Always look forward to Nigels analysis and opinions. What a legend and he's missed in the game, he commanded respect and could also give and recieve some banter. Even as an English fan and i know it's not possible but if Nigel was to ref a game between Wales and England, you'd still trust him to referee the game fairly and honestly, that's the sort of man he is.
Hi Nigel, I think I speak on behalf of all Rugby loving supporters, & players who have grown to know & appreciate how much you have dedicated yourself to this wonderful game, & who thoroughly looked forward to watching you refereeing in the sound knowledge that, whatever the final result, be it for their team or the opposition, that all those tough decisions made by you were, without doubt, going to be the correct, unbiased, & regularly delived with your inimitable Welsh sense of humour....even bringing a smile to the faces of the toughest wrongdoers.
And for all of that, charismatic Owens decision making, I know we all wish you all the best in yer new life as a Cattle breeder...& a long, happy & healthy & wealthy retirement.
The best of luck young Owens from all of us over here in the Emerald Isle.
"Diolch am fawr" Nigel.

Oh, I almost forgot, we put it to a vote & think that yer new Bull Calf should be called....
"CAELAN"
.......after the "Doris" fella who's the Irish #8 & hopefully their regular captain, who's built like a BULL, but under it all, he's really just a big soft hearted fella.....like most Big Rugby Players.
So CAELAN we hope....& that's NO B.S. oops 🫣🤫
That dog sneaking under the gate and into the paddocks in the background lol
The bull calf has(!) to be "Christopher...!"
Was going to say the same as I am a Chris! :D
Hey Nigel,
Considering the yellow card the Irish captain got for the croc roll in the second test, why do you thing the Safa players were not pinged for the croc roll they did in the ruck in the first test?
Because Rassie Rassie RAssie is in your heaaaaaaad heaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddddddd. Thats why.
@@skellator4848 rassie who got outmanoeuvred by Farrell - 3/4 😎
@@Frankabagnale33Yes, Farrels great plan to send his players to deliberately hurt and take out our players. Anyway, 🏆🏆🏆🏆 says Rassies better.
@skellator4848 True, but he's in your head even more, an entire nation gaslit into believing every decision is against them despite all evidence to contrary which really helps when they lose because it's always someone else's fault and not (usually) the kickers.
@@wot4922 okay 😎😎
Doris was also no longer on his feet so was no longer part of the ruck which is also an infringement and a professional foul.
That Bobby V tackle where the player gets a bloodied nose. I watched the replay of the tackle and its Valentini's wrapping arm that follows through and pops him on the Welshman on the nose. It was accidental but still didn't understand how they didn't pick that up.
The croc roll incident is baffling to me. The ref penalized number 8 because he was the "first offender". So does this mean that other players are alowed to dive into rucks and go off feet and get away with it just beacsue someone else committed a foul first?
When Nigel Owens says 'The other player can count himself fortunate because another day another official...' and 'I don't think there can be any arguments if it would have been upgraded to red card' that means he politely thinks the officials got this one wrong and we would have seen a yellow and red if he had been officiating the match. *takes off mind reading helmet* We miss you, Nigel!
