I had a family member that came onto my Facebook and posted something publicly about her Jehovah’s Witness belief and referenced the organizations website, which I will not promote here. I deleted the entire post that led to that, and I told her what I thought of the entire thing. Now I love this aunt, but there is absolutely no mistake. She knows how I feel about the organization and its overall dishonesty and falsehood. And she thought she would come on my Facebook page and promote it to my friends. I haven’t really communicated with her since then and she has not posted anything that I have been able to see on her Facebook nor have I heard anything about her other than she is separated from her husband. He was a nut job from the get-go, who became an elder then mental illness and alcoholism set in and now the poor guy has cancer. Anyway, I have seen nothing about her religion that has given her any actual love joy, or peace.
My mom, on the other hand asked me to unfriend her if I would not remove an article that mentioned her religion amongst others as being culpable for not reporting child abuse. It was basically a footnote in the article that she was probably applauding until she saw her religion’s name in it. Then she insisted that I delete it or delete her, because she didn’t know how to unfriend me. So I unfriended her as she requested. She has since wanted me to find her again, and I will not. I talk to her. She doesn’t get to run my Facebook page though. J dubs are weird and they don’t have any boundaries.
It’s sad when a small child has to address crazy adult behavior.

It was spoken about so much at the meeting how we would be tortured, they would describe torture methods like ripping your nails out pulling your teeth out and other gruesome acts a young child should not be listening to. Or the blood talks were another favourite, I remember asking my mum when I was very young if she would let me die if I needed blood? She told me of course she would have to it was gods law. Your girls are THE CUTEST. My mother spent a lot of time with my daughter when she was small. She's 20 years old now. They shared a close & loving relationship, until my mother passed on 07.25.23. Lloyd, if I may respectfully share the benefit of my experience, that horrible religion takes so much from us & the members. As much as you do not want your girls indoctrinated with that craziness, I understand. Yet, I also understand it's so important to surround your babies with people that love them - their grandparents do love them. Keep those disagreements away from your children's view. It is important they respect your wishes, but when the girls are aware of those disagreements it may plant a seed of acrimony in the girls mind towards their grandparents - as if they have to be on Dad's side. I shared my story on EXJW Diaries "Shunning" and at the time my daughter was born, I was "done" but not awake. Watch my story. I actually asked my daughter to study the Bible with JW's, because she knew NOTHING. My daughter was able to make her stand against the religion WITHOUT my influence. Why? Because it made no sense and I (just like you) raised my daughter without any religious indoctrination. The reality is - JW's are going to try and convert. That's what they do. Your daughter is already super smart, she's able to articulate to her grandparents that's not real and let's not have to call Mum or Dad. I hope you can benefit from my experience and my humble advice. Got to watch you 2nd stand up. Take care. 😊

    • @healthcarefails
      @healthcarefails 6 месяцев назад +7

I'll disagree a bit on this. Indoctrination of small children happens out of the view of their parents. The only way for the girls to have those boundaries respected is for them to be able to enforce the boundaries on their own. It isn't sewing acrimony, it is establishing early that boundaries must be respected. This is especially true of grandparents and beloved family members trying to indoctrinate, because indoctrination plays on emotions and fears. Grandparents already have an emotional connection to a grandchild, making it that much easier to indoctrinate them.
It is important for them to have these boundaries respected when the parent is not present. It doesn't sound like he is preventing the girls from seeing their grandparents, just that they respect the boundaries when they are together.

Meaning...the first Commenter is who I agree with. I see no harm in expressing a belief about a mom hoping to someday see her loved one again. NDE experiences show these to be true, not necessarily the way JWs describe it however. I don’t think a young child should be exposed to one or the other’s belief or non-belief systems but there is a modge-podge of beliefs, opinions, ideas in most family systems. Children are pretty savvy and can figure things out with parent’s guidance, without being indoctrinated by an angry parent or zealous grandmother. If it’s that bad, just keep the children out of it. You already know a JW HAS to be a JW or suffer “Bloodguilt”. But respectfully, try not to show off a nine year olds skills that you are teaching her, on the air. We all have family challenges. Teach love and deep respect. Maybe you do not get along with mom. But gramma is different in a grandchild’s eyes. It was sad when she said your mom was messed up. I would never have gotten away with that as a child. Don’t worry, I’ll not watch again, please don’t be angry with me, I’m a gramma too. ❤

Breaking the cycle! That was so refreshing. Congratulations to the entire family!

I agree to a point, but I hope she can learn to respect others rights to their choices as well, as long as their beliefs do no harm. I saw no harm in a gramma saying she looked forward to seeing her son someday. Many people believe the Spirit lives on. But I don’t know the family dynamics. I’m not so sure I would’ve aired the family laundry, but that is what people do now I guess. And it was sad a nine year old would say his mom was messed up. Isn’t that disrespecting the gramma the way the gramma somehow disrespected the son? Why air that and just not allow the child to be in her presence? Whose home was she in? There’s lots of unanswered questions. I think it’s a family dispute and the child is in the middle. Sorry! I’m not popular, just an average gramma! 😮❤

I guess you have to ask permission to share what you believe now. My mom was Catholic. I learned real horror stories about Saints. Maybe if I was the gramma, I’d have to ask if it was ok to say I looked forward to seeing my loved one again in Heaven? But I’d appreciate it then too, if someone who doesn’t believe as I would, to have the respect to not push their baloney on me.

