Made one trip to Baja. Beautiful area. We stayed at a hotel on the cliff overlooking the Pacific. Also drove up into the wine country and visited some vineyards and bought some of the local wine. Big mistake was going into TJ to visit one of the bars. Got the shake down from two crooked cops. Cost me $150 in "fines" to get out of that pickle and will never go back. Very dangerous these days as I'm sure you are well aware.
Another place you can find gold and be totally alone is my home state of AK. My grandmother used to pan for gold up there and had lots of it in little vials. Closer to you would be the mother lode country along hwy 49. There is a creek and old mines near Coulterville where people do a lot of gold panning too. Might be an interesting day trip for you some time.

That area has a population of maybe two dozen people in a ten square mile area. Really cool spot but yes Mexico in general is a little sketchy these days. It helps to speak a little Spanish and know the areas to avoid but it is always a bit of a roll of the dice. Alaska is well known as a great gold spot, kind of a long trip to get there but at least the cops won't clean out your wallet eh?

Hello, from TJ there several gold bearing areas within 50-100 miles south and east. El Alamo, Sierra Juarez etc. They are all described in my book, The Gold of Northern Baja, link below to purchase on Amazon. The book is in English. thanks!

    Hello Jens,
We live in Tijuana and are driving down to Bahia Concepion next month, would like to prospect for fun while we camp on the beach. Trying to learn what to look for or where to dig so we have some chance of seing a flake. So far the plan is to dig and pan on the bank of any stream we can find close to camp. Any pointers or suggestions on videos that show what to do? Thanks.

Hi Mike, I have not logged in to RUclips for a month, and today saw your message as soon as I logged in. I have not heard of Bahia Conception as a gold bearing area. Generally speaking it is best to look in places where other's have found gold. There is an abandoned mine near the end of Punta Conception, hard to get out there and I think it was a Manganese or copper mine ?? but sometimes gold is associated with mineralization zones that contain other metals. Pick a dry arroyo, dig down to bedrock or a layer of caliche,, screen dirt through 1/2 inch screen into a bucket. Best to do the panning in a tub so silt does not pollute the water. Gambusino Tours has some good vids, in Spanish, though all in Northern Baja. good luck!

Hi Rick, ha ha , I do not put out the location of my "secret spots" on the internet. I am interested in a trip south of Ensenada later this summer when the border opens up if you want to partner up, would be nice to have two vehicles in case one gets stuck.
