Growing up poor in Bonito, Italy, Salvatore Ferragamo began his career as a shoemaker before he was barely a teenager. Immigrating to America in 1915 at the age of 16, his work would soon help invent the glamour of Hollywood’s silent era as he created shoes for iconic films including The Thief of Bagdad and The Ten Commandments and for stars including Gloria Swanson, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks, many of whom became his friends. Overcoming a Depression-era setback, Ferragamo rebounded and would define mid-century elegance for performers including Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, and Ingrid Bergman - all while embarking on a love story and warm family life with his wife, Wanda, and their six children.
In SALVATORE: SHOEMAKER OF DREAMS, Academy Award©-nominated and BAFTA-nominated filmmaker LUCA GUADAGNINO (Call Me by Your Name, A Bigger Splash, Bertolucci on Bertolucci) tracks Ferragamo’s life from humble beginnings to California and to a storied studio in Florence, Italy. With Emmy©-nominated actor MICHAEL STUHLBARG (Call Me by Your Name, The Shape of Water) narrating Ferragamo’s 1955 memoir; a trove of 100-year-old archival footage; an extraordinary “shoe ballet” created by stop-motion artist PES; and incisive commentary by MARTIN SCORSESE, MANOLO BLAHNIK, CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN, Vogue Creative Director GRACE CODDINGTON, Variety Film Critic TODD MCCARTHY, WANDA FERRAGAMO and Wanda and Salvatore’s children and grandchildren, SALVATORE: SHOEMAKER OF DREAMS is a portrait of a man whose vision, passion, and craftsmanship made him “shoemaker to the stars,” an architect of Hollywood magic, and an enduring cultural, fashion, and artistic influence.

My luca hype train has started again.
My favorite shoe brand🤙🏻. A lot of people buy Nike sneakers, but I prefer mine ferragamo😎
My father never had the most money, but he always told he always walked around in Ferragamo shoes. He had 4 pairs and wore them for years. Soon I realized why he loved them and why SF creates better shoes than Louis Vuitton, Prada Etc. I picked my first pair up on sale and was instantly hooked. About 80% of my shoes are SF, and i would not do it any other way. They are pure comfort, style, elegance and luxury. I always want to learn more about them
Salvatore was a Creative GENIUS! Finally a movie that tells the story of his creativity, courage, discipline, fortitude, persistence, integrity, faith in himself, family, and God. He is my Guardian Angel of Choice!
So beautiful 👌🏽This documentary feels like it will be so engaging on the big screen comparatively to the small screen 💓
Yes
This feels like such a cool trailer! So beautifully shot 👏🏽
Think you mean edited?
These shoes look so beautiful.
It’s an amazing watch! I watched it in a flight to California actually. Though I forgot my headphones with the aux jack, I ended up playing my own music instead of the movie audio, then added subtitles. I played Lana Del Rey’s - Brooklyn Baby - song while watching it. Let me tell you, it was the most majestic piece of art. Iykyk
I love, love Luca. It’s as simple as that.
Pure Inspiration
I love this trailer
Sony Picture Classics makes great documentaries
I hope they make these types
One about Senegal in the Olympics
One about Youssou N’Dour
About Burkina Faso in Hajj
About Prayas Foundation
About kid geniuses in high school or college
About Parnership For A Drug Free Singapore and much more
I’m very interested about the Senegal in the olympics topic as well as the one regarding Burkina Fasso and the Hajj.
Do you think that a drug free Singapore might have negative effects sometimes?
@Emilio Bello, if you haven't seen it yet: you might be interested in the beautiful documentary "Youssou N'Dour: Return to Gorée" (You can find the movie trailer here on RUclips)
@@lainieturner3400 I was worried my comment would be unnoticed
@@bayersbluebayoubioweapon8477 there’s a company about that. What rating should any of these docs be?
Cool! Yeah these could be good documentaries
Today is November 12th, 2022 and I cannot find this documentary in any movie theater in San Francisco, California. Any information on this?🤨😤😡
I finally watched it in a movie theater in San Francisco and loved it.👍🏼
I'm very skeptical of these sort of documentaries, they always feel like a mix between marketing and honest documentation with a heavy penchant for the former. It comes down to a lot of compliments heard over and over again without real information.
Take a look at who wrote it!
I’m interested.😊
this looks good
How do films like this get the greenlight? Makes you think about who controls Hollywood, doesn't it?
Sussie Menkis is still around??????
