Curfew hour that they talk about is all people should be inside thier houses in 10 or 11PM specially the minors, no noises, no party after 11PM otherwise barangay police will bring them to jail or to barangay hall overnight and sometimes with penalty of money for breaking that law

philippines aint dangerous, sure they look poor but not as bad as as places in south america, places in mexico due to the cartels, places in africa etc
the hotel ad you saw was just placed there because it's right next to a station. yes, that's a slum right next to a major transportation hub. the hotel isn't a slum though lol. basically it's 3 star budget motel. it' ain't that bad, heck it probably is even better than the place you initially stayed at. also you seem disappointed that you're often get mistaken as a local, cause you are indeed look like a local 😅 maybe take advantage of it. you could avoid the "foreigner's price tag" at certain places there. also your "white" boyfriend isn't far from being mistaken as a local either. he could easily be mistaken as "tisoy". a half filipino mixed with any of the caucasian race including spanish.

I think you mentioned you couple only got 2 weeks in the Philippines so if you still got time try traveling north to Baguio City and experience different City outside of Metro Manila, try allocate 2 nights in City of Pines / Baguio. enjoy,,,
you guys must be brave staying in a hotel not from a tourist place. I am not saying its not safe though, but you must be careful enough. Makati, BGC, Ortigas are the most popular safe places to check in.
Also, make sure you have medicines ready, for headaches because it’s really hot weather, and for stomachaches because of those cold drinks that you get from the streets. I got sick twice from the water i drink. Please be safe.♥️
Oh i was surprised to see foreign vloggers staying in V. Mapa! usually they rent out in Makati, Malate, BGC. Cubao is also another cheap alternative. And it is in the central area. Accessible to both MRT and LRT. V. Mapa though is a indeed a local neighborhood. And I thought at first, your Indonesian. By the way, I hope you will also visit Cebu and Palawan and other Islands. Vloggers oftentimes just transit in Manila and go directly Island hopping.
