    Awesome shot man, that's some ancient Roman auxiliary slinger level of accuracy right there

    Now that's what I call the biggest slinging flex: hitting an archery target at two and a half times the distance archers usually shoot at!

    an 80 cm archery target is hard to hit with a bow at 60 m but with a sling at 175 respect 👍
    i really appreciate your content

    A Carthaginian fleet is heading to Magna Graecia to face Syracuse, Slingers from Iberia and the Balearic Islands go with them, I think it's time to recruit you as a mercenary...

    That's amazing, I experimented with slinging here in US but when I visit Europe it would be cool to see some real slinging clubs and such talent

    CONGRATULATIONS! at that distance the arrow has reached beyond its maximum effective range. im curious how lethal a 180m sling projectile is? maybe testing at 100meters is a good start with ballistic gel

    Good stuff. Many people only show the slinger and not the impact. I suggest you go high above some lake. When the rock hits the water it is pretty clear what happens. Anyway thx!

    This is how I imagine the Balearic slingers being used. The two armies are almost close enough to charge, but not close enough for pilum. This is where the slingers disrupt formations, put enemy soldiers on the ground for following soldiers to step around, cause nasty wounds. And they keep it up for 1500 yards!

    This is why Romans don't always train Archers despite having bows & arrows already in their knowledge.
    Primarily always against other ranged enemies.

    Incredible! At what distance could you consistently strike this sized target?

    • @Acroballistics
      @Acroballistics  3 месяца назад +1

      distance will depend on what you consider consistent. In modern balearic competitions they use 1.2 x 1.2 meter target at 13 and 20 meters and under competition conditions there are a lot of misses.

    Incredible. How long does it take to get that good?

    • @Acroballistics

      I was target slinging up to 40m for 10 years. then I found this place and after a while I got hits at 100m then I believed I could get a hit at 150m which I did after 2-4 sessions at 150m. The 175m hit was more difficult, it took 15 training days to get a hit. I was using very inconsistent ammo so it was part luck part skill (15days in a month, this was the first time training for target slinging at that distance, in the past 10 years I might have had a couple of days of target slinging at similar distances). If you are just starting but learn fast and you are fit you could do it in 3 months. Ideally you would have a good sling, plenty consistent ammo and someone to train with at those distances

    Great shot. At what range could you hit the target three times consecutively?

  • @theprancingprussian
    @theprancingprussian 10 месяцев назад

    Great how in theory these could have anahilated armies using early guns since even in mass firing early modern firearms couldn't manage many, if any hits outside 120 meters unless very well trained
    While slings can be more accurate at times will accuracy by volume as well

    How fast is the ammo flying to target? Very fascinating!

    • @Acroballistics
      @Acroballistics  6 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know. I think it would be in the 55-65m/s region

    Approximately... how many shots do you need to hit this size target at 100m?

    • @Acroballistics
      @Acroballistics  Год назад +4

      every time I went there I had with me a bag of stones (70-150 stones of different sizes) so the days I got a hit it was with roughly 100 shots, other days I get close but no hit.
