    That guy that wanted to be a voice actor had an amazing voice!! I wish he could have continued but the anime/manga industry is hard. Yet I'm confused on why so many people in the west /still/ want to work for the anime/manga industry. That cosplayer isn't wrong about the Japanese work so hard. I'm not saying that any other country/race doesn't work just as hard. But you have to give them credit for continuing so much and even /after/ knowing they get paid so little. Truly, I am thankful for those that work in the industry and will continue to support!

    I guess this is why some of the anime's that I watch don't return for a second or third season and just end abruptly. or sometimes they take years for another season, it must be really hard and stressful

    • @fandyllic1975
      @fandyllic1975 6 лет назад +17

      Actually, following seasons usually don’t show up for reasons other than how hard it is to make anime... the reason is usually the manga or light novel used as source material didn’t have enough story written or the Blu-ray/DVD didn’t sell well enough. Other reasons are business relations gone sour or source material didn’t see a big enough sales boost to justify another season.

    • @staremind4
      @staremind4 6 лет назад +2

      @@fandyllic1975 Yes i'm well aware that some seasons don't have enough manga material, but I was talking more about the anime that do have enough manga material, but the anime just abruptly stops and the manga keeps going.

    • @fandyllic1975
      @fandyllic1975 6 лет назад +4

      Anime from a source material like a manga are usually made to boost the sale of the source, so if it doesn’t boost it enough, there won’t be another season... which I said, but you either missed it or ignored it.

    Hmm Also, it's been wildly know across the world that Anime and Manga industry had been notoriously bad to it's workers.
    But recently Global Streaming companies have been fighting for content in Anime, Hulu and Netflix are now always looking for animation studios to fund them for a contract, and their method of business is very different from how to make and release anime compared to the traditional standards of Japan.
    The stupid thing about this is that many fans complain about anime being released as a completed series rather than a weekly basis.
    It's so stupid, this way the stress of a time limit is eased off, but some fans are so stubborn.
    I actually like the idea of releasing a complete series as a whole, because seasonal Anime had become far to hectic to keep up with every week.

    • @makeshift307
      @makeshift307 6 лет назад +1

      i myself wouldn't mind if they were worked on and completed then released every week, as i just don't have time to stop and watch a whole series, especially when there are so many coming out, also what a lot of people are upset about is the fact that they have to wait a long time to get the anime series that is currently airing and being simul-dubbed. however, i think if the companies were to team up with streaming sites more often for funding on projects, then perhaps the animators and writers could be paid more, or at least the amount that they deserve.

    • @Mecks089
      @Mecks089 6 лет назад +6

      But you don't have to binge it, you could watch an episode a day or a week, that's the beauty of it, why can't people see that?
      Why be limited to a weekly basis, when so many problems are well known in this method? Deadlines are always a priority, and that leads to episodes being rushed, in either the writing, or the animation.
      People take in these notices and then they say the show is trash and not worth watching given how bad the production was done in such short times.

      Tbh I think it’s way deeper than that, promoting mags through anime is normal so they try to continue an anime as long as possible by weekly episodes

    I used to want to become a character designer or animator but gave up. Kinda because of the same reasons. I knew it would be extremely hard and you don't get paid enough for it. So I considered whether I love it so much that I could be able to endure the fact. But I didn't want to start hating it when working in that industry myself. I heard a few stories of friends or random people I met when I worked at a restaurant in Japan. One Japanese woman worked backstage at a theater in Japan she used to love wholeheartedly but after only a few years she quit because the job was rough and the payment pretty low compared to it. After she quit she couldn't go to the theater anymore because that job left her with a trauma. Now this musn't be the case for everyone but think about your choices thoroughly.

    I have a friend who was one of the animators of Ano Hana... we talked a lot because I also want to be a voice actor. And it's true that the salary of being a mangaka and an animator is low.. that's why he stopped being an animator. Well, others continue to work because they love what they're doing even if the salary is not that high. He also added that Voice Actors' salary is really low. But if you're really popular, like Kaji Yuki or Mamoru Miyano who has their own concerts and own segments, they have extra salary or what... It's a real competition in the VA industry, even the popular VAs still going through auditions for a particular role. That's why, when u have a role, it means u have a job and u have a money. and if u donlt have a role, u don't have a job and u don't have a money. lol. i mean, there are tons of popular pro VA and u can't defeat them easily in an audition.
    But , I will still continue my dream of becoming a voice actor HAHA! I would like to be in a place where I can do it seriously until I'm satisfied.

