer, good grief. One of the best voices in the history of American popular music. Large, ringing, wide-ranging, sometimes so damn exciting ("MacArthur Park," "The Last Dance"), sometimes so moving ("On The Radio"). AND a sound as sexy as the woman herself. May she rest in peace.
'I was working with my old friend Robert Guillaume. He and I went back to my Vienna Volksopera days when the two of us worked together in 'Porgy and Bess' - Donna Summer. From Germany to America or vice versa and back again. Real talent, these two. R.I.P.
He really had a wonderful voice! You can hear the theatre training in both. So in the character of Donna to let him shine here on her special. Two great talents. Beautiful. Rest In Peace.
Fun fact: Robert Guillaume was part of a folk trio "The Pilgrims" that put out an LP 'Just Arrived' in the 60's for Columbia Records. A then unknown songwriter recorded a demo of a song meant for the Pilgrims but when the producer heard the songwriter and his partner sing it in person he gave them a contract and had them record it themselves. The songwriter and his partner were Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and the song was 'The Sound Of Silence'.
@@LoreleiMission Wow! I would have loved to have seen that performance! He was extremely talented and the world only saw a mere glimpse of it. He went from portraying a drunk on the series "Good Times" to lieutenant Governor on "Benson" to "Phantom of the Opera." He definitely made his mark. However, many people didn't know the extent of his talent.

Guillaume's voice was much larger and richer than Garfunkel's. And that's not to denigrate Artie, another splendid singer. But it is to acknowledge the difference between a light, very lyrical tenor and a darker, more dramatic one singing the same great song --

May they both RIP, although according to this, Robert actually reversed aged all the way back until 1017 A.D. @3:28 Still, loved this and wonder what episode of what show this was. Never recalled him acting with Donna Summer, would've made sure to have seen it if I had known..
Fun fact: as part of 60's folk group called The Pilgrims Guillaume came very very close to getting first crack at recording Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound Of Silence.
I believe he was the first (or one of the first) black Phantom in Phantom of the Opera as well (a few recordings are on YT but not many unfortunately). I wish he had done more singing, his voice is beautiful
Robert Guillaume was one of my favorite actors. Love me some Benson and Soap. I know some actors can sing but I never thought he would be one of them.
Donna was singing casually, and Robert was belting. It was great. I wished Donna recorded this song solo.
I miss his face, his laugh, his jokes, but I never knew he could sing like that, beautiful!
This is a revelation to me I'm ashamed to say all I knew about him that he was Benson what a wonderful voice

Awww I take it he passed. So sad. He had a stunning voice I never knew about.

stampyourfeet-So true!
A powerful tribute; God bless Mr. Guillaume's and Ms. Summer's legacies of excellence.
Fantastic actor and singer. And the ever beautiful talented Donna Summer
R.I.P Donna and Robert, two phenomenal performers. I had no had idea he could sing.
Holy cow, what a sound!
Never dreamed of anyone else who could sing this except the fellow sang with Paul Simon but listening to his version, bravo! I love it.

Absolutely Outstanding!!.....And I still can't believe Donna left us so soon
What a voice
Robert most definitely did a wonderful job here; I would suggest watching his role in Phanton of the Opera. Fantastic voice!
I was surprised that he did Phantom, I liked his interpretation. His voice fit the Phantom well
I was so lucky to see him live as the Phantom. Fantastic!

That was so beautiful 😍
Legendary
When at 2:40 Donna reached that long note and easily she could go
if the song needs it!!!
They both worked it Vienna, at the Volksoper.
A beautiful performer, his voice still resonates. A great actor and amazing singer.
Excellent performance! RIP Sir Robert Guillaume-You have made your mark! "well done thou good & faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21)You're Home!!!
Lovely!
Treasures . RIP . 💐💐
RIP to both

A true Broadway baritone, I think, and a much better voice than I remembered him having from Guys and Dolls.

Вот это дааааа !!!!!!!!!
Must confess I thought this was going to be a bit cheesy at the start but… wow.
Jesus who knew Robert could sing?!
