I bought a victron inverter because of your reviews on it. I got involved in the software development and now I work for them. So in some way it's because of you. One of the things I work on occasionally happens to be the testing of new batteries and the canbus protocol. I'd love to give you more info if you need more for a video.
Hi Izak, interested to hear more about your testing with new batteries using the canbus protocol also!
@@swinters3369 Well, it works more or less like this. Victron already supports a large number of batteries, including their own Smart Lithium range. But the bread and butter of the company, of course, is its line of Multiplus and Quattro inverters. If there is a compelling commercial case -- in other words if it sells inverters -- you can contact the big guy, and then someone from R & D (sometimes me, sometimes someone else) will put the battery through some basic paces, just to see how it works and how much of the protocol is supported. If it works well, the required settings is documented in the manual and it becomes a supported battery.
But as I said, you need to make a compelling commercial case for it.
The protocol that is used by most of these batteries is thankfully very similar, so quite often it does not take a lot of work. The protocol isn't even Victron specific: If memory serves, SMA came up with the first iteration, and it simply became the defacto standard.
@@izakburger1580 Hi Izak, in a way I am the same as you, but on the hardware side, i fixed a victron inverter and been sorting out inverters since, just wanted to check re the can bus comms on victron systems, do you know if the can bus protocol from the Seplos battery is 100% compatible victron in terms of charge control?
@@dewald2069 I would not be able to say. I have never even heard of Seplos. But Google does tell me it's another battery from Shenzhen. Easiest is to connect it to one of our GX devices, and use candump to see what it sends (if anything). If you see 0x351, the odds are good that it's sending charge parameters.
@@izakburger1580 hi Izak, thanks for the reply, I have a venus gx connected to the battery, works well with the system, but just have an issue with the charging, this is new to me, how do i use candump on the gx to see what date the bms is sending?
Nice. Looking forward to the information as you learn and share. I picked up a couple of the GroWatt 3000 inverters a couple months back but haven't had the time to install yet. Thank you!
Parabéns pelos vídeos.👏👏
After 3 APC UPS failures, I switched to PSS branded Chinese UPSs. They're working fine, and one quarter the cost of the APCs. Once the R&D is done, any price above what the Chinese are charging is pure branding, and I have no intention of paying quadruple to fund some CEO'S yachts.
Interesting but here I am just going along for the ride and its all about learning as much as possible.
Learning is Fundamental. 😎
Great video on the state of the inverter and battery market. It seems China is way ahead of the others these days. I believe Voltronics makes the Aexpert King, MPP Solar, and Growatt inverters. I have two of the MPP Solar LV6548 in a configuration very similar to what Will Prowse is using in his garage. I also just purchased some seplos products, as they emulate Pylontech, and it seems the Growatt and MPP Solar leverage that protocol, so direct connect is possible. Thank you for this very informative series, and also thanks for helping me choose my HAM radio! Your in depth vids are awesome!
Howsit Martin!
An autotransformer is absolutely supported by Victron. It is mostly used get split phase out of a single phase 240V inverter, it is well documented on the first page of the autotransformer datasheet.
I can't believe that distributor didn't know that, truly painful.
MPP solar, LV 6048 Hybrid. Does it all (split phase and/or single phasae, etc.). Working great for me.
I am very interested in your solutions to connect them together and communicate probably.
I have bought a few weeks ago the seplos bms circuit for it self and use it with 16 Chinese lifepos.
Connected to a growatt spf 5000tl hvm p inverter. I didn't imagine that the inverter talks about rs485 and the bms CAN! So I am verry glad to find your channel couse there are no other infos on web about this combination. I am keenly awaiting your sequel. Thanks a lot for your fantastic channel.
Hi M J L can did you use a calibrated dimmer switch for the lamps without the chokes?
If im understanding you correctly to make the seplos batteries usable the canbus is required to be connected to an inverter? No way to use the seplos as just a simple plug and play like a drop in battery? Do you have a link to the next video
Have you considered splitting the 120V and 240V loads so that you can have one inverter dedicated to 120V and another dedicated to 240V?
I played around with all type of Leadf Acid, AGM and LiP04 until I settled on my current setup. Four 5.2kWh (20.8kWh total) Tesla Modules can be had for $4k off of eBay with the battery management board and in my opinion the cell, fit/finish and quality is superior in every way. My main breaker stays off. I use my EVs as a dump load from March to November as I have far more power than I need.
Just wondering if you can do a review of this nifty little power supply I found? Toolkitrc p200. I think it would make a really nice benchtop supply.
Off Grid Garage is testing LIFEPO4 batteries. He uses a BMS with a contactor!
WOW! The big boys in inverters better wake up, or they are going to loose big time to the Chinese guys!
Really interesting about the "support" that you got from the name brand guys (or LACK of support, that is!).
I have solar (Solaredge inverter split phase 5Kw), but have always wanted to add/replace with a battery backup, even though my power is pretty reliable, so not a big deal.
It is just nice to see how these companies don't want to help.
I am looking forward also to hear about your Leaf as I have one also (2018 SL), and all the things that you have discovered about it.
Thanks for posting!
Hello, Can you help me with some info about CAN communication between Semplos BMS and Growatt SPH5000. There is no communication and growatt dont use my batteries. Only if i select lead-acid i can use the batteries.
Grit blast will give you a frosted finish on glass.
I am having the SAME exact issue... With my battery and Victron. Battery has bms but no idea if the battery has CAN capable RJ45 port.
😂 my go to is always voltronics Axpert and any number of white labels and incarnations of their product. Pylontech batteries and custom build software to tie them all up. Off grid for 3 years now, fully self sustainable including charging my EV , and guess where this is .... your homeland 😂 thx Eishkom
Growwatt is quite popular here for same reasons, well documented, affordable stackable expandable for any combination and purpose. If you up for it I would not mind looking into integrating those two components you selected with my software controller.
Did you need a diode to protect the circuit?
Tell me about it.. nightmare for me trying to set up my SMA Sunny Island inverter with AC coupling and Nissan Leaf batteries😒
I can't believe you have never heard of SMA? They are the best!
Funny I repaired a small (1600w) growatt solar grid-tie inverter today. It failed after 2397kWh, 6200 hours.
Isn't Growatt the biggest inverter maker in the world for private houses ?
Support works good at least in europe. Pretty reliable products, no fans, runs and works for years.
SPH is a good series, that works as one phase pretty good, but avoid the MINI and SPH *** BH-UP cause they do run highvolt batteries , I mean 100V and then the real 350 to 500V batteries
How is it that there are 11 comments and no views of this video ??
how does that happen ???
Etch the glass.... thats the way
A cheap Ebay $50 sand blaster will do the job possibly......if there's an airline handy.
Victron makes great stuff but they are not perfect, and they really need a US split-phase package, and a 16S BMS.
You can create split phase using two Victron inverters same for 3 Phase using 3 inverters.
You can build split phase systems or even three phase systems using multiple units.