    Ben Diskin who is an american voice actor (Young Xehanort in KH, Haida in Aggretsuko or Aggressive Retsuko for Japanese) talked about in a kirbopher podcast about how heartbreaking the voice acting industry is. You could be the greatest voice impressionist and actor ever, but there'll be times when the casting director chooses the other guy all because he lives closer to the studio. And he mentions a lot of other honest depressing things about getting into voice acting in there as well. It would only be something that I would have to REALLY love and be determined in order to do it. If you want to hear more about it just look up kirbopher Ben Diskin.

    That girl that talked about not being able to write/draw exactly what you want hit the nail on the head for me. The whole anime/manga industry is driven by trends and editors who keep them in check. You could be a talented manga-artist with a interesting story but if an editor thinks it doesn't have enough of a mass appeal you ain't getting published. Even after you alter your manga to appease the editor and somehow managed to get published, you are now stuck with brutal deadlines that leaves little free time and comes with a whole host of health problems not to mention you might not be writing/drawing the kind of manga you really want which may affect your motivation.
    I've dabbled in creating manga and honestly I applaud people that can dedicate themselves to their craft so much. Its so time consuming and draining creating page after page of stories which are consumed at 1/1000th of the speed at which it was created (especially the more detailed manga).

    10:44 i agree with her
    about 3-4 years ago i was thinking about to start draw an illustration , as for my hobby not work though,
    but the more im aware of the backstage [ ex : the procedure to draw a face or an expression ] , the more im afraid i may have avoid illustration
    because whenever i see an illustration i will be like, "i have to be able to draw like this because it so pretty" instead of enjoying the art, i will be pressed by the pressure of me having to be able to draw as good as the illustration that i see
    that was only my speculation but guess what
    now im learning japanese because i wanted to, and now i have the fear of "not fully understanding one grammar" or "i should've remember this kanji before because i learned it already" , the pressure is real
    i have been watchin less and less anime ever since just because the character speak japanese .... i just take whatever the character said as a lesson to me to understand what they just said or how well i can translate what they said
    i just cant enjoy anime as i used to ..

      Ah, regarding learning Japanese, I don't have that many problems, mainly because I learned many other languages
      and I know that forgetting is normal, if you don't use the language.
      I learned French, Italian and Spanish at least up to a conversational level (I think all should have been about B1 in CEFR), but nowadays (Just about 6 years later),
      I have forgotten almost everything (especially Spanish). If I hear it, I often know what they're saying, but I couldn't even introduce myself nowadays.
      If you keep in contact with a language (as it's the case with English if you're on the Internet), you will learn it and if you actually use it as well, you won't forget it.

    This all goes very well in line with Egoraptors questions for Imaishi and Yoh about what kind of shows they would like to make. The answer was "the kind that would be popular", not "my passion project since childhood". Imaishi even said he's not interested in watching the kind of shows he makes, which says something about the professional and detached approach he has.

    The former is related to yourself, your heart; while the latter is related to the company. You may choose not to watch a certain genre of anime, but you may not choose the pictures you draw for a company.
    Given the low salary in the anime industry, a lot of people are reluctant to join the production line as conditions are too harsh.

    Work culture in Japan is bad in general, but even more so for those in the anime industry. Ironically it was an anime that taught me that--Shirobako discusses the background of the anime industry. It's sad, considering anime is Japan's biggest industry, yet those who work in the industry work so much and receive so little. I wish there was something I could do as a foreigner to change that. Of course, I buy volumes and DVDs when I can, but I have a hunch that most of that revenue doesn't actually reach the animators. :(

    • @JPNox
      @JPNox 6 лет назад

      I wish so too, but even a group of consumers is too small unit to change something imho (unless someone starts a whole movement or something, but I'm not seeing it in this case). Something that's fairly ingrained in Japan as you noted. We may try to do some small good things, I heard there was some way to sponsor anime/manga creators/workers but can't remember which website it was (does anyone know?). But overall - can't really imagine a change unless there's a push through globalization, competition and/or government. I _think_ I heard there's a company that treats their workers well and still has no issues meeting deadlines, again can't remember which one, but if so then they unfortunately didn't end up being an example to others. Oh well.