Brilliant analysis Nigel
Just watched Keo and Zels who are full of admiration and respect for Irelands performance. Their exact words were, ' They did to us what we normally do to other teams' so there you go!
Just curious, if the “croc roll” is deemed illegal and outlawed from 1 July, shouldn’t that be a straight red and sanctioned from now on moving forward. The player on the receiving end picked up an injury and is out for 6 weeks. The same going for the “late or could have stopped” tackle the game before that ended up with the one player picking up a concussion
I am a big fan of whistle watch and love your insight and fairness ❤. In honour of the Celtic ties between our nations and linking in with this week’s episode, how about Caelan Doris or just Caelan?
"A croc roll is when you grab a player and croc roll him to the ground". Brilliant explanation.
What about that offside against Ireland where the Irish player didn't even touch the ball?
Yep. Tapped back to McCarthy by the Bok chaser. I think the TMO tried to correct it. While Pollard was lining up his PG kick you can hear the ref saying that he can't hear someone - presumably the TMO trying to tell him he's a muppet.
Thank you for a wonderful programme. My question: What is a Captain's Run? Many thanks. Chris Botha, Cape Town
Dan Carter, Caelin Doris and Cheslin Kolbe could all be good bull names with a C 🐂
Carter? Do you want a bull that's a goat?
@@HiltokI see what you did there
@@randomlyfactual1943Sexton just entered the room and quickly left.
Hey ref! Thanks for the videos.
A bit of a specific one here: during the french argentina game there was a situation where there was a yellow card given to a french player. Then after that the tmo comes in to call out foul play on an event before the french player's infringement and they decide to award a penalty to the french. Should the yellow card have been canceled since had the referees called out the argentinian foul play beforehand then there would have been no french infringement? Or is it considered dangerous play so the yellow card stands anyways?
Thanks again for everything
A
no the yellow would stand, dangerous play is dangerous play regardless of who should be in possession or what happens beforehand
Fair question. teocarre4026 has the right answer. Did you also notice that the Irish ref failed to give a YC when he awarded Argentina their penalty try.
@@Hiltok unfortunately i didnt get to watch the game cause of work :( but that sounds about right given how inconsistent refs have been recently
@@teocarre4026 He got distracted because there was a bit of pushing and shoving immediately after he awarded the pen.try and it took a little bit of time for the refs to get that sorted out and calmed down.
How do you submit questions to whistle watch, please?
Love the analysis Nigel …still the GOAT of referees!
The gift of 3pts for what shouldve been a sa knockon was pretty rank
Chabal for a bull's name
Or Jonah?
@@mirandahotspring4019 Nigel said that the Hereford society designate the first letter for bull's names each year and this year it is 'C' hence the suggestion for Chabal. Presumably Jonah will have to wait for 2032.
The 1st drop goal looked like a kick and not a drop
I rewatched that several and in slow-mo and have to agree it looked very suspect. I would love to hear Nigel's comment on this.
The drama in Durban was quite something yes,
but,
the Irish definately fought fire with fire in a most remarkable fashion that Test Saturday
So, hats off to them

