You asked: "Did I miss something?" It was excellent! I might add that Afrikaners tend to be very innovative, which has to do with their battle for survival. They also know much better how to adapt to adverse circumstances, which other "white" nations know little about yet. They tend to be courageous and far less intimidated by fear. But, remember, all would be in vain, without having healthy families and lots of babies!!!
However, there is a significant subset of Afrikaners who swallow the mainline news narrative hook, line, and sinker. They still suffer from the apartheid stigma and just want to be in and with the crowd.

The culture and identity way of living actually will create more of a catastrophe in a multicultural society. It will highlights the “other” in all those groups. That could lead to wars and conflict.
The Bantustans was a similar concept. Allowing cultural groups to sort of govern themselves, that failed dismally.
The views you put forward Ernest, are similar to the National Party Purists and were subject to many debates in the 1930s, mainly from Afrikaner leaders. The conclusion mainly was it doesn’t work in multicultural modern economy, it definitely won’t work in a world that is becoming smaller.
I’ve encountered people mainly from Seychelles and Madagascar whom basically don’t have a definitive line of heritage.

Isn't the Zulu or the Xhosa's cultures and identities also seen as seperate from each other? So must be the Afrikaner's. We must admit that there ARE differences, and I feel that those differences must be respected as part of those cultures. To try and say to these cultures, "you are not allowed to have differences", waters down these cultures. There is a fine line in multicultural society.

@@SundayRooster speaking mulitple languages is a good thing. Congratulations, you are a polyglot. But it has nothing to do with this discussion. To tell cultures to let go of their differences, for they are in fact different, will water down the cultures in question. The aim must be to create a society in which all cultures have their individual identities. The aim must NOT be that these cultures must merge into one "multicultural" culture. With that said however, it is obvious that a seperate "multicultural" "rainbow" culture has been forming in the past 30 years between the races of this country. Encouraging the survival of this culture is a very good thing, but it is only fed by the mutual respect and harmony between the INDIVIDUAL cultures of the country.

Descendants of the first African slaves from Guinea are uniquely African. The maternal line of our family never left the African Continent, they were merely shipped from Guinea as slaves of the Fon to the Cape Colony long before the slave trade began in earnest in the 1700's. The region would later become known as the African slave coast.
The first census conducted by Gvr. Ryck Tulbagh 100 years later established that the slave population of approx. 4400 (approx. 300 were brought to the Cape) were mostly of mixed descent with the Colonialists only numbered approx. 550. This is the first 100 years of Afrikaner/Boer heritage.
Pres. Thabo Mbeki referred to Swarte Maria in his 2018 Womens Day address, failing to mention her partner Bastiaan Colijn with whom she raised a family and successfully owned productive farms in addition to "slaves". This family is an example of white Afrikaner heritage whose maternal heritage has always been of African origin. afaik.

    • @ARenewedmind
      @ARenewedmind 2 года назад +1

@Innov Ruptly - you are wrong in stating "Afrikaner heritage whose maternal heritage has always been of African origin", because you forget that Europeans came to South Africa even in the 1700's and 1800's and they did not all intermarry with "black slaves" or Hottentots. The Afrikaner history is not that simplistic, I'm afraid. My own ancestors came from Germany, France and Scotland more than 100 years after the Cape Colony was established by the Dutch.
But they all, who left the Cape to cast of the British yoke in the late 1800's to trek inland, became a unique, coherent community who valued freedom and faith in God to a high degree.

I am an American living in South Africa. I deeply love South Africa. I love its people, and I love living here. I want South Africa to succeed, and I want to contribute to that success. One of the things that puts me off about many Afrikaners is the pervasive "us vs them" mentality, which you also see in this video. The people I meet from all other ethnic backgrounds define themselves proudly as South Africans, while Afrikaners insist on defining themselves in ways meant to exclude other people. I recognize that Afrikaners are unique (as is everyone), and that they built so much of what this country now enjoys. But if you emphasize that point (which is a valid point), you must also recognize that so many of the problems this country now suffers are the legacy of those same people. You reap what you sow. Many Afrikaners are too insular and too entitled. They equate their culture (which is a subset of South African culture) with South African culture, and their people (which are a subset of South African people) with South African people. Afrikaners are an integral part of South Africa, but they do not define South Africa, and South Africa does not exclusively belong to them.

Identity is the ultimate stuff of politics since it poses the most fundamental question of all "Who do you think you are"? The experience of South Africa since 1994 is that "diversity" and "multi culturism" does not work since democracy only works within nations and not between them. The 21st century will see a worldwide rejection of these concepts and a return to the traditional nation state where a dominant national culture is prevalent. As Aristotle pointed out no State can survive without "philia", that sense of fellow citizenship that binds a society together in a spirit of harmony and cooperation. There is no manifestation of philia in ANC dominated South Africa which is why it cannot survive in its present form.

We are South Africans i.e. Suid-Afrikaners Taal = Afrikaans. Tradisie.
    Dankie vir praatjie. Groete

"Nothing frightens the 'juice' more than perfect unity in others : the unity of feeling in a movement, in a people. That is why they will always be for 'Democracy' which has but one advantage, and that one for the nations enemy. For democracy will break up the unity and spirit of a people."

A stereotype held by Afrikaners - they think that all English speakers somehow look down on them. As an English speaker I find this very upsetting. I admire Afrikaners, my mother is an Afrikaner.
I grew up on my Oom’se farm in Rhodesia and I struggled with the attitude of Afrikaners toward me when I lived in the Transvaal.
John Vorster betrayed Rhodesia, let us not forget.

The afrikaans are at the crossroads of their existence.
Roets while talkinh about his peoples challenges, totally ignores the hangover of aparthied, and its consequences.
He fails to understand that the oppression which was aparthied totally overshadowed whatever good that system did... And that good was only for the whites and crumbs for the blacks.
Unless he and the Afrikaans dont get this, they will not be able to help themselves.... And will end up finishing themselves
