    add an Ultriviolet to the lapiz lazule and in the dark it will look like the universe with millions of stars.

      I came for this comment! UV is my initial check if I can't tell the difference, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Now I have all these other comparisons in my arsenal though so I should be set!☺️

    I think your raw lapis lazuli does contain golden pyrite but it is very less. It is shining and has tiny pyrites all over.

  • @Stonehaven2112

    As you say, Lapis Lazuli is a rock, not a mineral, and is comprised primarily of the minerals Lazulite, pyrite and calcite. If it is only blue and white it may be more accurate to call it Lazurite in calcite since the pyrite is missing. I'm guessing there is some pyrite grains in there, perhaps visible using a microscope or strong loop. Anyway, awesome video and great job pronouncing feldspathoid and demonstrating streak test!

    I bought a bracelet today, thinking it was lapis lazuli , however, when I took a pic and used google lens, it identified it as Pieterlite and now I am not sure if it is or not. The images of Pieterlite beads online look very very similar to my bracelet, and yet, so do Lapis beads. Is there a way to distinguish the two? Remember, its only a bracelet, and the beads are small.

    Can I clean a raw Lapis Lazuli in water? Thanks in advance 😇

    • @CrystalGuidance
      @CrystalGuidance  3 года назад +4

      In my research I have found that some sources state that it can be porous and to not soak it in water and to dry thoroughly if you do get it wet.

    Lazurite is not naturally occurring. There is a solution series with a sulfate at one end and sulfide at the other. Forget which is lazurite and which is hauyne, but lapis is hauyne. Look it up on Monday. Pure Hauyne often occurs in polyhedral crystals, which are sold as lazurite. But if you look at the ones identified as Hauyne, they are identical.
    Another one fir you to mine is “amber calcite” which is showing up a bit lately. Hardness of 7, so not calcite. Beautiful elongated prisms packed. Together. This mineral is clinozoisite, and is rare and expensive

    My day to catch up, so watching in a row. Is it true that some Lapis has more gold color than silver in better quality Lapis? Thanks so much, very helpful. Some of my pieces do have golder specks than others.

    • @CrystalGuidance
      @CrystalGuidance  4 года назад +2

      Carol, the gold color is Pyrite. Some Pyrite might be a more vibrant gold color, but it is the same mineral either way.

    I just watched a video from GIA about lapis lazuli and the guy said the it is an 8 in the mohs scale, it’s a hard stone and will not crumble when cut.

    • @CrystalGuidance
      @CrystalGuidance  3 года назад +4

      That is incorrect information. You can do a Google search for “Lapis Lazuli hardness” for multiple sources or check this link geology.com/gemstones/lapis-lazuli/
      Also look up the hardness of the stones that are a part of Lapis Lazuli: Lazurite (5-5.5), Calcite (3), Pyrite (6-6.5).