Some possible names for your bull calves... Campese, Cheslin, Carter and Christian Cullen ... Creevy (who sometimes forgets he can speak English), Contepomi... Chabal... Chiliboy's a great name... and on a historical note, Craven and Currie.
Thank you for talking about the U20. France has won the last 3 editions and plays the 4th final in a row. ❤
Hey Nigel. What are your thoughts on Frawley's 1st attempted drop goal, that was not a drop goal at all? Ball dropped directly onto his right boot without touching the ground.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Name for a bull starting with C: Surely it has to be, CHRISTOPHER!
I wonder if Nigel Owens is planning on raising props on the farm. Isn't it there where most of the worlds best props come from. Os and Ox are good examples
I think he likes the Farm Boys more like it 😂❤
The best props come from France.
*Checks notes*
Sorry, I mean, named _Frans_
Given the ’Dark Arts’ of the Front Row & that the Front Row offences are a mystery to most, when the opposing Tighthead & Loosehead Props of an extreme height difference when in their ‘Crouch’ stance, which Prop compromises their stance to allow the Bind & Set? Does the taller Prop bend down or the shorter Prop bend up? If there is a height difference, is it the team who is putting the ball into the scrum that dictates the scrum height?
Ireland was clearly the better team for the second game and it would have been a travisty if the last drop goal wasn't given. But this thing where we all pretend that criticizing ref decisions is only because you are a sore loser really irks me. Nobody wants to see ref errors whether it's for or against whoever.
The game has become so chaotic with rules being applied inconsistently that almost every game is a controversy. World Rugby seems to think that applying even more rules will fix it but I suspect the opposite is probably true.
At this stage every outcome of every game is in dispute in some form and it can't be good for the sport
Dickenson needed to ask the TMO about the Kolbe dive... but for the Mc Carthy penalty for a offside after a knock on that was shown not to have touched an Irishman and thus was a very important 3pt mistake. He could brush off the TMO trying to intervene with "sorry i cant hear you"... Im glad it didnt cost the game.
The marx injury was way less severe than it could have been I hope he recovers soon. Glad to see the crock roll now a penalisable offence
I've been watching you since the start from Sonora, Mexico. I haven't seen one program where you had anything but grey skies while I looked out at sun and blue skies. By the way, the oldest football (soccer) club in Mexico, Pachuca, was founded by Welsh miners.
The bull calf should be named “Chastity”.
Kolbe slipped. Yeah right, of course he did🙄🤣
Huge respect for the man, but when will he disagree with decisions? They aren’t all correct.
"C" has to be for "Christopher !", and the "!" is obligatory because it clearly marks the intonation of the voice when called
Look at that drop, the ball didn’t touch the ground
Except you can clearly see the AB’s player underneath the maul which brings it down so the first penalty is actually a penalty try, it’s clear and obvious! Look, I hate the TMO, just let the ref decide but if we are going to use a TMO to get the right decision but we get the wrong decision then why on earth are we bothering with it, it’s just ruing a once great game.
Always insightful & definitive
Hi Nigel. Congratulations on the great whistle watch videos you make. I would call the next bull “Chabal “ after the great French bull 😊
Did anyone notice that the first “drop goal” was a direct kick ? Check the replay in slow motion-mo !!!
Keep saying it like every other saffer, won’t make it true. Biggest cheats in the sport
@@ashleigh3021 The clip you sent refers to the second drop goal, which was legit ! I referred to the first one. How are the South Africans the biggest cheats in the sport ? Show me one rugby player who does not try and get away with breaking the rules - 🤗🥴
boo fkn hoo😂😂😂 in all the after match analysis i watched nobody brought this up. there is an angle of the first one that shows it clearly hit the ground. both hit the ground. granted not as hard as colby hit the ground at the end though 😂😂😂
Breaking somebodies leg is not a Red card?
A note for Whistle Watch on balance: Focusing on one 50/50 call that went Irelands way in a series in which almost all others went the way of South Africa only fuels the false narrative - held by many supporters since Rassie Erasmus generated it - that World Rugby / refereeing is biased against South Africa. Many comments here reflect this. As well as the Doris incident, the video should have also explored one of the calls in which the hosts came out the better side of it.
It's got to be Cowan-Dickie for the bull starting with 'C' 😅
Very good as always.
Look at the scrum at 63" SA prop drops to ground first, why is this a penalty to SA?
Having played club rugby up to the age of 34, I think it's crazy that games can be decided on a 'hunch' and who gets the penalty.
This lottery needs to be made an indirect free kick because a large percentage of calls are a guess or who has got on the right side of the referee.
Same way Porter won penalties in the first game by illegally pulling before the scrum sets. Dark arts.
Nigel you should obviously naming these cows after rugby players! For your bull: Cullen, Carter, Castrogiovanni
