  • A typical Xizi Otis made OTIS GeN2 in a seemingly dead shopping center somewhere in Bur Dubai, Dubai. Interestingly this elevator is rear driven, meaning that the motor and counterweight (not shown here) are installed on the back rather than on the side. The escalators here are from 1995, indicating that this elevator must have replaced an older elevator (probably OTIS as well).
For some reason one of the door control buttons keeps on illuminate even when the doors are closed, something not commonly seen in many Xizi Otis elevators.

I always love Dubai. I go there on my way from Melbourne to the UK. Every time I find more amazing finds like this.

My church's Pillar and one of UKDW's Hyundai in Jogja are also (at least partially) rear-driven too, since their counterweight is installed at the back.

To see counterweight, go to top most floor and send the elevator down the bottom most floor and vice versa when you are at the bottom most floor

Yeah! Indeed, That is what I have been doing with HDB lifts with windows whenever I want to see how the counterweight looks like.
At Tampines Mall Lobby B the new Otis Gen2 (former Otis Spec 90) is also rear driven although there is no window but shaft light is on and I look up through the door tracks.
