    How do you like studying at McGill? I’m also from the US and I have recently been looking into McGill quite heavily. I plan on applying to McGill this year as one of my top choices and am curious to hear from an actual student and their experiences.
    (Also the video was produced very well!)

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  5 лет назад +14

      Thanks Matt! If I’m being totally honest, McGill has its ups and downs, like I’m sure every school has. Courses can get quite difficult but it’s more or less managing your time well. And also lol, if you are not from like cold weather in the US, it’s pretty darn freezing up here in the winters haha. Definitely need proper jacket and snow boots.

    • @mattbourque9757
      @mattbourque9757 5 лет назад +4

      Noah Chen Thanks for responding and I appreciate the honesty! Yeah I’m from the northeast so I am somewhat accustomed to the cold weather but I can imagine how much colder it is up there lmao. I really liked this video and the day in the life from a couple months ago. Excited to see future posts 💪

    What's your budget like for meals/food and how do you find the meal plan at McGill suits you? How often do you cook for yourself? Great video!

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  5 лет назад +6

      If you are an incoming freshman and plan to live on campus, you get an automatic food plan (maybe I’ll explain further in another video). It’s pretty much a generic freshman meal plan that you can use at cafeterias or some local restaurants/cafes (Starbucks as an example). Most people don’t cook for themselves unless they live off campus (since we have mandatory meal plans). If you have a kitchen and want to cook, definitely feel free too! Most if not all residences have some form of a communal kitchen! And ofc, I go out to eat a few times a week!

    Hi Noah! Thanks so much for your video! I just wanna ask how manageable it is to live (and find a job) without speaking French in Montreal (especially outside the so-called "McGill bubble")?

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  5 лет назад +4

      Super manageable. Coming to Montreal, I didn't know any French at all. Montreal is a very diverse city and most if not all people speak English. and ofc, McGill courses are taught in English! You should definitely not worry about language. As for a job, unless you are interacting with customers if you are looking for a manual labor job, you might need to know French but you could obviously get a job on campus that doesn't require French.

    hi! i'm a hs junior in california, and i'm interested in mcgill - do they really only look at test scores? (you can probably understand my doubt considering that the well-known unpredictability of top us schools like the ivies) and how would you say mcgill compares to high school in the u.s. in terms of the environment, esp. montreal language barrier? thanks!!

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  4 года назад +4

      Hey Katie! Yup haha. McGill only requires your test scores so whether that’s ACT and SAT + your grades from high school (I think maybe even 11th and 12th grade or 10th, 11th, 12th)

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  4 года назад +8

      In terms of McGill environment, a lot of people like to study lol. That’s kind of the rap that McGill gets but overall, Montreal is a really great city. You don’t need to speak French to be able to go around the city. It’s all bilingual!

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  4 года назад +1

      Hey Taylor! Campus size isn’t super big. If you had a class from like one end to another end at a different building, it probably takes 10-15 min walking. Obviously, snow/weather slows you down a bit. It’s ok if you are late by a little bit!

      Nice! No problem! Yup, application process is very easy (at least for me coming from the US). You just need to submit a transcript (I believe they look at 10,11,12th grades). Depending on the program, I guess for Bio, you probs need an A- average or better (or B+).

    hello, i was wondering which cafeteria has the best food, and which one do you think is the best out of the hotel-style residences and if new rez is too far from the campus

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  5 лет назад +5

      Hey! Overall, caf food is gonna be similar but some diff features. The most popular one is RVC because its closest to campus. The food there is decent. New Rez also has a cafeteria which has poké and pizza which is cool. I liked the Upper Rez dining halls like Douglas as well. Not a big selection, but they do it pretty well.
      For hotel style, it depends what you like. C4 has a mini cafeteria & Starbucks connected, La Cit has a small cafe but is probably the nicest & most modern (IMO), and New Rez, has pretty good cafeteria. All personal choice, but I went with La Cit and I don’t regret my decision!
      New Rez isn’t that far from campus. About a 12 min walk away I would say. For La Citadelle, it’s about a 7-8 min walk away.

      If you were born in Quebec, you should be a Quebec citizen meaning you pay the Quebec tuition which should be the cheapest. It’s different from US schools since I did apply from the US as well. There’s like minimum requirements for each program and it’s pretty much based on your grades so if you meet the requirements or are somewhat in range, you should be fine! Thanks, I appreciate it$

    Hi, I'm a 12th grade currently residing in South Korea and applying to McGill this year. I lack a lot of information in the academic life in McGill, yet I have a major concern that I can't speak French at all. Does speaking French matter a lot? How does McGill curriculum deal with international students who can't speak French and how inconvenient is it if I can't speak French to live in Montreal?

    • @noahchenvlogs
      @noahchenvlogs  4 года назад +1

      Hey! Nice, French is like barely needed at all. I took French last year just to bolster some basic French. At McGill, all classes are in English so no need to learn how to speak French. In terms of the city, everyone speaks English. Unless you would like a job around the city, you would need to learn how to speak French.