At nine, the grandmother expressing wanting to see her son again...what really was wrong with a mother’s hope? I guess I’m not fully understanding the family dynamics.

I think the stories are pretty accurate according to the bible. I was 5 years old in 1979 reading them, the book was very popular as I recall. I did leave the false in 1996. The parents are still in it, haven't spoken to them since 1996. Dad sledge hammered my rock n roll cassette collections 3 times in my teen years. He was an elder, both parents pioneered, as I did 1 month. Michael Jackson was ousted in the 80s, I remember it was spoken of in the National Enquirer magazine. When Armageddon never happened as predicted by Freddy Flinstone Franz, my dad explained that the light is getting brighter for the Governing body. ...and how was your day?

I think it is important that you ask your child what are her thoughts. Since as a JW I was taught that my thoughts did not matter unless they agreed with God's. But in reality "God" in the Jehovah's Witness religion is the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses and obeying anything they say or put in print that is current. As an ignorant JW raised child you won't understand this and will not realize that you are basing your life off the flawed and ever changing doctrines of deceitful men who hide what they are and their long history of misleading and faild teachings. So in a way, we owe it to our offspring to let them know the full truth about Jehovah's Witnesses and not half or more likely a quarter like what the govetning body tries to get away with. But you won't let them so that is good.

Makes sense, what you say. It’s MEN who have made the illustrations, printed the books and magazines, interpreted the Scriptures! Who knows God? Honestly, if there was just ONE Bible in Canon written by a WOMAN, I’d take it more seriously. There are STORIES about clever, leading women, but I mean authored. Even Ruth was written supposedly by a guy. The Apocrypha was taken out by churchMEN...even so, the Bible isn’t completely ruled and overcome with men’s violence. Critical thinking would invite one to look also at the experiences of a person’s life, the loves and betrayals, the cultures and political systems, religious beliefs, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I think to study Scripture is to become limitless and NOT locked into one dogma or doctrinal system. Because for every truth you perceive, there are counter-perceptions which throw you off and make you start all over again. To me, it’s a Living Book. It has wisdom which I can use in business, it has romance, it has celebration, it has death and destruction. I can ask myself: is this book poetic or symbolic? It’s fascinating to me, like I said, if you get out of being cornered into a few doctrines called religious cults or sects. Leave the book open for discovery and exploration. It’s a lifetime book.

I could not finish reading the entire Bible end to end because of long lists of names, rituals, and numbers that I could tell was npt for my benefit but for someone elses. But as a JW the the Governigng body will print information to rationaliize away any and all biblical doubts or questions that will automatically come if you read it without any bias.

As much as this is sweet and funny to hear a kids take on these things, I have to agree that involving a child in religious-related videos, perhaps isn't the right way to go. I think this applies with any religious denomination that's being discussed, not just JW's, for example a Muslim father most likely wouldn't want to conduct a discussion with his child to discuss their beliefs or Muhammed or Allah on air on a public channel, especially if the discussion relates to labelling beliefs as 'baloney.' I get that you have had some bad experiences as you were growing up, and have been left disgruntled, but your daughters are separate people, they have to be left to formulate their own opinions on what they want to follow as regards religion as they grow older, if they choose to do so. No doubt as they go through school they will have some form of religious education anyway, where they will be taught about the beliefs of different religions and stories from the bible as well. If they still decide as teenagers or young adults that being a JW or following any religion isn't for them, fair play to them. At least they will have been left with enough evidence to piece together to form their own balanced view or opinion in these areas.

It hurt me to hear a grandchild say your mom is messed up. Yet she is good enough to babysit maybe? Just don’t bring the children around if you can’t tolerate other’s belief systems. @@christinesotelo7655 Lloyd is not introducing disrespect. Not at all. He is teaching the importance of boundaries. I don't believe that Lloyd has grandma 'babysitting'. And what if he did??? Grandparents need to respect the way their grandbabies are being raised. Hands down, I'd much rather have someone indoctrinate a child with critical thinking skills (if that is what you are calling 'indoctrination') because these are skills that are useful for the rest of their lives. Cult indoctrination is lifelong harm and serves no purpose whatsoever. You simply cannot equate the two.
But there is another side to this. What if he refused to let the grandparents see the girls because they wouldn't respect the boundaries and stop trying to indoctrinate them? Then he would be blamed for keeping the kids from the grandparents because that would be cruel to them to deprive them of visits with the grandchildren. But forcing indoctrination on children is cruel. The obvious solution seems for the grandparents to respect the boundaries and stop covert indoctrination.

You might argue that those are complete autonomous ideas being expressed by a child voluntarily, however it’s a way of making a child believe that she does not need to believe in the JW religion.
Anyway, your child your responsibility but perhaps keeping little kids away from all sorts of adult gerrymandering would serve to their good.
I know you will read this in a negative light but I assure you I really felt unnecessary to involve any child in any sort of discussion of the kind.
