I have always loved, “The Duke” it’s a very sexy looking airplane. Comfortable seats inside, appears to be going 100 knots sitting on the ramp. I am very envious of your airplane, sir.
Loved your comment sir; sexy plane it looks fast sitting on the ground ! Kindly my old man bought one back in 1988 pressurized too in Caracas/ Venezuela, and before had a Baron 52,flew all his life since he was16 years got his Pilot license in Texas. Do recall he used to say that the DUKE was a really fast airplane. It would nice too to see a video of your stunning Duke flying sir thank you for sharing indeed.
Beech = high class! Beautiful twin From the single engine Bonanza V35 up! Royal Duke ( if you can afford it ) with turbine P&W PT6's gives you 3,000 + fpm on climb out
I never understood why Beechcraft didn’t design a door with an air stair. That looks like it would be difficult for an elderly person to get into. Not sure there is anything that sounds as good as a Duke taking off!
Thanks for the tour and the time with making this video.. I didn't know about ads-b Until I saw this so you taught me something .. I am not a pilot, just interested in aviation
i understand what you were trying to say about the turbocharger at +fl23. it isnt normally aspirated that altitude, normally aspirated would be no turbo or super charger at all, but the turbocharger like you said is holding sea level power up to that point and is making the most available boost . i have always loved the duke. thats cool that you get to own and fly one. question, with the waist gates, do you still need to watch MP on take off for overboost, or do the waistgates keep that under control ? thanks
@@rosspipelines1 Classy bird and thanks for reply. Didn't see it before. Did you install the intercoolers or did it come to you that way - and if so how much did they really help? They seem draggy. Oh yeah and what did they charge you for the windshield P&L. Thanks and hope all is well still.
great video and walk around! Question though- the prop radius appears quite small compared to the engine blocks. It appears as if half the thrust created by the props is used to cool the engine or blocked by the engine intlet while the other half(outer) actually provides thrust. Does this make the duke feel underpowered?
BLAMBERRY the takeoff RPM is quite high 2975 RPM. It cools nicely, only at high altitudes will it get warm requiring you to open the cowl flaps. I think the Cessna twins are geared engines allowing a larger prop diameter. Power is excellent. Just have to stay ahead of the power curve. Enroute Cruise is flown at 32”mp and 2500rpm. Burning about 50gpm and yielding around 211 knots at altitude FL220
The dukes are renowned for not being able to use the horsepower of their engines to the same effect as their contemporaries, this is attributed (in part) to the smaller diameter of the props. Still a very nice aircraft though!
@@waynehardy66 one thing you need to remember on prop diameter, the prop must not exceed the speed of sound which will cause cracking and inefficiency . the smaller the diameter, the faster it can turn, in this case as Mike mentioned, a high 2975 to make HP. very large diameter props like a P51 mustang must have a gear reduction for the same reason, run the engine at high RPM for high power output, but not overspeed the propeller. in fact the q400 props only turn 900rpm at redline and cruise rpm is somewhat lower.
nah iisnt expensive to maintain lol i have a 1979 duke i call maybell just had the new alternators relae the generators new glass panel in march of this year, i also have a `1985 cessna p 210R which i bought new, and a P337 not sure which one i like better for cross country trips i just got back from ohio in the P210 \had new boots installed. i do iwish someone could comeup with a stc to get rid of those engines. and turbines are out of the question. belive royal turbine is out of bussiness anyway, the duke did get me my future wife lol but at 71 anyone one is better lol not sure if she likes the duke or me.. might be a tossup.
One of Beech’s most unreliable planes and maintenance is a nightmare with these. $$$$$$. Get those curtains out of it. Thee entry door and side windows look like a hearse.
Great presentation and great plane!

Fantastic video, I am heading out on Friday to view one, I’ve never been an owner so this is the beginning of an adventure for us!!!
Let me know if you have any questions. Be glad to help.
Such a fantastic plane! Too bad you don’t see them around in the Netherlands. It has always been a dream of mine to fly one of these beauty’s
I Also have always loved the Duke, got to ride in a model 60 a few times and it was always awesome.
Same here
Nice plane, thanks for sharing!

Sweet plane. I have always like them.
One of my most favorite airplanes! 😁
Hey! Great video. I'm about to close on one.
I enjoyed. Thanks for sharing!
Great Video
Love the look of the Duke but was told cost a lot to maintain
Adolph Dupree they can be costly. But they fly like a dream.

Great Toy.
thats a lot of power
66 gallons an hour on climb out!
Good video

fly wayne they are throttle limited. But you have to watch them so you don’t overboost them. But they manage themselves.
did u know beech had to slow the duke down so it was slower then kingair
I do, they didn't want the competition with their King airs.
Thanks -great video. Any idea how much these are going for today ?
Anywhere from 100k to over 250k
@@rosspipelines1 thanks
Beautiful airplane as are all Dukes. Go Beechcraft or go home.
What is "48?" I forgot, is Duke considered a "cabin class twin?"
We are big Fans Of NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson. His car is 48.
It’s is considered that yes. Although the Cessna and pipers are a bit roomier. This plane was built for speed

Nose baggage is no bigger than a Baron or 340. If you want a turbo twin and need space-421 is probably a better choice.

Does the Duke have an AC or an heating?
Yep has a AC that works well and a very good heater.
@@rosspipelines1 Also the Royal Duke?

Beautiful aircraft! hanks for sharing! ...how much an "average" annual inspection can go for? thanks
about 12k for an annual
@@rosspipelines1 thanks!!
@@rosspipelines1 thank you
If it is maintained properly, and on top of, $6k... A poorly maintained or annual skipped here and there will lead to a 12-13k annual.
You’d need to expect 8-12k. The engines are quite pricey to overhaul.

Dan Baltizar You are a bit off. Once the cams and carbide lifters are in place and you have the AC working these aren’t bad planes. Similar to a 340.
