Sadly, here in the Far North, we are now down to one specialist art store, which obviously is not doing so well. The stocks in the last couple of years have diminished to mainly acrylics, and student grade oils and watercolours. You won't find a Sennelier or Schmincke, nor even a Winsor Newton product. The few artist products are all of lower cost brands. This is very sad for me, as I'm not overly happy ordering online, without the tactile experience of buying something. At least there are many Australian online art stores, so I don't have to source stuff from overseas. I wish I could afford to travel, to have the experience myself.

I think the Fremantle store is one of their best ones? Busselton's shop was quite good too, if rather smaller. I'm not expecting too much from the WestArt supplies - the paints look pretty low grade, but I've been surprised before so I'm trying to keep an open mind about them, haha!
Their shop in Cannington recently expanded and is the biggest one I've been to ( I live in Perth). Try that one, it's bright and open and I've found the people to be really nice
@chaosinca awesome, I'll definitely visit. The Midland one is my local and it's just depressing.
@ladyamalthea85 oh yeah, that one is pretty small. I haven't been there for a few years though. You might also try Oxlades Art Shop, they're not a Jackson's but they are awesome
@BeckyTregear I haven't tried that brand paints because I didn't think they'd be good so I'm looking forward to your review! Their canvases are pretty good
Is Strathmore paper good? I have heard mixed reviews about it.
@@artandmusic09 I've liked the papers I've tried in their range. But I don't use them a lot so I can't give a definite answer on that! ❤️
I live in Perth Western Australia 😊
Awesome! If I'd been there longer I would have looked up more art shops around the city, haha. 😂
@@Robyn19fnq Oh no, that's sad! 😭 I like to buy things in physical stores too, it is much better than online. Gets expensive though! Travelling costs a fortune too. This road trip was significantly pricier than previous years.
I always thought the Moleskine company that was founded in the '90s was a reboot. I looked it up and the original company went out of business in the 1980s.
@@lamargot2201 I didn't realise it was a reboot!
Also, I never heard of West Art, but Jackson's own brand is called Jackson's.
This company is Australian, and is listed as Jacksons Drawing Supplies, which is different from UK's Jackson's Art. It's very confusing because they share that Jackson name! But yes, two completely different companies.
The people there are very helpful and friendly however it can be a bit expensive
Theses barely any art stores here in Queensland, I only know of two and they're exorbitantly priced, especially eckersleys. I have to buy everything online.
@@tabbi888 Have you been to The Art Shed? I think there’s a store in Brisbane. The Melbourne one’s pretty good. I still need to tour it, haha!
@BeckyTregear there is one in Brisbane but I haven't been as I didn't know they sold art materials I've only heard that they held live drawing classes but it's usually so crowded it's not really worth it. Will look into it though thanks.
First!
Omg, We have the smallest Dick Blick’s on the planet. Doesn’t have a fraction of the stuff other art stores I have seen pictures and videos of. They won’t ever move to a larger space either. I asked. My bucket list consists of one thing right now and that is to go out of state to a larger art store. It doesn’t have to be Dick Blick’s either.
If I manage to visit the US again, I am so looking for a Dick Blick store! 😆