YES CROC ROLL IS A RED CARD...MARX IS OUT FOR 4-6 WEEKS BECAUSE OF THE INJURY CAUSED BY THIS CROC ROLL...AND A 6 MONTH SUSPENSION FROM RUGBY MEANS THAT PLAYERS EILL THINK TWICE OF DOING THE CROC ROLL..
The bulls name is Crossley.
Someone seems to agree with you very loudly at 3:45 😂
Why aren't you showing the Kolbe incident from the other angle where you can clearly see Doris leaned to the left.. The Croc roll resulted in Marx now has a broken Tibia
Always the victims 😅
Bru, I’m a Saffer like you, just let it go. It was a quality game and series, with fans of both sides creating great memories and friendships - let’s not split hairs and fall out over what if.
The fact is that Kolbe was going to ground before he even made contact with the Irish player. Cheating, pure & simple.
@philipmccarthy6175 He slipped😂 Fracturing someone's Tibia is cheating😂😂 Disgusts me that Irish are even defending that behaviour. Not surprising though, anything to win
You assume it was this incident that caused Marx injury , has Marx confirmed this ? . He got up and played on without calling for the medics
Have to laugh at all the saffas crying 😂😂😂 you dont see the irish crying after being robbed of a series but its only a game guys. Rugby is the real winner
World Rugby, are you gonna ban drop goals now?
Is it just me or does Nige look really hungover in this one?
Great analysis as always though!
Marx literally has a broken leg because of that roll. Both irish players should have been carded and both need to see minimum 8 match bans. Doris shouldent have even been reviewed it was a straight red. Ryan should have been carded but not sure if his as bad and egregious as Doris who intentionally tried to injure so i would have been fine with a yellow
@@Forest9528 lol
The Boks fans in these comments are embarrassing. Relying on a red to win again huh? Just take the L and move on
As a Bok fan, I agree with you completely. But it is not just the Springbok fans to be honest. The number of Irish fans here saying Snyman should have been red carded last weekend, there was a croc roll on Kelleher before the disallowed try, and other such BS in a game that Ireland lost....
Sadly, it is what we have come to expect from global fanbases, not exclusively South African ones. Just ignore them, savour the win, and discuss the merits of the game with people who don't blame every loss on the referees lol.
Congrats on the win! It was a bloody good game. Don't let the bleating spoil it for you.
Oh yes, because Irish fans didn't complain at all the week before when they lost? 😂😂😂
So how would you card a player who broke the opposition's leg with the help of a teammate?
Dumbassery and bias all around the desperate Irish supporters, just go lose another quarter final already and shut up
Get this man a whistle
Were you being polite describing Colby's "slip " or was it the kind of dive we have seen in every match of the Euros football ???
Doris moved towards Kolbe the Slip is irrelevant numb nuts! Old Nigel the Farmer won’t show you this! Cause it’s controversial
Flagmen should stay out the game.!!! Bloody busybodies like old woman. Shout and push players around, and interfere with the decision making.!! Officials are trained to be negative towards the players and keep them under NEGATIVE surveillance for 80 min.! They go out there way to find something to punish them..! And the bloody silly laws they get punished by. Locks arms touch, adjust hand to bind, blown offside 20/30 meters from play. Why have a ref,if 5 others interfere. Poor TMOs,takeing sides to help there teams. The Ref,MUST have the last say on the decision making. Not the TMO.!!!!
The officials avoided controversy, buy keeping it at yellow.croc roll in the Japan match was a red card.
In this case it was actually worse coz two players were involved. Marx now has a broken fibula. . Again no consistency in officiating. What else is new.
And guess what its always against the boks. Surprise surprise.
And if we complain about our players who literally left the field with a broken leg and fractured Tibia, we are called out for always playing the "victims"
@@nicholas8390 Meanwhile they moan about not being awarded illegal tries. Horrible fanbase.
Every marginal call went in favour of South Africa in the first test. You're not victims or persecuted. Toughen up and grow up.
@@decekfrokfr3mdx Yeah sure buddy. How about the half a dozen scrums that weren’t properly officiated? Ireland were getting away with murder there and yet you didn’t see us complaining.
nigel love your input thz
I don't understand how that Doris card wasn't upgraded to a red, that was the most ridiculous croc roll I've ever seen with the second player coming in and completing a SECOND ATTEMPT at croc roll by the irish on the SAME RUCK. It also led to Marx fracturing his tibia bone, quite frustrating to watch this and then two games back Fassi got yellow carded for landing with his foot up deemed as dangerous play..
Yes indeed the only Rugby being played wasn't in the Southern Hemisphere, Scotland played Canada and the United States so I wonder why they're ignored ? NO SKY PICS ?
World #6 playing #18 & #21 isn't the same as Top 10 matches. Whoops. Wales are now #11.
Was there much chat on big rugby social channels about the reffing in Scotland's matches? The 73-12 win over Canada had how many contentious calls? Was the 42-7 win over US swung by the whistle? Maybe there were more interesting calls to talk about in the closer contests played in the SH.

