We want to specify that a RAR file cannot be repaired if it has encrypted file names and no recovery record. If you create a RAR archive as you have described, you can repair it. The important thing is the "recovery record".

WinRaR or Zip?
WinRAR is much powerful than Zip, but if you don't need the additional features or the strongest compression, Zip will do just fine.
