Colorado has so many awesome lakes for kayaking. There are a bunch on my list to see.

Hi there, I really like your beautiful nature videos. Not sure if you'll respond but I'm visiting a friend in Colorado Springs 8/14 to 8/17/22 and I'd like to do a kayak guided tour for beginners near the Springs. Is the Rampar reservoir the closest place? And do they have kayaking tours? If not, could you suggest a place within and hour distance? Lake Dillon has Advanture kayaking but it's too far. Thanks.

Not sure of any guided tours. Another lake is Catamount which is popular with people from the Springs. It is on the Pikes Peak Highway. They do limit the amount of people they let in to the lake and I think you might need a reservation. My favorite is Eleven Mile Reservoir which would be about an hour from the springs.

I'm going kayaking at Rampart Reservoir next weekend. I made camping reservations at meadow ridge camp ground three months ago. According to an article ran in the Gazette yesterday, its down to 65% capacity. Gazette is a paper out of the Springs. They also said the boat ramp is closed. It looks pretty low in you video, hope its not much lower. Also, there is stage III fire-restrictions, so no propane or gas grills. Id prob be going into woodland park for dinner. Never-less, I still plan to do it , been looking forward to it for long time. It will be my first time kayaking there.

I was shocked at how low the water was in June. They had even dug out some soil at the boat ramp to make it more usable. You should still be able to launch a kayak. I really want to do another the video when the lake has more water. It seemed the true beauty of that lake was not captured in my video. Anyway have fun at Rampart Reservoir.

Well I made it to Rampart Reservoir, left on 20 July , returned today 22nd. I think the water levels were about the same as your video. The boat ramp was open, I drove down to bottom to drop off and pick up the kayak. I did about 14 miles over two days of kayaking. It was really fun time there. The water was for the most part pretty calm, no chop. There is plenty of water still there. Its much bigger than any of the catamount lakes on north slope pikes peak, which I did recently. Rampart was good fun.
On another note, there was a fire about four miles north of the lake on Friday/Saturday. I tried going into woodland park for dinner was passed by numerous fire trucks on rampart range road. I turned back when I got to the barricade setup near woodland park. I could see the fire when I was driving back to the campground in my rear view mirror. The helicopters were pulling water from rampart, you could hear them from the campground. We were not evacuated. Several people were doing campfires, which was really weird considering what was going on nearby. btw, at the campground it was stage 1 restrictions, so you could do campfires and propane. I cooked when I got back, I had some cans of chilli in my camper.

We were at Eleven Mile Reservoir and it was smokey there too. I have had smoke at every camping trip this Summer. Hope next Summer it is not as dry.

Does this place get busy on the weekends?

Go early and it will not be that busy. I was surprised when I returned to the parking lot at 11:00 am it was almost full. Keep in mind it was a super hot day 6-9-2018 so I think the lake was busier than normal. Also highway 24 West bound was backed up from McDonalds to Wal Mart both lanes at Woodland Park at 11:30 am. I don't like crowds, but go early and it's not bad.

Checked out your videos. I would love to come up for a trip some day. I spent some time in Alaska when I was in the Coast Guard.