I do like the comments about Colbe slipping. I think the word you are looking for is diving!
Name one Ciaran (Love Island tribute!) 😂

This is very strange that the TMO does not see the truth and use the angle as excuse for poor decisions!! Back to school guys ! No doubt in my mind !😮

Jip Malcolm Marx out for 6 weeks with a fractured tibia. The question now was it because of the croc roll or another incident? 🤨
Rassie said it was the croc roll, I didn't see Marx involved in any other play that could have done it
If that was a island nation player definitely red card
Nigel you are perhaps underestimating what happened in the Kolbe incident. RG Snyman was impeded at the left hand side of the ruck and at the right hand side Doris stood his ground but changed his shape slightly bumping Kolbe. Both of these were not picked up by the TMO. We saw no evidence of the TMO reviewing these incidents in any detail other than a quick confirmation that all was OK. Pieter-Step du Toit did not see the Kolbe incident and was within his rights to ask for a review. Whilst this was happening two Irish players ran up to du Toit and shoved du Toit and the referee did absolutely nothing. I will be posting a video tomorrow looking at the incident. In the end Ireland fully deserved the win but I would still have liked for the officiating team to have taken more care in reviewing the final play. Well done to Ireland in squaribg the series. You got my respect.
South africa team misses the robot man they can only function if theres a robot .
Cant wait to watch your video Rassie
@fireball6302 man relax, it's called Rugby incidents. No way should that drop goal be overturned. They were all well entitled to stand their ground. Good hard game is all it was
Was you saying the same things why Snyman should of got a red last week? Or the disallowed try that was a clear neck roll on the Irish player before his leg took the ball out of the ruck for the disallowed try ?

Broken legs? What are you babbling about lmao
SA vs Ireland: 2nd test: 1st dropgoal. The ball didnt hit the ground before the kick. Should the points for this dropgoal have been disallowed ?
@@yeladim10 if you go to sky sports highlights of the game and slow the speed on the replay of the angle behind the post. You can see a single frame of the ball hitting the ground before frawley puts his boot through it. The live angle doesn’t show that because his boot comes around and through the ball so you never see the bottom of the ball make contact with the ground. But it definitely does.
I must admit it also seemed to me that the ball didn't hit the ground for the first one. In such cases i'm sure the score wouldn't count but what happens next, i don't know.
My word, ye are bad losers.

Nigel Owens sitting on the fence as customary rather than calling out the match officials for a series of shocking decisions and failing to deal appropriately with foul play as World Rugby have directed for the illegal croc roll by both Ryan and Doris that has resulted in serious injury for Marx. Red for Ryan and yellow minimum for Doris. Total cop out.
Nigel is clearly on Irelands side
Most of rugby are against South African cheats.
The Kolbe slip was milked but there is another angle from behind the poles that clearly shows Doris leaned into his path. Doris got away with that as well.
Maybe it was the luck of the Irish on the day.

Why did you not talk about Andrew Porter repeatedly pulling no 3 down after two games? The only times he didn't do ot was when the ref stood on his side 😂
Again NIGEL is paid by world Rugby to do this! He won’t show the real truth!!
Kolbe took a dive. Very charitable of you to say he slipped!
So how many times have you been to Durban? How much rugby have you played there? Do you want to know why Nigel Owens thinks Kolbe slipped? Because Nigel Owens actually have been to Durban and refereed several tests there.
So remember Pollard slipping in his own goal area? Almost cost SA a try? Remember Faf slipping 5 meters from the Irish goals? Remember all the knocks ons everyone was making?
Doris had the right to go stand in the spot. There is no rule in rugby that prohibited him from doing that. Everything he did was allowed by the rules as they are written now and judging by what Kolbe did in the world cup, this was a fantastic play. However, Kolbe had the ref in front of him and then had Doris occupying the line towards Frawley. He either slipped, or bumped into Doris (who again, was under no obligation to move out the way).
Besides, why would Kolbe, one of the fastest rugby players ever, do a dive when he has a legit shot to get his body in front of the ball?
Our guy went to block the shot, your guy stopped him from doing so in a manner that is legal.
Tell people you know nothing about international rugby without telling people you know nothing...what an absolute bellend.

Refs too scared to follow WRU rules on the croc rule and Ireland should have had one Red and one Yellow card during the game. Why bother outlawing something when officials won't act on it.
Why are world rugby doing this questioning the referee and bunker not right showing less confidence in the referees and bunker especially if you appoint them
The referee had clearly already blown the final whistle he was then accosted by SA players to check for a supposed block (nonsense) despite no TMO intervention or him seeing anything.
How is it legal for him to do this after he had already blown for full time which you can clearly hear the first time after he blows for the good drop goal.
