Yes true. Flashlight or any strong light
Black Obsidian... Translucent yellow or yellowish brown
Black Tourmaline... Slightly reddish or purplish red on sides (if not too thick)
      Black onyx.. opaque

I see the differrnce, bcos obsidian is a volcanic glass it has to have see through.thank you for making me be sure of whether my bracelet is black obsidian or onyx, bcos at a different chrystal store when asked then what stone am wearing, though I bought it being told its black obsidian, but at other store they tried to confuse me an tell me am wearing probably onyx, not even giving me a definite answer but probably.but now with this technique of light my doubts are cleared.thanks a lot😘love you

Thank you souch for clearing this up for me. I can usually figure it out, but onyx has been the biggest problem or mystery so this will definitely make it much easier. I was surprised that Obsidian was the lightest material. 😊

I coupd tell the difference by the energy surrounding each. Obsidian sucks negativity and onyx moves very steady. Tourmaline has a tiger eye-like buzz and very animated. Obsidian tends to move on its own, seeking dark energy to gobble up, very interesting

I bought two black obsidian from SIBOL CRYSTALS in the Philippines. They are reputable for selling genuine, authentic crystals. The tumbled form is translucent (yellowish brown under light), while the raw form is completely opaque. The explanation is that black obsidian is either opaque or translucent, it depends on the source and the impurities imbedded in it. One thing is sure, black obsidian is never transparent

Hi Karen. 😊 I’m loving your videos on real vs fake crystals. Thank you for making these videos 💕. There is one stone that I’m having a very difficult time in finding information on. And it’s green flower agate. I’m wondering if you have any knowledge of this stone and if it’s dyed or natural? It’s one of my favorite stones. Many people think it’s dyed and I have seen obviously dyed flower agate. Which is a darker forest green color. That doesn’t look natural. But the pretty blue green doesn’t appear to look like a dye. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you so much! 😊

Hi, real black obsidian is a common stone and there are a lot of mines. No need to do any treatments. But it can't be done to guarantee that no merchant will sell processed, or fake obsidian with glass. If it's slightly translucent, mostly likely it's real obsidian.
