slot machines have maximum payouts. They're even required to do so under some jurisdictions. If your machine is rated to pay out a max of 1000x bet and the max bet is $10, then its impossible for it to pay out more than $10,000. So as security if you look at a machine that can't even pay out a million then of course you see 7 digits and rule it as an error.

The Confederacy as in the first one was definitely a malfunction, anyone with a shred of common sense could tell it was. The 8 million dollar one and one million dollar one probably also a malfunction. Maybe a slight chance they weren’t. However no, no payout
The machine didn't actually "malfunction".....there obviously wasn't the specified amount of money the machine the customer was playing on was holding....

We left there and never went back..
About 10 years ago, the reel strips weren't indexed (aligned) correctly on a machine, and a losing spin ended up being a $10000 winner for me. Not a malfunction, but human error. Casino verified it.
Developer here. The software is vigorously tested and has to meet the highest standards and meet all government requirements and regulations. This is definitely NOT a malfunction and the plaintiffs absolutely have a case
No. Only megabucks can have a jackpot that's around the $40 million of the first case, and the 8.5 million of the other woman's example doesn't make sense either. And as further proof of that, Norville says at the end how each jackpot was above any possible max payout that that machine was programmed to ever give for a spin.
Also a developer. The $42m is clearly a 32bit unsigned integer underflowing. The machine calculated the winnings as -20 cents. The winnings went into the negative, showing max value - 20cents = 4294967276 cents. She didn't win 42m, she "won" -0.2$
@@strategygalactic they would all be on the same code then meaning they all "malfunction," when technically its acting in accordance to its programming.

wether it malfunctioned or not it doesnt matter, the person hit jackpot anyways, give them the max ammount those machines can give out, dont leave em with nothing when they were told they has the biggest price
If a casino security guard comes up to you and says a machine is broken before they even have the time to take a close look at it, thats how you know the machine is supposed to be rigged to never give out a jackpot. Thats the only way they'd know instantly if its broken is if it gives something it was preprogrammed to never give.
This reminds me of a story about Pepsi giveaway that took place in Russia in early 2000s: if you purchased enough Pepsi products and provided a proof, you would have been invited to a promo stand in a shopping mall, where there was a car and a bowl full of keys. You had to pick one key and try to open the car lock(ancient times of mechanical car locks)- and if it fit - the car was yours. Nobody could win until one guy came and... actually opened it! And guess what? He was sued for cheating because ALL THE KEYS WERE FAKE AND NONE OF THEM WAS SUPPOSED TO UNLOCK THE CAR
It can be pretty obvious if it malfunctioned. If a machine has a jackpot of $10,000 and they win more, it malfunctioned. Also the first woman's one was 100% a malfunction. The largest number that can be stored in 32 bit unsigned integer is 4,294,967,295 and she won 4,294,967,276 cents. Essentially the machine let her balance go negative by a few cents and since an unsigned integer can't be negative it loops back around to the highest value possible.

They knew it was a malfunction because the maximum payout was way less than what was showing on the screen. It’s like playing on a slot machine and on the machine it states maximum jackpot is 2 million dollars and someone plays it and the screen shows they won a jackpot for 20 million dollars… that would be an obvious malfunction. Congress needs to make a law stating that even if a machine “malfunctions”, the casino must pay out the amount. If the machine states the winner won more than the max amount, then the casino should be forced to pay at least the max amount.

That's why I didn't like it when they switch to digital instead of staying in analog.
They put it in there but they actually don’t have the money probably
Well it might malfunction when it doesn't, but why would they say something
wether it malfunctioned or not it doesnt matter, the person hit jackpot anyways, give them the max ammount those machines can give out, dont leave em with nothing when they were told they has the biggest price
They really should get some compensation larger than they paid for it malfunctioning, they risked their money gambling and the casino couldnt uphold their side of the deal.
@@jhautrey7565 yeah lol sometimes the casino has to gamble on technology, and take responsibility just like all the people who have to accept their losses while playing

Josh F-w So what is the recourse for these people? How can they know the casinos, in some cases, aren’t just trying to get out of some payouts?
because they pay out people constantly, at my casino we have a machine that takes 14 hours to verify that it was a jackpot because of how big of a jackpot it is and how many people they have to call and have drive there.
Also machines malfunction constantly we have a light on top that lights up when a machine is malfunctioning if 50 of aren't on at any given time then it must be after last call for alchol and thatsd only the critical error light probably about 200 small error lights, it happens mostly when you're losing but you don't care if the machine malfunctioned when you lost because you lost either way.

The jackpot has fallen. Millions must pay out.
The law should stipulate that if a casino chooses not to payout on a winning by claiming malfunction, then they shut their business down until they can prove via evidence.
*Can’t pay we’ll take it away*
How can you proved the machine was malfunctioning, this prooved one thing...Capitalist rules over humanity and by God grace they will go down!!!
The law lmao
Good idea

Here's the trick. Don't act excited when you win big. Just print the ticket as if nothing happened, and cash out with the cashier.
Lol you can't print big tickets over 1.200.00 in some states it's higher they have to hand pay you
@@AlbertInSanAntonio Damn it. That just shows you how often I won big 😤
@Alpha1111100 Isn't that a cashiers job? 🤣😂
Yeah anything that hits 1k here is required to be "hand paid" meaning you have to have someone assist you with it.
stay calm?