    I realised very early on when I was a teen what it would take to create my own manga at the rate that the Japanese do. It's SO much work, if you had assistants it wouldn't take as long but it's still a lot of time and energy, I simply wouldn't have had a life if I had the tough deadlines they face constantly. So I decide fairly quickly that it wasn't for me. I still deeply love the art of manga/anime but I think I'll always enjoy it more as a consumer than a creator. They really should give a bigger salary to all those hardworking animators and mangakas. Their gorgeous animations and drawings deserve better pay.

    My (American) Japanese teacher had a friend who worked in Japan as a salesman (I think). There in Japan, people do work harder compared to Americans. Instead of working the"normal hours", my teacher's friend carries his foreign passport to be released at an earlier time. Good for him, but not for his Japanese coworkers. So if foreigners want to work in the anime/manga industry they might go easy on you... maybe.

    It's hard for Japanese people to live that dream. Harder for foreigners. When I said "Hard" I didn't mean It lightly.
    I'm so sad. I think it is really IMPOSSIBLE for me.
    I used to love to draw Manga too. Overall I love different kinds of art. I'm just a teenager right now. Idk what will I pursue. Life's so tough.

    I once read a Q&A from Mr. Sorachi who created Gintama. He said that you almost earn nothing as a mangaka through the Anime adaptation. The producers have to pay a licensing fee to him but that was it. All the earnings from the Animes go to the studios.
    I'm sure all the Merchandise and DVD sellings go to the studios as well. I hope they someday change this system.
    This shouldn't be the norm.
    When I think about how the Mangaka from HxH or D.Gray-man suffer from sicknesses, back pain and constant lack of sleep then I really wonder if this is all worth it. Of course I would be utterly sad if they discontinued the series', but I could understand them. They only earn money through their Manga sellings. Wth Japan. Do something, please.
    Here's the source if anyone's interested. www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2016/11/26-1/gintama-creator-comments-on-how-much-manga-authors-make-from-anime-adaptations
    Sorachi is such a likeable guy.

    Feels like doing Manga work, or animation work is just to be seen as a learning experience, and after that just go your own way try to earn money thru youtube, twitch or pateron is a better idea, and less stressful.
    A shame they get so exploited.

    This is just what I thought lately but I think we should support the manga and anime industry if we can and are able to afford so instead of pirating all the time. Don't you feel sad if youre in the position of those ppl who work hard in the industry? I think it contributes to the reason why some really good af anime gets discontinued. So guys, let's all try and stop pirating:c

    I love a LOT of things about Japan, but how they treat their animators is criminal. They are paid below poverty wages until they into their 40's. "According to the Japanese Animation Creators Association, an animator in Japan earns on average ¥1.1 million (~$10,000) per year in their 20s, ¥2.1 million (~$19,000) in their 30s, and a livable but still meager ¥3.5 million (~$31,000) in their 40s and 50s. The poverty line is Japan is ¥2.2 million." - Vox
    They need to change this if they want the industry to survive. Lots they can do because other countries already do those things.

    Animators n mangaka have decent salary and with tough deadlines but yet millions of ppl all around the world download the pirated version of that anime and read the pirated version of that manga.
    Come on guys. If u have job n money, spend your money to buy their works. I honestly want to support them but I'm still a student right now. A college student. So.. right now I'm just enjoying their pirated version :(

    please start using your own subtitles, youtube subtitles are really hard to read due to the text colour and background colour and it just doesnt work as well. I don't typically watch your full videos anymore because of the fact you use youtube subtitles, the vast majority of channels use their own subtitles edited into the video because they're more professional looking, attractive looking and easier to read and the fact you use youtube subtitles really lets your videos down
