Exciting to see the two of you out painting. Great plein air set up Joe. Love the side attachments for brush cup etc. Enjoy the beautiful Montana scenery.

Very nice location and painting. I'm not familiar with guache (not my medium), how does it react to rain and snow when it starts falling during painting?

Gouache is a very convenient medium for plein air. It is opaque water color that dries very quickly, usually within minutes. You can easily paint over areas, without wet-int-wet. You can reactive the paint with water to blend areas or soften edges. When you are finished, you can easily store and travel with the painting, since it dries within minutes. It is very easy to clean brushes with water. And you do not ruin brushes if you forget to clean them. You can always clean brushes days later. But, gouache is not good in rain or snow. Since it is a water medium, rain will ruin a gouache painting. And if it is snowing... the water might freeze making mixing on the palette difficult. I recommend trying gouache. It is lightweight and fun. Usually inexpensive since small tubes. And I paint on basic papercolor paper. Worth an experiment!
