- Politician, lawyer, judge and member of Mississippi's Ordinance of Secession Drafting Committee, Hugh Reid Miller served as Colonel of the 42nd Mississippi at Gettysburg. Mortally wounded during Pickett's Charge, his death began an odyssey to bring his mortal remains back home... during wartime.

I love how Matt has entrusted parts of the presentations to his son, Ben, over the years. That shows a father who knows how to builds up his children, to include them in important things, and to share the things he loves with them. That love comes through when he guides battlefield walks as well as in lectures. All of the guides are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. And I’m thankful that Matt Atkinson is among them to bring his unique gifts to share with us all !!!!
One of Matt's finest presentations. I believe his innermost being was touched by Col. Miller's story, being from the same part of the country as he was. Thanks for these Southern stories!

I watch all of Matt’s presentations/battle walks and it pains me to say this-I sure hope he is healthy. Looks like he has lost weight.
Being a southern boy from Georgia, I can relate to almost everything Matt speaks on and he has peaked my interest in the civil war more than anyone else.
Always loved the generic history of the American civil war but once I discovered Matt, I have wanted to learn about the “minutiae” (as Matt would), the individual units and so forth.
