Osteoarthritis (OA) is a biomechanical degeneration of cartilage and their matrix (combined with growth of bone called subchondral sclerosis). Osteoarthritis is, by far, the most common rheumatological diseases.
Osteoarthritis is the same as degenerative joint disease.
Osteoarthritis is divided into primary (idiopathic) and secondary (2ry to something else such as trauma, congenital anomaly, inflammatory arthritis,...etc).
Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by osteophytes (bony projections) in the DIP (Heberden nodes) and PIP (Bouchard nodes).
OA is diagnosed clinically and radiologically (x-ray)...You might need to do some labs to rule out other diseases.

The cervical and lumbar bcos of the excessive movement happening on those joints compare to the thorax which has limited motion bcos of the rib cage.

Sir.. may I know, what causes pain in OA? is it due to stretching of the capsule due to the effusion or by friction of the subchondral bone?

Friction between bones >> inflammation >> Pain
Osteophyte >> irritate nerves
