This is definitely kpop vibes for me. I’ve been watching and keeping up with kpop for over 13 years and this is just how it’s evolved with the creativity and art that everyone who works on these puts in. From hair, fashion, choreography and MVs etc. It’s also a very competitive industry so of course the change has been in leaps and bounds over the years, but it for sure fits kpop in my books

As a Korean, I completely get what he's saying. It's still "Korean pop music" but it isn't what "kpop" was or what it became famous for. It always had traces, references, homages, and heaps of influence from western music, but it's leaning more and more into that than ever. That's not a bad thing, it's definitely different.
On first listen I was totally feeling this song. Things have simmered now and it's a solid 8.5 for me on Aespa standards. On my regular kpop standards as a whole, 9.5/10. I love it, and I love that Aespa always gives us something different.

The rest of the album leans more towards K-pop (which, of course, isn’t a bad thing), but it feels more forgettable and weaker compared to the main title, possibly playing it safe. Currently, there’s a trend (or artistic direction) of techno and house going mainstream, blending with pop and hyperpop. This can be seen in albums like "Brat" or from other artists like FKA Twigs in her upcoming projects, or the viral album by French artist Yseult, which is refreshing to hear. As you mentioned, it revisits the Y2K movement with samples, and aesthetic but incorporating electro sounds brings more experimental elements, much like what Aespa tends to do. Now, with hip-hop (and RnB) being so saturated as the most listened-to genres, artists and big companies are trying to develop distinct sounds by exploring different directions, which can be a good thing!
