No computer animation in the early 60s; so that took a lot of skill for some animator to draw Alvin's reflection bouncing around in the wobbling Jello.
@@SteveCarras I agree, although I think Simon and Theodore gained a bit more personality in the future 1983 series, in this series I feel like the two have less defining traits to truly make them stand out outside of their physical appearances, but that's just me.
Even with computer animation. It's still possible to animate a jello reflection if you concentrate on it (Not saying that i know everything about it. But i don't remember a "Computer animator" making this skill easier)
That was a common trend of the time. The funniest is when you saw the commercial breaks in between Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, and suddenly Bullwinkle is animated way better lol.
This aired in 1961, at the time General Foods {Jell-O, Post} sponsored "THE ALVIN SHOW" in prime-time on CBS; this commercial was filmed and shown in black and white, as the show originally was [the network wasn't telecasting ANY color programs, so viewers had to wait until the series was syndicated in full color in the fall of 1965].
I might not have been born in the 60s (1993 is when I was born) but I do love the animation of the 1960s Alvin Show. In the late 80s, I heard, they changed the look of the Chipmunks which is kind of disappointing.
When Jell-O sustained the show, this was the sponsor I.D. ALVIN: "'THE ALVIN SHOW' is brought to you by....{Chipmunks start spelling out the product's name} J-E-L-L......" DAVE: "AL-VINNNNNNN!!!" ALVIN: (exasperated) "O......kay!!!"
I saw this on RUclips like a month ago and On tv yesterday they had a jello commercial and they jello commercials from back then and they showed this one and my dad was like see why I hate them and I'm like no cause I love them and my dad said there inyoing but I told them there cute and funny point is he freaked out and it goes to show that they are popular to be shown on old jello commercials
With all due respect, as a lifelong Chipmunks who watched their show when it fist aired, I can assure you the original Chipmunks are FAR from "adorable" and MUCH more effective at annoying others (particularly Seville).
It’s because when the Chipmunks were first made in 1958-1961, Pitch shifting wasn’t available so Ross Bagdasarian Sr. (the creator) had to talk really slow when he talked like the chipmunks and he speeded it up on a tape recorder
the animation in this is so good!

That animator you are referring to is Bobe Cannon, known for working on the Looney Tunes and directing Gerald McBoing-Boing for UPA

Aww! They are so cute! :3
The animation in this commercial is significantly smoother than the actual show.

I love the Alvin show I have the DVD of the original episodes it was so cool although I wasn't born in the 1960 ' s but still pretty cool☺
You'll want to seek out more episodes on RUclips, 16mm film prints and TV airings of the ones not on DVD are popping up here on RUclips [thank god]

John Erwin As time went on, this type of formula start to get old it got took over by new trendy things that would shape our modern cartoons
Alvin is the oldest but he's so short
The boys didn't have an age order in the original series.
the eldest doesnt matter how short ir tall you are
He prob used to be a midget but got surgery to be taller
Alvin was the youngest in this and now he’s the middle child he was never the oldest that was always simon

I believe Ross Bagdasarian {"David Seville"} wrote the song for Jell-O...

How is it that this has better animation than on the TV series?
Maybe the sponser came with a budget? 🤷♀️
Probably because more money is at stake.
Alvin with Jello in it.
